So the GCW bases revamp was in the first versions of the pub plan:

• All new player-placed PvP Galactic Civil War bases
• Brand new heavy weapon emplacements that all players can use to defend the bases • E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster • Mortar Emplacements • Various manned turrets • And more!• Exciting new interior puzzles and obstacles to overcome• All new base destruction dynamic with Officer-specific activity sets
Then it turned into this in the last pub plan:
• Galactic Civil War Base Improvements –
We will be making a pass on the GCW bases out in the world to make them
even more interesting locations for adventuring.
And yesterday Helios just said: Helios_SOE wrote:

We're working on updating them with some content that lets you engage
the other faction for trinkets and shinies and such. We're ramping up
to the large scale battlefields we're doing a couple of chapters from
now.
What's happening with bases then?

Well, I didn't want an answer noone have, just /discuss (aka flame)
What gets me is, they were waiting for content to be reintroduced AFTER BEING BROKEN. I would love to hear from current players and their feelings about this.
P.S. The "trinkets and shinies" statement buried Helios. He's gonna hear about that one for months, much like "starwarsy", "iconic", and "Uncle Owen"...among others.
I especially like the "all-new" wording.
Manned turrets is the only thing that sounds semi-interesting as put here. Barring these problems:
- They kill in 2 shots, which will result in nerf calls
- They don't kill fast enough, and are taken down before making a difference
- They don't to enough damage to be worth bothering with
- They don't have some funky range, which will be possible to overcome with some weird weapon
- They are static. Run at range in and out, dropping specials as needed. Player will never do any damage to attackers
- They are indestructible - then they need to do little damage
Lots of conflicting design problems. Forgive me, for not having much faith in it being done right.
There's another issue, I'll reffer here to UT turrets and vehicles. The problem of range/accuracy that I mentioned before.
Turrets in UT do big damage. Often enough to wipe the team. But they are very useful and not overpowered:
- Devastating attacks take time to activate, and others see indication of their powering up
- They are in many cases placed so they don't have clear LoS, and maps allow attackers to come close
- They have unlimited range, but players use "real" aim. This means, the further two are, the more likely they miss. Unlimited here means as long as practical, but it's not capped at x meters.
- They are strategically placed, so either long-range artillery fire can take them out, or close up zerg. Due to hand made and tweaked maps, they fit well into terrain, and allow for smooth gameplay
While some will claim these are simply whines, all of those factors do make the difference between having yet another static object or having an actual gameplay enhancing element. I cannot recall from top of my head a turret mechanism that would allow for random placement (RTS excluded, even there it's limited due to too many turret zerg tactics).
As always, the devil lies in the details.
Oh, and officer will be required to bring up radial menu, then choose which wire to slice, red or blue. If it's red, the base goes poof, if it's blue, they can try again. And 50% cases it will bug, leaving base indestructible till server reset. It'll also give 15000xp, so people will use it to grind. Then it will be nerfed so it only gives 50xp.
Only the last paragraph is sarcastic (but we've seen all of it before), I'm serious about everything else.
Seems to me that SOE can't make up their mind on what they want to do about the base situation.
In my humble opinon, which I know none of you guys gives a rat @$$ about, They should set up a static system of bases, that can be captured and claimed.
Kinda like the keeps and towers in DAoC. That would probably make it a little interesting.
There was no plan. They keep developing it as the go. This shouldn't suprise anyone.
Between this, Helios' comments recently, the lack of responses about promises form Dev's/Smed, the slow build-up to the Restuss Event & the lack of content until then, there will be another large exodus. I've noticed it's actually already started. Then when Pub 30 hits, folks will come back, play a bit, get mad & leave again... that's IF we make it to 30...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
This time of year has traditionally been busy. I noticed lots of old names showing up again, but they don't really play. There will be increase in activity around Restuss, but it'll be over in a week or two (for most people), and this is how it has been for quite a while now with new content.
This is why it seems likely, that they'll be planning ch. 2 for late september, early october, after drop in subscriptions. This gives them enough push till November release of SWG complete, which will bring a new set of new players, and add a bit of diversity across all spectres of the game.
And then things will work as usual into february, there's little need for content around holiday times, and that is the usual second population surge.
But unless they do add some notable content, preferably expansion pack, by start of next year the population drop will become noticable, especially by new players.
And no, they don't HAVE a plan, they have been in pure panic mode since the sub base crashed after they released NGE, they are throwing anything they can up against the wall hoping it will stick, and are willing to do ANYTHING at all to reverse the decline, except what really WOULD halt the decline (target lock queue based combat, more professions, etc).

If they don't open classic servers before winter, the game will be shut down by February. We won't have 25K subs left by then.
It's funny for me to see this all unfold and become a "in your face now" to the NGE support crowd.
They did not listen when warned, they did not want to think the DEVS would lie or misslead them.
USING DEVSPEAK is what they do best... lol they changed the wording of the plan now too lolol---
I love it, each time they pull this , I just add it to the bucket of facts to throw back at them and the NGE crowd.
This is no different then that "Magic 6 month mark of make or break" --- Ooops...
Now, the PvP bases will not be coming back you can almost bet on that, at least not at all like we once knew them to. Fine, but somthing tells me this is another misshap waiting to blow up...lol

Well now the NGE supporters can enjoy the game without all the soon-to-cancel vets who were waiting for the GCW to come back under revamped playerbases.
Even better news for the NGE fans since they will be able to get their hands on.....
"trinkets and shinies and such!!!!!!"
I might even come back myself

Ok I was exaggerating with the exclamation marks but it must be something pretty damn devastating if they managed to piss off just about everyone left ingame
After lots and lots of posts asking if player bases are being revamped two answers been given:
I only gave a highly compacted and extremely high
level overview of the feature. The bases are being updated with
new structural/building elements and functionality to facilitate
strategic control games. The rewards are just tangible incentives for
maintaining control over the bases. Details will come forth as we get
closer to finalizing them.

So...player bases coming back or not Helios? the answer seems cool but you don't answer the question.
After some more hours he just answers:Player placed GCW bases are not being worked on for Chapter 2.
-The Dread Lord Helios
So people now is starting to ask (and it'll keep asking for some more hours) if player bases are coming in some future. I suspect the answer will be "maybe in the future, not in the near plan though (so guys you can keep paying fees until I deny it completely)"-Lead Designer, SWG

Mis-information FTW isn't it Helios?
Ouch! I know a lot of people on Kettemoor were waiting for the bases to come back. I guess we'll just bide our time and see what happens.

The NGE wont last 3 months now. I predict yet another mass cancelation(The few that are left)

I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
I would estimate about 2/3rds of the people I knew in-game have left it, including of course myself. But about 1/3 are still playing, and as far as I can tell, will continue to play no matter what (often on more than one account) until SOE shuts down the servers. I am not quite sure what they still see in the game, but whatever it is, they aren't going to leave over PVP bases (or lack thereof).
I think at this point, all that's left in the game are the NGE lovers, and those people are not going to leave just over something like this. They might (possibly) leave if NGE were turned into another whole new system, or reverted to CU or pre-CU (since they clearly like how things are currently), but otherwise, they're in it to stay.
Which is up to them... but I would not ever be so blindly loyal to a game, myself.

NGE dev-speak for rewards. Be interesting to see if they retrogress into infant babble next.
