DDO now on sale for $29.99

Well that says it all. This game has pretty much died a horrible emasculated death. To bad though, I actually enjoyed the game but now I can't see continuing a subscribtion when the sale price tells me its over. By the way I was at the store that had it and it was on sale for $49.99 yesterday and now in this morning's paper its $29.99.

Farewell DDO and have a safe journey into the afterlife.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Hmnm I play the free trials a lot and enjoy the game.  But ummm if you already subscribed to the game and, admittedly, enjoy it... why would you stop playing just because the box price went down?  That's just silly.  If you enjoy the game then play it, at least till something you enjoy more is out :)   Actually now that it's 29.99 (if it's that price here anyway) I may run out and buy it so I can actually get a character past 6th level :).  $29.99 for a game I'll probably play for a month isn't bad.  I payed more for KOTORII and it only lasted 2 weeks :).

LOL... if you enjoy it, play it.  Who cares what the box price is.  If it's cancelled?  What have you lost?  A few pixels?  Who cares...

I've been in 2 games that were cancelled:  MPBT3025 which got cancelled during final open beta and E&B.... I don't feel like I lost anything really... sure I miss the games.... but they were worth playing right up till the end.

amazon.com is selling the retail box for $40.  they say its the 378th best selling video game today. out of all of the games amazon.com sells on their website, its 378th best selling, thats pretty good.  it seems to me alot of people are still buying dungeons and dragon online.

another thing, box sales are really nothing compared to online subscription fees.  turbine want people to start paying $15 a month.  thats where the real money come from in mmos.  so they will lower the price of the box to attract people to come online.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Problem is one free month (two months tops) is enough to finish the game.

My city has two Walmarts and one Target. At various times in the past month I've visited all three stores. DDO wasn't for sale in any of them.

All three stores had copies of Guild Wars and WoW.

I agree with you.  This is biggest problem with DDO.  It does not have enough content.  You end up doing the same quests 4 or 5 times.  when you get to lvl 10 you still end up doing the same quests over and over again.  turbine is going to have to start adding in more content every month.  otherwise if they keep adding in modules every three months, people would have already done the same quest 20 times by the time the next module comes out.

Yeah.  For the game to drop in price this soon is not a good sign.  I hope the dev's get their act in gear and it is not too late for them to fix the game.

That was my biggest problem with DDO, I hate the grind, but doing the same quest over and over is the ultimate grind IMHO, and to me, that sucks lemur ass.

It's weird... I never know what people talking about when they say you have to replay quests over and over. The only quest I ever had to replay was Waterworks, and that's just because people never stop playing that one... I didn't play too far on my trial. Does it get worse later?

It's just a matter of math, since XP is so in a lot of ways straight forward in D&D. The XP you get from doing all the quests with a group of four at a certain level should get you to the next level and next set of quests and the cycle should repeat, unnoticed.

I have to assume this is the way they have it set up, otherwise Turbine's a little lost. So it's probably just the circumstances that make it seem to repetative. People see that one quest offers more XP than others, and ignore the perfectly good others.

Maybe I'll start another trial and do the math...

    Pretty much simple as this:
There are a lot of quests but many are just not worth doing.  They either offer crappy rewards or crappy xp and, in most cases, both.  There are a few specific quests, however, that offer both good rewards and good XP and aren't really much harder than the ones that "suck".  Thus people gravitate towards them.   Just a few off the top of my head are:

    1) Waterworks.... good reward if you do both chapters, great xp especially if you go back and do it on hard and elite (getting more popular lately)
    2) STK
    3) Tanglewood
    4) Deliara (The undead one)

People do those ALL the time.  There are other quests to do that are ok but those are the 4 I've done seemingly endlessly.  Also since those 4 all need a rogue anyone who plays a rogue gets utterly sick of them eventually.  I've done Waterworks more times than I can count just to help groups who needed a rogue, and Tanglewood I get invites for every single night.

And I'm just doing free trials... I haven't even gotten to the upper level content yet.  But typically those are the only 4 quests I see multiple groups doing at any given time.

I also think the game desperately needs a server merge.  Other than peak time the servers are *dead*.
