Thinking of startin'

For a while now, I've kept hearing a lot about Galaxies, but I never really got into it. One thing that deterred me was the fact that gamers have to deal with a lot of changes from updates and crap. That, I could deal with... for a while, I guess. But the other thing that deters me is the fact that it's such an old game. Is it too late for someone completely new to start without being flamed for being a noob? I mean, I've played Ultima Online and stuff back in the day, but I'm still kinda nooby at the whole MMO thing.

The name of swg is an old one, but the "game" out right now has only been out since nov 2005. It was changed to cater to new players with an elaborate newbie space station with a tutorial and a long chain quest that will take you 1/3 of the way to lvl 90, so dont let joining late deter you, because it was specifiacally changed to attract new players.

What should deter you is the actual state of the game. Im sure if you've read any posts here, you'll know there is alot of negativity towards it, the overall complaint is that it has so many problems, it plays more like a game in beta instead of one that you pay for. I think their may be a free trial out right now, not sure, but i'd suggest trying to do that before you actually subscribe. They are still in the process of tweaking the core combat system and finishing the professions, so imo its not worth actually paying for, since you are basically paying them to test it.

I recomend trying Wow or Guild Wars, they are very stable and polished mmo's with thriving communities. They are easy to get into, the only thing i hate about them are the fantasy stetting. Sadly i cant recomend any sci-fi ones atm.

    For the Horde!

Well, on the bright side you wouldn't be the Noob for long, since everyone is every few months.

I normaly tell folks to try it if they're interested, but I can anymore. Stay away for now. The game seems to be changing every few months, and no one knows where it's going, even the Dev's. There was actually a huge blow up about possible changes even today.

Give it some time, and check in again.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Hoooly crapsody, I didn't think the changes would be THAT problematic.

Wow... Well in that case I suppose I should look into other MMOs. Thanks for the heads up!

It seems like SWG is SOE's test subject and is always subjected to hurrendous studies and actrocious tests.

Wait for betatesting to finish before you think about it.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled :( - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Correct. Their new MMO will have a system like NGE for sure. Because Smedly said that long ago, new generation likes FPS more so they will make FPS/MMO in future.

SWG is still i great game imo.    Its fun, and nice to play when your bored.   But, it was nothing like it was long ago.

Definately worth a shot just to say you have played it and you understand what we are all talking about
