I was wondering which posters here are currently playing in the noob area?
I am playing with my son and brother, in game names, Salvatoris, Liferz and Hawlk. I will probably be in the ruins for another week, while my son runs through the quests. I just have a couple of magic quests left, and to finish the main quest and I'll be ready to subscribe and see what the mainland has to offer. I am always up to help with the quests, just give me a shout. I will also make any fyros light or heavy armor you can supply the mats for

Salvatoris, I must appologise for not answering back the other day when I was in the jungle harvesting, I dont really watch the area message screen, my Bad, Well have been on Newb Island for about a week and arrived in Pyr yesterday, all I can say is its a big place out there, and they really need some decent low lvl crafters on the main lands, becuase I think the Vets cannot be arsed, I think this influx of new players is going to shake them up abit.
And in answer to your question the other day, what resorces are available in the Jungle, well Q45 of all base materials, and mix that with the stingers of the Kipesta's and your made as they are Q40.
Its well worth grinding till you get 40 degrees, 10 metres and gentle 50, then harvest all the jewel mats, and arrive on the main lands with a little cash.
I made about 1.1M whilst on Noob Island, I bought two sets of Armour and two sets of jewels so only had about 700K when I got too the main land, I bought 2 mexicamelhippycrockydoggie things and they are great storage, been out with my mate murdering hard Kipee's, so went upto lvl 58 2H in one nght from lvl 48 ish, and now the disgruntled owner of a crap slow 2H fire axe average Q80 which cost a whole 15K.
I'm on the RoS island as well. Meshin is the name. Zorai and keeping all 4 skills even for the moment. Just killed Arken last night and am about the same point, quest-wise in the other areas.
I'm 90% a go for purchasing. My only concerns are around the size of the mainland population, acceptance by the old homins (they are very helpful in /Universal chat) and lack of direction on the mainland(in terms of quests/missions).
Ryzom reminds me of Asheron's Call in a lot of ways. Huge landmass with little direction. Sure, you could find quests to do, but they were not as obvious as they are in WoW. Monthly content upgrades and events made that game what it was. Population was and remains small, although not as helpful/mature as the community in Ryzom.
For those Old Homin reading this, please know that us young Homin get the sense that the community is tightnit and comfortable/complacent. I've discussed this with other players. Seems to be common for young Homin to worry that they won't be accepted on the mainland because they are new blood.
It's a perception that I hope is wrong because it sounds like you need a mentor to give you some direction on the mainland inasmuch as you needed a Patron(older sibling figure/guide) in AC. Don't shut out the new blood being infused into the game. It's vital to keep the playerbase increasing. Yes, the community is and will change. Only thing you can do is try to understand where they are coming from and help them to get to where you are at.

My wife and I are on the newbie island
We are new and haven't done much yet, we don't have a lot of time at the moment so we are taking it slow and smelling the flowers
We are both Zorai
Me = Phezule
Wife = Miirka
Kami = forever
/salute
The community is tighnit and comfortable, the community is also very welcoming to new players as hopefully the universe channel shows. pretty much everyone will drop whatever they are doing to answer questions and help ppl out so dont feel we are some elitist group that wont let new ones in, its far from the case.
I started an alt a few months ago, didnt tell anyone who i was, he has plenty of new friends now
I decided to subscribe tonight. I still have a number of quests to do on the island, but I wanted to ensure that when I was ready I'd be able to port there.
Looking forward to meeting more established Homin over the next week or so.

It´s fun to hang around and get "back to the noobs" so to say As "back to the roots" would in this game implement something entirely different *giggle*
Looking foreward to meet some of you InGame and chat, or maybe I have allready... who knows...

Can't easily pick up any crafting upgrades so I may hitch a ride back to get a teleport pass-thing as I forgot to get one of those before leaving.

At the little Kami and Karavan people near the towns, you buy a little teleport item for about 12K. Make sure to get one before leaving the area so you can go back yourself, and then buy another one, and teleport back to where you came from.
Its not hard to find them I just never talked to them to get one as I didn't know about the teleporting thing the begin with. I don't think it is blatantly described anywhere like in newbie tutorials/missions.
I have to get another trek-assist to go BACK so I can get one.
Heh, you live, you learn. I have done that plenty a time meself.
The bright side is, Trekking in SoR is one of the funnest thing you can do in any mmorpgs
