Hey everyone.
I'm an old CS player, that turned to wow...now i've got 2 l60's and im bored really. I wanna start a new mmorpg, but not one which is going to die soon or that is overpopulated.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions to decent mmorpgs?
I'm into fantasy, and not really space (so not eve online :P).
thanks guys

Stay away from Dark and Light.
There's a 14-day trial available, at peak times theres around 25K people logged into a single universe and it's hardcore open PVP. Kinda like the pre-gimped UO. All player driven as well.
Now on topic, I'd check out some games in development, plenty of those and lots of fantasy amongst them (e.p. LOTR Online, Hero's Journey, The Chronicle, The Chronicles of Spellborn, Vanguard: SoH, WAR, etc etc)
I decide who lives or who dies!
you know, i was looking at Vanguard: SoH a few months back, when it was on the 'hype metre'...but recently it just slumped right down. Any ideas why? is it going to be as sucessful as people said back then?
As for lotr and warhammer, i wanna stay just away from anything like that. if its been a film, or board game, let it stay there imo.
Never heard of The Chronicle, so I'll check it out.
Tabula Rasa was another one i was looking at, but apparrently no pvp..so thats a bit rubbish.
There was one about pirates too, but heard that was Steam..and seeing what they did to CS, i dont wanna touch staem again.
Perhaps im being too fussy...but i like how WoW was a world, without baggage. I guess im looking for something like that....but without Blizzard tampering and messing it up

D'oh I totally missed that somehow. My bad.
dont worry :P
I've been looking at 'lineage2'..but not too sure. Apparrently its a bit shallow :S
awww...why is it so hard?!
then go on to the list of free games on this site, and then if you still didn t find anything , uh.. maybe play an SoE game ::cough:: or not. lol
They announced that they changed publishers from Microsoft to SOE. Even though a publisher has nothing to do with development of the game this hurt the ratings a lot since a lot of SoH hype came from the fact it was set to be very much like a graphically updated version the original Everquest without being associated with SOE.
As for a game to try I would suggest EQ2 after a mediocre launch it has quietly become one of the best MMOs out there. It does have a 7 day trial, but you are limited to the noob island which is to shallow to do a good job of showing you the game. It isn’t that the game is different then the trial, it’s that the island focuses on teaching you the basic mechanics of the game rather then the game itself. SOE should really do a true 7 or 14 day trial IMO.
Warhammer isn’t exactly a board game, it’s acombat with miniatures with maybe a little role play mixed in. This makes it a nearly ideal setting for the type of Realm vs Realm organized PvP that fans of DAoC like so much.
This is why it go so much initial hype, it was like a light bulb going off. Mythic doing a Warhammer game, OMG what a perfect fit! Anybody else but Mythic, or any other world but Warhammer and the hype wouldn’t have been nearly as great. If you are not so much into that style of PvP then it’s not a great fit, if you do like it get in fast and enjoy it before EA screws it up.
I wouldn't say Lineage 2 is shallow at all. As a matter of fact, it is probably one of the more complex games out there. People just don't understand it.
Lineage 2 is not about cool quests and decorating your house. It is about player interaction. That's it. There is nothing more complex than player interaction. It is about drama (which is kind of lame but it's there) politics, scammers, Good Players, bad players, Pk'ers (though that has gone down quite a bit as the game has gotten older. No fun to go to a new player area and find 5 new players) a hard economy.
Lineage 2 is a hard game and not for everyone. But if you enjoy clan vs clan/Alliance vs Alliance Warfare, having to watch your back and a hard leveling system then the game might be for you.
If you are looking for a game where there are all sorts of fun quests, where you can put in an hour or so per day and get something out of it, well, Lineage 2 is not for you.

Not sure what sort of things you want in a fantasy game, but I have a few ideas.
EQ2- A lot like WoW, but with a more mature community, better and different graphics, and a lot more to choose from when concerning character classes and races. PvP I heard was junk. Never made it far enough to know. The crafting system is very complex. A lot of loot you get is bind on equip and you can't see certain things, such as your belt. The game is a system hog, so be sure you have a top of the line computer to play it even around the average settings. If you have that sort of computer, then I'd give it a shot. If not, then you will get aggravated with the game after the newness wears off.
DAoC- Realm vrs Realm game. Everything revolves around fighting for your realm. This is a group PvP game, although some try to solo. The animations are not as fluid and polished as WoW, but the graphics have a realistic feel and are nice. They have mounts and even epic mounts that are nice looking and take some time to get. It takes about 2 weeks for a hardcore gamer to level to 50. But you can participate in PvP from lvl 1-50 so it's not bad not being 50. There are a decent amount of raids with good loot, but the game doesn't revolve around it. Player spellcrafted gear is among the best gear in the game. The community is mature for the most part, but certain realms house the kiddies. The 14 day free trial doesn't include the latest 2 expansions which is where most of the population is, so I wouldn't bother with it. It doesn't include the upgraded graphics either, which offers an enormous change in looks. I'd just suggest that you buy the Epic Edition, which includes all the expansions, plus a free month of play for only $29.
Lineage 2- This game is for the Hardcore gamers only. It will take you over a year to max out your character. You can spend literally weeks camping the same mobs for xp, which gets very boring. There is Open PvP and Large scale PvP raids. Great artwork, the best I've seen in a game, decent graphics and sound. Lack of character individualism. Only 4-5 choices for your face and hair. The custimization stops there. Everyone wears the same armor at the same levels. But the armor looks real nice and you work your ass off for it, so you don't care. TONS of BOTS and FARMERS. I can't stress that enough. The community is HORRIBLE too. It's your call.

if you need fantasy, and are into crafting. wurmonline.com though it does have a small player base it deffinatly has a great community and won't die out.
i'm thinking if i want to play or not myself. though guildwars will prob end up winning.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
