Is the progression server in a sense just like a themed server (RP, PvP, RPPvP, Normal)? Would it be accessible in the same way that you connect to any other MMOG server?
Anyone know if the trial allows you to try the progression server?
ReKindle, I share in your excitement for the new progression servers. I am going to give it a try, but I have a feeling that guilds will have a big advantage and I am not a part of one for EQ just yet (I'm still involved in my guild for EQ2).
It'll still be fun for a while, but I think once most players start to get leaps ahead of me, it will be harder to find groups and eventually I fear I would lose interest.
EQ is definitely not an mmorpg you can play at a slow, relaxed pace
Anyone who can get onto try out Everquest now should try it out. It's a madhouse. I've never seen so many people on any game at one time. There are corpses everywhere. lol.
Almost a week in here are my personal pros and cons
Pros-
I almost forget its 2006 and I'm having fun thus far (main thing right?).
Lots and lots and lots of people, lots of spam in Gfay and East Commonlands.
Cons.
SOE's quality testing is still something to be desireable: They screwed up and left a bug in the game that poses the possibility of adding mudflation to the game.
They still lock threads that provide anytype of feed back - their mods are still too lock happy...I posted something about them preferring hard core gamers over casual gamers and it was pretty civil and was locked out of the blue for no apparant reason.
Overall
All and all the community is spinning up on Combine with the hard core lunatics who never sleep on top of the game - You go FoH. I'm having a good time and I'm probably going to give this another month and treat it month by month.
I tried coming back to EQ a couple times but I had fallen so far out of touch with my character and class that it didnt really work. This one last kick at the can where I don't have to play expansion X to be where the crowds are.
Originally posted by Tithrielle Guess so, now there's no excuse for old players to not try out the progression servers...
Other than the dated graphics and tired gameplay, of course. ;-)
JMHO obviously. I played EQ for a long time. I loved it but I'm not interested in going back. EQ2 meets my need for nostalgia while giving me a new gaming experience.

No longer visiting MMORPG.com.
I can't wait. I've got two day's off work to enjoy it. I sure have thought about the old days of EQ a lot at times, so this is going to be pretty fun.

Any additional info on this? Link?
I'd give it another try if I didn't have to cope with the multple expansions already released (which is pretty much my problem with SOE).
NM, this is EQ not EQ2...
I'm pretty sure you can download the patcher and have it patch up to the expansions you want:

I'm home to play and I have to wait for the update. My meditation classes aren't working. I have no patience. LoL!!!
I have a very long weekend to play. This is so cool. I want to see what everyone does in the old zones.
