I just do not see the point in the 256mb cards, no game currently requires 256mb so why bother? When the games come out there will be cards more powerful able to preform for them.
That's very true, the 256MB videocards are just a marketing sceam... I can easily out perform the 5950 Ultra... and I only have the 5900... but my speeds are 500/1000
I must admit I believe ram is more influential to your mmorpg game play than your video card (after a certain point offcourse). I am using 2 gig of ddr400 because I share the computer with my flat mate who is a med student and runs this outrageous 3d body program that sucks up ram like an ant eater on a sugar high.
I agree. I'm getting another stick of my RAM (see signature) so I can have 1GB in DualDDR support. RAM is what makes your computer run... don't get me wrong, better hardware is always nice... but you are right. More RAM, the better your system is. I also need better cooling so I can push my computer faster.
The only problem I have come across with my pc's my case, I got one specially made because I wanted a nice fat case which resembles a large rectangle. This was so I could fit my 4 cooling fan system in so I can push it as much as possible and keep it nice and quiet.
I also live in NZ. Ya i can't go spending 1000 bucks on a vid card guess I will have to wait and see when eq2 comes out. How much does it cost to get 256mb ram to 1gb. I need to upgrade vid card, ram, sound card, possibly my 1.4ghz to 2.5ghz. Can anyone tell me how much it's gonna cost.
Well I know you can get a raedeon 9600 pro for around $270, also the ram has come down alot lately getting your 256 should only be $150 to $250, with the cpu i have no idea but I would try your local computer seller, try the asian computer retailers since I have found them most reliable.
Murt, your devotion is heartfelt and cute...if a little scary, but I just cant understand how anyone can call EQ2's graphics good, let alone great.
I salute them that they are trying to reach a new level of graphics with all the special bump mapping, shadow effects, and other things to make the game look more realistic on a new level. On those merits I would agree the game looks years ahead of the other mmorpgs and even most single player games.
The problem is those aspects are only a very tiny portion of the whole when it comes to graphics. When I look at an image or play a game I want to see some art, some flare, something that looks neat. This is especially true in high fantasy, and EQ2 seems to lack these elements completely. There is no art involved at all really. Its just a fairly poor 3d model of the different race bodies (mitten hands, unproportioned bodies) with very lackluster textures applied that results in some of the poorest looking images in any of the new mmorpgs. I even prefer the original EQ models...
Beyond the poor body shapes, the armor and weapon models go one step further in making this game look clunky and without any style. Looking at that latest dwarf in silver armor I really have to wonder who could possibly come up with something so silly. He looks like he is wearing a silver spandex suite with no joints or anyway he could get in or out of such a thing.
Games like Lineage II are much more "realistic" looking imo because of their style, variety and flare. WoW has great artistic elements that make it appealing as well though it has strayed far from the realistic approach it looks great.
Maybe EQ2 will be a bridge to a new generation when games will have both the ultra realistic high end graphics and a sense of stlye and art, but EQ2 its self will not be that end result.
As for gameplay, I am very depressed with the complete ruin of the lore and culture of the races to create the one good, one evil city theme. I loved EQ largely because of the different races, factions, cities, and cultures. It was a marvel to behold each of the races cities for the first time and learn the great differences in the races abilities and beliefs.
Now the choice of race seems pointless and boring. Its simply a matter of how your character looks now and only removes them further from the world they are supposed to be a part of.
There are quite a few things that sound really great being implemented but the removal of some of the core elements that made the original great has left me feeling very dissapointed in where the sequal is going. I still have my fingers crossed for EQ2, but have turned to other games like Lineage 2, UXO, and WoW to pin my hopes.

edit: bahaha I wrote "nice fat cafe" by accident.
This is my case, it's a Chieftec Silver Aluminum Workstation Tower Server Chassis with 450W Power Supply.
