Sony claiming Ps3 is a "PC Killer"

Seriously?
I was watching G4 this morning and they showed a feed where they (Sony) is claiming the Ps3 to be the PC Killer.
Could this be possible? What kind of technology have they packed into this machine?

I want to get a Wii, but if they are claiming this then I just might save up the money to buy this.

I don't know...Sony would know what they are talking about, a "PC Killer". Will you tell us what they mean by this? Didn't they explain why they said that in some kind of way?

Unless they drop the release price to a 1/3rd or less than current estimate it won't happen. Even then the console market and computer markets are really not closely connected and both will exist until either is overhauled severly.

They also said the NGE would turn SWG into a WOW killer.

I don't know the specifics of the PS3 but I remember some slashdot article on how one of the hardware specs was waaay out of whack with the rest of the system and was going to create a serious bottleneck.

You know they already look enough like jackasses, I just wish Sony would shut their mouths and deal with their problems for a while.

Man I wish Sony would just stop talking for a couple months ... until they release the frickin PS3...

all this smack talk from SONY is starting to get me worried..

Anyways the thing about the PC killer thing.. It's because sony is getting closer to a PC ...
Apparently there is going to be a web browser on the PS3 and what they meant is that people will be able to spend a little bit more time on the PS3 than current systems because now they have access to the internet... from right where they are.

.... but again i wish sony would shut up..

What I think they (actually HE, the same guy who said 600$ was cheap for a console) meant is the PS3 will be able to take the place of your PC.... however, I and many gaming sites don't believe in this, and say this is completly untrue... it was said just to make more publicity.... GU has a REALLY funny comic about this... search for it if you'd like.

Come on guys, I really hope you arent falling for this line and hook propaganda from Sony...again. For $600 it BETTER do everything including whipe my ass, unfortunately it dosent so its not worth $600. This is no different than anyother Sony product; you are paying for the name, not the product.

I think the reason why Sony's getting all this baggage is because of its talk. I mean... goodness, they claim so much but reveal so little... and they're always pushing back release dates. Like really, do they expect to get a lot of users if they keep up this "hard-to-get" game?

In any case, sure Sony may have horrible marketing techniques and whatnot... but the PS3 will still be impressive. But too bad it won't replace the PC. Not yet, at least... The wizards at Sony have spent all their energy into shoving crazy features and functions up the poor console's ass without thinking about the users all that much. They're focusing too much on blowing the PC out of the water without thinking about why they would want to. Money? Bad incentive, especially for such a technological device that may or may not have social consequences.

Social consequences? What the hell?? It's just a video game console. Like really... I hate how the gaming companies are all trying to make it seem like games are an essential part of life, like a computer. Like really, games are games. They really shouldn't have consequences in the real world because it's in the virtual world. But here we have online gamers selling their accounts and online currency for real money. Seriously, what the hell? Games are games! They should stay that way! Weren't they created so we could escape from our real lives for a just a moment? And now we're creating games for us to get back to reality. Why? The more real we make our games, the more problems we're going to have with kids killing their cousins and shit like that.

I saw that feed on G4 also and couldn't believe how stupid that SOE representative was.

SOE doesn't get it as usual.

PC players DON'T like consules. We like sitting close to the screen. We like our mouse. We like our keyboard. We don't see the value in buying a separate platform for gaming when the PC will always be a better format. PC's constantly evolve regardless of the gaming segment and will therefore be faster, have better graphics etc.
