EA is not the greatest company in the would I would agree.
But when everyone is making comments about EA owning Mythic 99% of you don't no anything about EA and what would happen now since they've over takin Mythic.
You no nothing about what is going to happen and all you want to do is complain about it.

i dont see what the big deal is, from what i hear... nothing is changing but the business card.
and ive actually looked into this alot seeing as DAoC happens to be my fav mmo and mythic my fav company.
they just went with EA for funding purposes i suppose, so all in all we could probably expect alot more out of mythics upcoming titles.
We can only go by history and take a guess at what will happen, but the history is pretty dang clear. Every company EA has aquired eventually gets put on new projects and the original license named games goes under EA control. Next is the release of 2-5 games of poor to sub poor quality effectively killing off the series.

Wing Commander, Skyfox, Ultima offline games
Well I guess that isn't completely accurate. After the release of SimCopter and other EA dev lead Maxis games using the Sim name bombed worse than Ishtar they released their bindings on Maxis...which is the first smart move they ever did after buying out a company. Of course it is rather hard to kill off all the consumer support for the Sim series, so creating multiple bombs in a row is a rather impressive feat.
Sure Mythic might survive unrazed, but that is not a bet I would place, a long shot is one thing but that is asking for intervention from some sort of diety.
Yet these game that you are metioning I bet you didn't care less about them in the first place.

History is a powerful tool!
And EA history in the mmorpg is very poor. Can't even think of any other company that made so many blunders in mmorpg with so many games.

A few months after launch, "Westwood studios is being absorbed by EA and the headquarters are being moved. Some jobs are being cut." The Westwood logo was removed from the game... so was the soul.
Then there were less updates... less content...
Now E&B is dead. After not even 2 years of life.
I pray they learned from their mistake. Corporations rarely do.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.

Now playing Vanguard, but drooling for WAR
I suppose the way I see it is that WAR has two outcomes now come release time (I'm assuming EA is into WAR because they see it selling at least at EQ levels, if not WoW):
1) WAR doesn't sell as many copies as EA and Mythic expected. EA pulls the plug because they don't want to throw good money after bad. WAR dies.
2) WAR meets or exceeds their planned subscriber numbers. EA uses their weight to ensure that Mythic releases expansion packs (probably poorly designed ones) every 9 to 12 months to milk whatever they can out of the franchise (ala Sims, every sports franchise, Medal of Honor and just about every other EA game out there) while reducing costs by keeping patches and free updates to a minimum. WAR becomes less fun and more expensive and dies a slow, painful death while everyone clamors about WoW2 or EQ3 being the WAR killer.
Mind you, this is probably more depressing than reality, but if there's one thing I know about business, it's that big game companies will hold onto a successful game with a death grip until they've dragged it's value to the grave. I'm not worried about what EA will do pre-release. It's what happens post-release that dampens my enthusiam for WAR.
As long as WAR meets the subscription numbers to make a profit it should have a healthy future.
Games Workshop arent going to let them butcher their intellectual property. I mean look at their track record - they closed down the previous online war game that was in development after spending huge $ on it.
The market is a lot bigger now than it was 10 years ago so it should be easier for a well designed game to get the numbers to cover costs.
If a mmorpg doesnt cover costs then any company in its right mind would cancel it - just like any other business losing money will close.
WAR is getting great reviews - EA is putting extra funding into development so it can be even better, and they have the budget to market it, publish it etc.
So E.A send me an email and I will tell you where to send my cheque
