Hi im consdering starting this game, but just got a few questions so i'll get straight to the point.
1. What is the size of battles or skirmishes in the game, How many people are usually involved on each side in a local battle?
2. If anyone ever played Operation Flashpoint, which imo was a very good combat simulator, how does this game compared to that?
3. Are there any AI? if so what are their roles?
4. Whats with all the intermission and campaign? how long do they last?
5. Whats the time frame of this game? as in when could i logon to find players, and how many at each of the follow times, GMT. 10AM, 2PM, 6PM, 8PM?
6. How does the experience system works? how does it affect ur combat ability.
7. Veichles, what are the availablity of tanks or planes in the game?
Thanks in advance for your time, and I will be looking forward to see you in game.

2. i never played it, but i cna guarentee this is the greatest combat simulater ever. You cant take a machine gun and take out a tank, unless you aim through the hole very very well, but its doubtful. you can take out weapons, individual tracks. smaller shells wont penetrate heavy armor such as in the tiger, you cant take a small ATG(anti tank gun) and take one out. Ballistics is hardcore, flight is amazing! you can knock off weapons, engines, wings, tails and all that. shoot engines, or gas tanks (in tanks also with an ATR (anti tank rifle) and blow it up like that) just all around amazing.
3.AI is never more than a slight annoyance, rarely. inside a town are guard towers, MG nests and AAA cannons, horrible aim, and easy to remove.
4.never been in one, but heard theyre awsome, campaign last anywhere from like 30, to ther ecod 84 i believe
5.constant action, but im not sure of each time zone
6.experience works simlply. kill a guy, get experience. return to base with the kill get 100% die afterwards get 50% go MIA 60 and rescued 75%. capturing bases and depots also get you points, more than a kill
7. great! its HUGE. ofcourse you start as a mere rifle man and the lightest tanks/guns and decent planes. But as you prgoress (rank three gets you SMG, sapper, machine gun, grenade launcer, and ATR, rank 5 gets you paratrooper. not sure of the AF, Navy, and and such ranks. its large though as RDP (production) progresss. The map starts with limited tech, then the campaign goes and goes and more comes available (heaviers armor, better ATGS, more planes and whatnot)

1. I have been in battles with 300 or more on each side in the larger cities, but that was just one of the fights going on across the entire frontline. Example: The normal battle for Antwerp, while the french are being attacked in several cities in the south.
2. Never played operation Flash Point. WWII is an MMO like you will never experience again, some people take to it and others dont, it really depends on what your looking for deep in the core of what makes a game, GREAT.
3. Yes, like the poster said above, they are limited to sparse AA (anti-aircraft), MG towers, and ATG (anti-tank guns).
4. Intermissions come when one side has won the map, they last about a week, during which the Devs sometimes put up epic historical battle simulations, while the map is reset, etc..
5. This game is pretty active at all times, they did also just do a european release. I normally am on during EST normal play times.
6. The experience system work with successful RTB's (returns to base) with the unit/equipment that you used to help do a defense mission or attack mission, you gain a certain amounts of points toward your next rank. Each promotion gives you access to more and more equipment types, your 'combat ability' is all you.
7. The availbility works on a R & D system that basically has both sides researching the next type of tank and plane or whatever the GHC/AHC decides what they want in the field for thier troops. When a campain starts each side begins with the most basic equipment available to those forces at that time period, advancement of those pieces of equipment is dependant on the condition of your production factories, which can be stratigically bombed by each side.
Hope that helps.
Of course the original OF plays in an entirely different setting. Also, there are no NPC defenses in WWIIOL, besides static anti-aircraft or anti-tank positions near the towns and cities. But every moving enemy is a real player, unlike OF.
What WWIIOL DOES have in common with OF, is the 'feel' of the world. I remember walkiing through forests, climbing hills, taking a ride on trucks and tanks in OF. This is the same in WWIIOL. However, the map in WWIIOL is so big that this might all take some time. On the other hand this has the advantage that large armour columns can make huge flanking manoeuvres around enemy positions.
There are NO scripted missions in WWIIOL, unlike OF.
As far as size of battles, mostly big battles around cities with attack/defence objectives on them. Personally I like firebase attack/defence which sometimes involves some (long) waiting in order to place the perfect ambush.
Battles are combined arms, so as an infantryman you'll often see airwar being waged above your head. Of course airsupport can be called in etc but as a new player this will all be above your head.
Do not expect instant action like COD or BF 1942 but rather count on operations that require the setting up of armour-support, mobile spawnpoints, reinforcements etc...
Thanks for all those who replied, I have decied to give the trial a go, I will see some of you in game
