Icarus have suggested that PvP will be kept to certain areas. They have also mentioned Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch scenarios. How big these areas are, we do not know.
Always smart to have a mix of pvp and pve but I am glad that it will be area and not open as it gives people the choice on what they want to do. I do not like games that force pvp or don't allow pvp a middle ground is definatly the way to go IMHO.
Not much information is available regarding PvP. In fact, Icarus have opted to keep the game in the dark with their anti-hype policy, so few specifics are known at all.
We do know PvP will be in the game. It will play a role in the community. However Icarus did state in their FAQ that PvP would be consentual. So I doubt open-PvP will be implemented.
It is possible that it will be area-based PvP; I read a while back that there might be areas rich in resources which players might fight over. Then again, there are also hints of arena/competition-based PvP too such as capture the flag, duelling and other scenarios. Faction based PvP is also likely possibility given the number of factions and the relationships between them.

I just read over their website... not a bad concept and I am very glad more than one develpor is exploring this genre but a couple of things bothered me.
A) they use PHP-BB for their site. To me that says a couple of things. This company either has no idea what they are doing or they wanted a free website solution that any halfbaked person can throw together. Neither of which are good things (PHP-BB also gets hacked on a regular basis so careful about putting your personal info on their website) They are stealing a lot of other's ideas even proper names. IE: Children of the Atom, Cult of Cthulhu and Borgs. I mean come on cant they come up with their own names and ideas...
Fallen Earth appears targetting a wide audience, by the looks of it interstitial and casual gamers aged 18-35; those most likely to be familiar with games such as Fallout rather than Counterstrike. Seems to be alot of story and setting involved, catering more to the immersive and roleplaying gamers. While also presenting hardcore elements such as twitch-action combat and consentual PvP, most lilkely competative.
Open PvP in this respect would be rather counter productive since, most likely, the community would degenerate into a group of hardcore leet freaks on mad killing sprees. Thus killing the game for most "carebears"!

I wouldn't critisize their website too much though because Fallen Earth's website is, no matter how justified, rather uninspiring. Icarus' games looks great though which is what counts.
What about Shiva virus? How often is the Destroyer depicted as an apocalyptic virus? :P
I for one am glad open pvp wont be in FE, firstly, it attracts too many >.>... Secondly, it seems FE is world that many parts of the community will have to work together. OpenPvP cuts on ingame production, imo. I mean, I'm glad there is pvp, but limitations means I can drag many of my less trigger happy friends ingame.
The official site is lacking huh? I remember in a newletter a long time ago they were talking about changing it. What happened?

I respect your opinion on FE's website. I would, however, completely disagree with it. It is an accurate reresentation of their game, it protrays the approiate mood and has a lot of great content regarding the game.
Open pvp makes the kiddies happy. I'd personally like to see pvp for appropriate level ranges. Anarchy online does this rather well When pvp enabled you cant attack anyone that isnt within a specefic level range. No noob ganking is a good thing.
I'm not a carebear, but I'd love to be able to face down a mob without having to watch my back for a ganker. How can it be called pvp when you are already combatting a pve enemy then have to deal with someone that found you in a vulnerable position and attacks you.
There hasnt been alot of information given about how pvp will be implemented, other than to say it will be consensual. Looking forward to hearing more about that.

Agreed! PvP=good Ganking=bad. Well put. Yea for the recod, i prefer PvP when I want to PvP and not when a ganker wants to...
i agree open pvp is a bad thing but i wouldnt mind if there was say certin deralict citys or areas of the world map where open pvp was enabled provided you didnt have to go there for anything to do with missions as this just tends to piss everyone off being camped doing missions .
i mean lets face it at some point when your playing a mmo everyone just wants somewhere to go for a bit of open pvp so having a few area's set to open pvp and everywhere else being pve + optional pvp taged wouldnt be to much of a problem again provided the pvp area wasnt a main questing hub.
Open PvP would be loved by a few, but hated by many. Its result would be less players, so everyone would suffer. I personally like PvP, but if you can't ever get away from it and you just keep getting attacked while you are trying to do something else, it can be extremely annoying. From what I read about the PvP in FE, it sounds like it will be restricted to certain areas, which I think is a great idea. I also liked the suggestions people made about limiting it to certain levels. If they can make the game risky and integrate PvP for every player without making it totally mandatory and dominating the game, I think a very fun balance can be found.
Umm, lol, you guys must not know ganking if you have played Mxo aka The Gaytrix, in Combat revision 1.0, why not quit all the bickering and use thier pvp rule, /pvp when you wanna pvp have a 5-15 time limit on the flag, so when you flag you can't blame the others for your action, as The Fallen Angels say on Vector, Syntax, and Recursion, "Red = Dead, you flag you will get T-Bagged..." so yeah, /pvp simple as that... so when you get ganked... its your fault and you can't go crying to the devs... "NO OFFENCE IF I OFFEND YOU CAREBEARS"

I stand by my remarks made about the other.
They just say "No comments". Guess they are working on it and will change it at the same time as they release the beta. Whenever that is..
