Mark Jacobs of Mythic entertainment speaks up on in the Camelot Herald, the news source for all things Dark Age of Camelot, about the EA acquisition. Mark assures DAoC players that their game will continue, despite rumors to the contrary:
Folks, It has been an exciting time at Mythic in the last few weeks, to say the least. But as you know saying the least is not my style, so I will say a little more: 1) It is business as usual here at Mythic. I have already commented on WAR, but let me say officially that there are no plans, implied plans or even, maybe if plans for DAoC going away. I cant say much more than what has already been said (were announcing our expansion pack plans next month, the Roundtable is going on as scheduled), because I am still talking with EA about the business details and our future plans for Camelot. 2) The deal with EA was one that was carefully considered, and one that I am very proud of being able to present to our company. Ive been around a long time and seen a lot of things in this industry, and I am confident that this deal was the right thing for Mythic, the employees, our investors and most importantly our Camelot players. As I have said many times in the last week, all the key guys Im talking with at EA are long-time players (and fans) of DAOC! 3) Did I say our players? You bet. Mythic makes great games, but without great people to play them we would be just another game company or as I said many years ago, I'd be wearing a paper hat, name-tag and asking people "Would you like fries with that?" There isnt anything else that can be said right now, unfortunately. I have always prided myself on being open with the community, so you can believe that as soon as there is more to know, you will know it. Right now what we know is that the future is bright. Thank you all for being part of our past, and our future. |

No reason or apology about the fact that the companies official source gets a statement from him a week after a fan site.
If this is how much he values his players, perhaps the Mythic Devs need to be looking for new jobs before the end of the week
Typical Management BS.
Been There, Done That, Heard It All Before.
EA is what it is. And Mythic is no longer what it was.
Lowlife Sell-Outs after the Quick Retirement Bucks.
To bad.
Shovel More, Mark Jacobs. Maybe the Noobs will believe you; I know better.
I don't usually comment on topics such as this as the normal cycle of business is to eat or be eaten, but I just cannot say enough bad things about EA. It's a greedy company that cares little about the people who do purchase it's game. EA to me is the definition of a corporation.
Personally I do not buy EA games and will not buy EA games just because EA is the type of company that will start a project, get a fan base interested in it, release the game, and as soon as it is no longer a cash cow drop it like it's infected with some super death disease.
It's a personal choice I made and even though I'm in no way affecting the company and it's profits my hope is that over time they will screw enough people who will in turn do what I am doing and they will simply go away.
With all the new mmorpg games on the horizon it stands to reason that DAoC will take more subscriber hits and as soon as EA deems there is not enough money flowing in the game will no longer exist. This is not fiction - it's happened before.
Hope you enjoy you new found fortune Mr. Jacobs. You just screwed the very people who got you to where you are today.
Given EA’s history with MMORPG the outlook does not look very promising for DAoC or WAR.
Mark Jacobs probably attended the Business Seminar that had John Smedley as their speaker.
Well considering his last press release here was him stating there was no plans with EA at this time...

"What happened to you, Star Wars Galaxies? You used to look like Leia. Not quite gold bikini Leia (more like bad-British-accent-and-cinnamon-bun-hair Leia), but still Leia nonetheless. Now you look like Chewbacca." - Computer Gaming World
A sellout that is all he comes across to me.
When he said originally there was no plan to join/merge with EA I was glad. EA has a terrible track record when dealing with smaller companies (origin, westwood) and I thought that Mark showed that Mythic had more integrity to fall for the all mighty dollar sign.
Looks like he been feeding us Grade A 100% American BS the whole time. It's too bad, DAoC is a great game and I have a lot of fond memories playing it. I am absolutely certain that EA will either (1) kill it or (2) change it to unplayable.
Looks like no Warhammer for me now as I do not and will not buy or play any EA games.
Mark ya screwed up big time!
Considering the past record, I don't know if we can put too much stock into what Jacobs is saying. Regardless, it's evident that he's lost a lot of people's faith with this acquisition by EA. I think this was just posted for damage control, he really doesn't sound like the type of guy who wanted to fill in any of his players of any relevant information until after the fact.
