What Class to Play?

aligjunioraligjunior Member UncommonPosts: 40
As i am a begginer to the game i dont have a clue what the differeneces between the characters are, and was wondering what would be a good class to start the game with, nice to grind with, ok in PvP, wanted in grps. I dont want to have to level a char and then realise i dislike it and start the grind again :P

classes are based on play styles, there is no real "right or wrong" Especially since you didn't give any info at all about what you like and dont like for a playstyle.

Take a look at this website, it has all the class / skill  / race info you could ever need.

the type of class i like to play would be either a melle damage dealer or a rnaged damage dealer, no tank or healer :P

There are a lot of choices ..

What type of spells you specifically like?

Also forgot to mention i dont wanna be magic user, MP ftl :P and also humans or elves interest me the most. This kinda narrows it down a bit :)

Actually I was wondering the same thing, but don't feel like making another thread, so I'll post here.

Right. So I was thinking about a melee oriented class that can do some sort of offensive casting.
The orc mystic description says they mainly go melee when attacking, but being a mystic class, they can do some sort of magic. Now, I've found the descriptions usually to be more or less misleading, so I was wondering if it's a good choice for something I'm looking for or should I pick something else.

Plus they look cool as hell, hehe.

Yes, Orc Mystics do very well. Especially at higher lvl.

Silver Ranger, Ranged archer class has the highest run speed and evasion off the 3 Archers, can solo and get groups

Hawk Eye another archer class can´t solo well without buffs but also benfits the most out off buffs, so tend to get groups esay

Phantom Ranger Hits the hardest but since Hawk Eye has more Con to mess around with they often end up hittings hardest. No idea if they can solo, but groups want em espacilly for Hex (reduces target Defence bye 25%) but a Recharager is needed to keep up MP then

Every normal shot takes MP = Mana, so you rearly if ever use Archer Skills inside Pve, they stricly for Pvp, also they SS = Soult Shots useage is costly

Warcryera buffing meele class can Solo well with Heavry Armor, and Drain Health they also get groups good , but Robes are best then

Overlord, can only Buff Clan members and Alliance members so they have a hard time to get groups, but they have many Aoe Skills for Pvp

Glaiator sry bad spelling :)! Super Gimp class but looks cool, can´t solo and not everyone wants em in groups

Thanks for the info so far, but now I'm more concerned about the choice since, as I understood it, you won't get any new character bonuses after reaching lvl 6 with one of them. Now, I thought about trying out the classes a bit and see how I like the feel of it, but should I not do that since I'll lose the bonuses? I don't really know what you get, but is it worth sweating about?

The new character bonuses could help a lot, especially economically since it allows the character to upgrade their weapon. However, youi could just as easily go to another character and then upgrade your weapon with the "new toon" character.

Other than that you get buffs which can help quite a bit to get to lvl 20 so that you can get out of new player land.

However, when I joined the game there weren't any new player bonuses and I did fine.

You can try different characters on different servers and you'll keep the noob buffs for each server. The character you like is the server you stay on.

Or you can just find a server you like, try the characters on the other servers and when you are satisfied then star for real on your preferred server.

Your class won't matter at all,be it PVP or PVE.PVP is done gangbang style or high levels picking on noobs,so what class you are won't matter one bit.For PVE the mage can do damage faster and further away but take damage faster, either way it's all evened out.The dwarfs craft ,that might  be your only decision.

PVP in this game is done horribly,it's all about levelling as fast as you can as high as you can so that you can PVP who ever you like. That's a pretty sad formulae for skill/success and is a HUGE detriment on new players wanting to join. You might see some talk of alot of new players joining[lol]it's more like a pile of bot farmers with "fsehgfsijehgsnbu" for a name.Secondly there are alot of high level players using more than one account so they can have bot buffers/healers follow them around.

Since its all about ganking i guess you might want a fighter since you can take more damage and might have a chance to get away[not likely]when a level 60 hits a level 20 you won't be getting away.

As a noob you might consider as so many have to join a private server that has no PK'ing. It only makes sense since there is nothing a noob can do in a game fulla level60+.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wow, I haven't read such a retarded post in a while.

Class makes a huge difference in pvp. A dwarf stands no chance against a mage or archer. if you want to pvp I would suggest a ranged class. I don't think wizardry even plays this game.

PvP isn't done the best but this game probably has the best pvp system. Yes levels and gear make a huge difference but it isn't as bad as wow. A good player with avergae gear will beat a bad player with excellent gear and higher levels if they're the same class.

Ganking is a part of pvp but you're only avaialble to be ganked if you are war tagged. Otherwise, people have to go red on you. No level 60 character is going to waste a red on a level 30 unless they are really stupid or quitting the game and don't care if they drop gear. It doesn't take a long time to hit level 60 either. If you play hardcore you can easily hit level 40 in your first month.

You're forgetting one tiny detail there: you need gear. With hardly any new players around these days, it's gonna be hard to make money for your gear. And without decent gear, you level a lot slower.

Where the heck did you pick that up??? You cant run around ganking without worrying about the consequences. Yes class matters. Yikes, what game are you referring to???
Here are the PvP rules, as you can see from the chart, its not a good idea to run around and kill people randomly

Players using 2 accounts is nothing new to MMO's bro. (hell people where doing it in UO when it released lol) Yes, the level formula mixed with PvP isn't the best as it really limits the impact of the players actual skill but thats the nature of the MMO beast. Until some Dev team grows a set and tries something new, this what we have.

Again, what game are you referring to? L2 is NOT about ganking. Do you play L2????
As a noob you might consider as so many have to join a private server that has no PK'ing. It only makes sense since there is nothing a noob can do in a game fulla level60+.
Hmmm........ sounds like you just have an axe to grind with L2. Oh well.......there are many other games out there you might like.
Since you appare not to like PvP and do not really understand what L2 is I requemend a few very good PvE games.
*FFXI is excellent if you like group based PvE challenge with a very nice mission system. Its a bit slow paced and totally group dependent but it is a very full, rich in story, game.
*Ryzom has a new unlimited free trial, I really like the strange style of that game. Its completely different from everything else. It has PvP but it is totally volluntary. The community is very good also. Not as serious and down to business as L2's.
*City of Heros/villians is a lot of fun also. You gotta like superheros though. The mission system here is very good also. Has lots of criss crossing story arcs. Also a very good grouping system.
*WoW if you like fantasy, most of the other fantasy based games have to many issues, are incomplete or just dull clones.
Games to avoid completely (IMHO) SWG, EQII, D&DO, RFO
Hope that helps you out, good luck.

It is so easy to get all your NG gear before you hit 20. With the upgrade system there is no reason why you can't be in full NG by level 20. Most people gear out NG before then. Factor in the manor system and you can afford top D at 25.

I agree with this statement. I had no idea what I was doing when I started playing L2 but I was able to get the "wooden" armor very early on with my first character (which provided some very good bonuses for a low level ) I also did that quest for the dwarf hammer which was great starting out. Basically its free gear.

Believe it or not I used that damn dwarf hammer to level 22 (Don't ask me how, I was to much of a noob to know any better) Anyway, by level 23 or 24 I had one of those big mace looking weapons (low D grade) and a full suit of Mithril (for the bonuses) I don't know about "top" D at 25. You would really really need to know what you are doing to get a full suit of brig (helm alone goes for about 1 mi, the rest of the suit is about half a mill) and a sword of revolution or equivilent. (about 1.6 mil) Thats a lot of money for a noob to come up with out the gate. Its doable if you are helped and given guidance at every turn.

I didn't get my full set of top D until I was 30 and I got the Sword from a guildie at a bargin price that I paid off in installments.

A few things I would point out to new people - Dont worry about having "top" D grade armor. It isn't that important. Always worry about weapon before armor.

Do the 7 signs quest and when you have enough seals trade it for ancient adena, then TRADE in your old weapon for an upgrade with the blacksmith of mammon. That cost you ZERO ADENA. Its basically a FREEE weapon upgrade.

Watch how much you "port" around. Its expensive and adds up fast.

You really really have to not know what you are doing or pay ZERO attention to the game to not be able to get good gear at lower levels.

Funny. For a game filled with only 60+'s, it's odd how many lowbie players there seem to be, even in the starter area that I can team up with and surprisingly someone invited me to a guild where there are some lower level alts and some new players around my own level.

Plus it seems that people on the server keep coming from out of nowhere to give you a cadillac even if you just say hi to them, so I guess that solves the money problem. Kinda ruins the fun of getting your own stuff by actually having to work for it.

Then the grinding. Grinding doesn't matter. I'm having a good time while at it. It's odd how people ONLY see the grinding and nothing else. WoW is just grinding with sugar on top, yet people like it. Thanks for the help getting into the game. Decided to go with a warrior. Guess I'll aim for a warlord/dreadnaught for that aoe in pvp battles.

Newbie buffs are nice, but it really isnt hard to level a character to 25.  It can be done in a couple of days.

Just try them all out. Well not all. Just a selected few then find out the one you love the most, this way you wont wonder throughout the game whether you should change your class. But usually you'll find yourself in Melee class.
