Racist comments and Reporting Suggestions

What i see greatly disturbing in our Gaming world is the ever increasing number of Racist and Religious Harrassment, I suggest that they make a new legal rule for all games that include chat to greatly filter words and to provide an option to report on the spot and quote the harrassment, The problem is since it is so easy to express yourself in chatting now a days it is easier to harrass, and The authorities for the games aren't doing anything, like SRO, halo, COD, (not sure about Wow), and all these other games,
To gain support for ppl who want this to be possible plz post here to make this thread popular so Gaming authorities could at least listen to us.
Thankyou for Everyone's cooperation

Technically there are already filters for certain words. Not to sound picky or anything, but words like "Go" have multiple meanings in different languages. It may mean Go in English, but in Afghan it means shit.

Support in-game isn't the best in most MMOG, and ironically the number one most harrassment packed game also has the worst community support (WoW). Don't expect to be able to report every comment and have someone respond to you in time for them to be disciplined.

it's true that comments have become increasingly hostile and unnecessary, but i don't think chat filtering will stop it. RFO tried implementing a filter system and people actually became more frustrated. it ended up filtering things that really didn't need filtering. like if "shit' was filtered, it would filter the words regardless of space. therefore, things like "go fish it" would be filtered, too. also, people always find a way to go around the filter system. "sh1t" for example went through. and even if they tried to stop that, even more unnecessary restrictions would frustrate users more. so i think we just have to bear with it... it's not something gaming companies can change.

Uh, if it was filtered greatly, what would you be reporting on the spot?

"He said 'I'm going to #^!#&!#! *#@&; %&@*^@%@ your @&;^*@.' and I am deeply offended. Please take action."

There's nothing you can really do about it. Either you limit freedom of speech which is a given right (no, I'm not saying I support hateful comments towards others so don't try to turn this against me in that fashion) or you just have to deal with a few morons who think the internet makes them invincible.

So isn't that what kingame is trying to say? gaming companies should
get their customer support to be a lot more helpful. we shouldn't have
to adapt to gaming companies' policies. the companies should adapt to
their customers. especially with an issue as bad as in-game
harrassment. really... gaming has become a lot more dangerous because it is blending into social problems. i hate it. i wanna escape from my sad teenage world, and other gamers are bringing it with them.

    You can't stop everything.

Just like you can't stop every person from saying a racist comment or any form of harassment.

There will never be a point where customer support will be perfect IMO. If you take WoW for example, with thousands upon thousands of players constantly on their servers, how can there be enough customer support agent to cope? We'll always have a communication barrier there, it'll be down to the individuals playing to deal with most minor problems.

Unfortunately because this isn't an issue with the form of communication it can't be fixed by altering the communication. People will just start using different words or abbreviations and it will end up being an endless struggle to keep up that can never be won. Part of the reason people do things like this is because they feel safe and hidden behind a name tag they can change on the internet.

This isn't a word problem this is a social concious issue which is just a sad statement on societal norms and mores.

you're trying to deal with symptoms rather than sources. The question on my mind is: Why? Why are more and more people just saying outlandishly racist, sexist, demeaning things to random people online? And why does it matter?

To be honest, after hearing someone hang degrading labels on people for so long, you just don't care anymore. To wit:

    Griefer: FAG!!!

    Me: and...

    Griefer: NIGGER!!!

Me:... (sitting at my chair in RL, I roll my eyes)

    Griefer: U SUXORTH3B1G!111

    Me: /ignore Griefer

If you happen to be the griefer in this situation, ask yourself if anyone really cares about anything you say or do. After hearing it for so long, I know I don't.

Exacty what I was thinking myself Jimmy...

Almost every mmo out there has some kind of "ignore" or filter in place to stop any kind of harassment. And if we choose to continue to listen to the "griefer" or argue with him, then we certainly have no place to whine, complain, or point our finger. After all... you read it. If you seriously choose to not filter out such harassment and continue to read it or even add fuel to the griefer's griefing... then you really have no one to blame but yourself.

Like I say... I can't think of one mmo that I have played where there wasn't tools in place to filter a person's speach from your monitor. And if the griefer is following you, mob stealing or what-ever to harass you, then simply log off for 3 minutes, go take a piss and get yourself a nice cold glass of lemonade (or beer) and come back and log back on. 99% chance that he'll be long gone. Griefers don't have a lot of patience. And if you simply ignore them or don't let them bother you... chances are they won't get the attention that they seek and will look for another victim of their attention seeking games.

Best advice I can give for dealing with griefers/harassers. IGNORE THEM. DON'T LET THEM KNOW IT BOTHERS YOU. AT ALL. ---> griefer gone. Also don't let ANYTHING any stranger who doesn't know you from a hole in the ground bother you. TAKE NOTHING SAID PERSONALLY. They just looking to hit a button and get attention. Don't give it to them.

    Simple as that.
