Poll; Who will be the largest killer of video games of all time¿

CymdaiCymdai Member UncommonPosts: 1,043

I just wanted to see what people think here. I can say that I believe that the quality, amount of innovation, and concern for customer satisfaction has decreased dramatically in the last 5 years.

Personally, I hate SOE a great deal, but even as bad as SOE has been, they've never bought out all of their competition simply to ensure that there was not any competition at all. I cite Madden as an example here. Also, in the case of the Sims, I don't like having to buy 7 expansion packs to actually possess any content.

I think EA is slowly killing my favorite industry. Not in the videogames-will-disappear sort of murder, but in the 'why-do-they-insist-on-preventing-advancement-in-new-directions' sort of murder.

Thoughts¿

THIS IS MEANT IN A NEGATIVE MANNER, NOT IN A SUCCESSFUL MANNER

For example, EA killed all competition to Madden by buying all the other companies out and getting a contract with the NFL. It was a cheap tactic to monopolize a genre, and I frown upon EA for fearing some healthy market competition. Thus, EA killed off any possible new football titles for the next several years.

Sorry for not clarifying that earlier.

My thoughts are that EA is an evil evil little company. I mean look at Battlefield 2. A bunch of people payed 50$ for a game that they can't play. They even increased the requirements to this game so people will have to spend a lot more money just to play one game.

Microsoft I don't think is inharently evil. I think Petter Moor is a pompas prick and should be fired. Though I don't like Sony making people spend 600$ on the PS3 with what the removed from it. "removing a second HDMI output, router functionality, two Ethernet
ports, two USB ports and controller rumble feature since the original
    announcement in May 2005."

    Siehst du mich
    Erkennst du mich
    Ganz tief in meinem Herz
ist noch ein Platz f?r dich
    Ich suche dich
    Ich sehne mich
nach dem was ich geliebt hab
    doch ich find es nicht

Personally, I haven't seen Blizzard kill anything. They made Diablo 1 and 2, which I greatly enjoyed, as well as Starcraft and Warcraft, which were also stellar series.

I didn't really care for WoW, but anyone who calls it a bad game is full of it. It's one of the only MMO's I can think of that doesn't have massive amounts of bugs or hacks.

Plus, I don't recall Blizzard buying out other companies, utterly destroying any product, or doing anything particularly negative.

    Correct me if I'm wrong¿

    Microsoft,.

I dont have a xbox,or a 360.but I have played on the 360,COD2 and oblivain, look and run great,.its allso vary easy to connect to the net,and its vary freindly and easy to use.

They have the cash and the smarts,360 is still young but I think it will make a massive impact soon. Its just going to take a good MMO and that system will change things.its got all the flash and dash,it just needs to drop in price a bit and inbrace a great MMO.

So yea,Microsoft will soon be a king that knowone can touch.

I think to be honest the mmorpg market is a relatively new sector. Companies are having to learn to deal with this new genre and problems with it. SoE are learning for example some harsh lessons especially towards changing their game and alienating their main playerbase. The only area I can see is improvement as more and more of these lessons are taken onboard. SoE I know have adapted the way they approach things with their mmorpgs over the years.

I dont think a company that produces video games will bring it down. It will be some jackass parent that goes nuts saying video games cause murders and such. Its gonna happen sometime, whoever it is, I hope they keep their mouth shut!

The industry is getting bigger, better, and broader every year. Don't know what cave of gloom you're living in.

    Not whining, certainly not.

I just think that there's a lot less independent studios pushing out titles these days, as opposed to large corporations.

By no means is the industry going to die, ha, hardly. The poll essentially is asking which of those companies you think will kill the industry the most by killing off titles. Whether this means buyouts/mergers, cancellations of titles, complete and utter failures, or something else, that's what the question is really asking.

If you don't understand what I'm asking, post and I'll explain it as best I can.
