Who would be interested in a Star Trek based MMORPG...where you could be any number of classes and you would specialize in various skills and there could even be a ship based system where you could be assigned to a ship and you would have tasks and help other players in the quest of that ship on a day to day basis.
This all started due to the Farscape and the Stargate SG1 mmo discussions.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
Voted No, but it'd mostly depend on how it was done, I'm not a scifi fan so it would have to be one heck of a well done game to hold my attention. So far no scifi game has come close.

Yea I hear you I thought B5 was well done and I sure as heck enjoyed it.
Now that I have a few minutes to think about it, (been on the road almost all day) I think a ST MMOG would have a lot of trouble. As much as they talk about being explorers and what not, (Starfleet) they're still a military outfit. They're assigned patrols and missions and such constantly. It isn't like a job terminal in SWG or a mission terminal in E&B where you can choose your mission IF you're in the mood to do missions. You're ordered to do so and you do it, because that's how the military works. A ST MMOG would have to have, at best, maybe privateer-like vessels that have a general mission or missions but no real framework for getting the job done. (I probably should elaborate on this more, but I'll trust that you can understand what I'm getting at with this)
Having said that, who's going to want to play a ST MMOG if you can't command the big (Starfleet) stuff? I'm not saying it can't be done, I think it would probably be too awkwardly done. I think you'd probably get much the same thing you get with SWG.. a lot of disillusioned (at best) players.

How about a Star Trek MMORTS, kind of like DarkSpace?
For those of you not aware of DarkSpace, the gameplay is basically like this: players work together to defeat the other 2 teams by taking over important planets in the zone/sector. Each person gets to choose from a pool of ships depending on his or her rank, medals awarded and on the resources available to their team. To get resources there are construction ships available to build various installations on planets. Installations like factories, mines, barracks, shield generators, planetary guns, etc. Although it's obviously a PvP game, players gain rank by either killing things or building things.
So how about a Star Trek game with a similar ruleset?
interesting position to take as to a privateer type game...but that was not what I had in mind. I was thinking you start out at StarFleet Academy and you go through various lessons and then you could pick a profession and get further advancement then after graduation you would be assigned to a ship or a starbase then your career would advance from there. you would take classes "quests" on various other skills like command and you would get advancement in rank and in profession skill.
Also there is a whole storyline that can be played out and players can be on either side. this would be a true RPG. although this is just some thought I have serious doubts that the ST people have any interest in the mmorpg market, after all have you seen Enterprise? the show is neet but did not follow any of the time lines that were already in place. true trekers enjoy the new series but are blown away when they pull out a "Micro Communicator" and the Kirk bunch had those huge wallet sized ones and this show was supposed to happen prior to kirk????? things like that hehehe.
