Taken from UO Home page:
Player cheating is a serious problem inside Ultima Online, as it is with all online role-playing games. It hurts the economy, gives players an unfair advantage in PvP, and puts honest players at a disadvantage when it comes to competing for resources, spawns and treasure. It’s no wonder the use of cheat programs is the number one complaint to customer service.
We hope to greatly reduce the use of cheat programs through the use of PunkBuster, the most recognized name in cheat protection. Used in virtually all triple-A shooters, Ultima Online will be one of the first MMOs to use PunkBuster technology.
We are in an internal test phase right now and almost ready to roll out a public beta test. We expect public testing to start in mid-July. So far, we are extremely pleased with the results and expect PunkBuster to work with Ultima Online transparently, unless of course you’re using a banned cheat program.
For more info, check out the FAQ HERE
If we do decide to use PunkBuster service-wide, you’ll need to agree to the PunkBuster Software License Agreement before playing, as well as new Ultima Online Terms of Service. You can read both documents HERE

Great news and I like to see that from EA.
I hope they deliver with the solid cheat protection that Punkbuster helps to deliver. If so, perhaps other mmo companies could take note of that which the Elder King MMO is doing to protect its game and players.
Cheaters suck.

Well if so, good riddance is all I can say for EA and for the remaining UO players. Who really wants to play with speed cheat users, hackers, and dupers anyhow? "Quality over Quanity" is all I can say. And this would definately make Ultima Online a much higher quality gaming experience for those who do play.

so you basically saying "who cares if they cheat as long as they pay"?
Well, I would not be able to disagree more completely. a Cheater is not only bad for himself (as he ruin the game for himself, but that is his problem) BUT is bad for everybody else and the community.
Let's suppose your number is accurate, (i find it exagerate, but I've no numbers of my own ) 20k cheaters. How many non-cheaters people these guy pissed off so much they stopped playing?
It IS a really bad experience when you go against a cheater that basically kills you with unfairness outside the game rules. Many will have experienced it on their skin and be frustrated by it... and what the company does? nothing! they are paying customers aren't they?
If that would be the answer, the other 100k non-cheaters would start to leave in droves.
So what is better? keeping the 20k cheaters that tend to piss off everybody else, or keep the majority, kick the cheaters out, frustration ends and maybe they will start praising the game again to their friends?
I think there are many more gamers that enjoy a fair competition than cheaters. Knowing UO will get punkbusters is an added incentive to try the game again and will just be positive in the long run to EA.
Have a nice day.

I meant it more as in UO is an old game , and is losing players left and right , mostly because of the cheat factor , but for the people who still like this game , will what the current developers call a huge annoucement coming soon ( quoted as being bigger than a Pre AOS shard) bring in enough players to replace the lost cheaters , and enable UO to carry on.Sorry if miss stated this..
Just a question for anyone : How stable is this program and is it pretty secure?
Ha! No more EasyUO scripts. You could get to legendary blacksmith / tailoring in like a day.
Edit: Yup they're freaking out:
