I want to like this game, but this is frustrating

I've been playing for about a week, trying out several different classes with the trial. So far, I enjoy the Mutant Champion the most, but I'm concerned. My Commando leveled obscenely fast compared to my Champion, easily twice as fast. The Biomek and Human characters I've tried have also shown that their zones are much better at dropping items, and have many many more bosses.

This all translates into the mutant experience not being as fun. Instead of looking foward to finding some spectacular weapon I have to search desperately every vendor I find for something that is actually better than the gun I've been using for five levels. I don't have near the amount of bosses to fight, which is pretty fun for me because it's a challenge (I'm not the type who farms bosses, either, I enjoy the challenge of fighting them). Items for missions drop very infrequently compared to the other races (I had to get a radio part off of enemies who spawn only on top of plateus, leading me to ramp up to them over thirty times before I got one). I can't even get any paint for my car, and I haven't upgraded my chasis because I want to retain my fancy purple color.

I haven't hit the Fetid Bayou yet (still using the trial), but I heard it is a death trap. Does this ever get better? The humans were fun, very fast paced. By comparison this is feeling like an unneccessary grind, the content feels lacking, and I don't go hunting randomly because nothing interesting every drops off the enemies. Granted the quests seem more long term and involved, but they don't give experience nearly as quickly as the humans and sometimes dry up for a level or two.

Is this going to be fixed in the patch? I've heard they already altered the item drops for the mutants and that they were once even worse, but it's just becoming boring to play like this. There's almost no mutant players on the highway, and I understand this is a problem across all servers. My trial is almost up and I'm very nervous about actually buying the game if I have to deal with this the entire time.

Well, basically it sounds like you enjoy playing human or mek more, so your best bet is to play them :)

Otherwise wait for the patch is the mantra most people are chanting about mutants. I love mutants, but I admit  there are way too many mission gaps between levels, and as I hear after lever 34 for awhile there are no missions (being addressed in the patch).

I just started a human to see how they play, and I already see it is much more fast paced , which is interesting, but the backstory is much less interesting in my opinion.

I never liked the "storyline" for humans.  I did the trial, loved the mek storyline, it made me feel like the missions were taking me somewhere, like I was doing something that mattered.  The humans seemed to me like just a bunch of missions thrown at you with no overarching story.  After playing my human to lvl 12, I was coasting through the missions, not reading the descriptions just clicking accept, and then looking for blue arrows.

I feel your pain.  I managed to get my Champion to lvl 62 so far.  I found the mission gaps to be annoying, but not enough to cause me to give up.  I am pretty sure I have done every mission possible, and probably only had to grind a total of 5 levels.   There are definite balance issues with the Mutants vs other races, but I can deal with that for now.  I thought about playing a human, but I just can't do it.  I will stick it out with the Mutants and hope for some improvments.
