EQ1 got a lot of exposure in pop culture also after it was first released.

...but it was pretty much all jokes about the players living in mom's basement and having bad skin.

Unfortunately WoW is the "cool" game to play, which of course only leads it to be increasingly popular.  I can't go into any store that sells electronics without tripping over someone that plays WoW.

Means that you get so many people who are bias towards it that other products are then at a disadvantage.  For example there is more than a few websites round who refuse to post info about any other MMOs due to their staff playing it.  Reminds me of when UT game out here, it wasnt picked up till UT2k4 was out as people basicly refused to support it as it wasnt their beloved quake so the people who didn want to play it couldnt find servers, local places to dl patches and so on.

The article states that he mentioned his WoW addiction to a audience at the famous San Francisco comedy club called the Punchline.

"You know what I've been playing a lot of?" the comedian reportedly
asked the crowd. "World of Warcraft!" When a few cheers broke out, he
reportedly responded, "I knew I had some geek brothers and sisters up
in here!" Chappelle also was said to have expressed his amusement
seeing WoW characters with names referring to his most famous sketches,
including a rogue with a name inspired by the famous "I'm Rick James,
    B****" sketch.

He just got an $83,000,000 contract from Comedy Central that says otherwise.  And the folks who run Comedy Central are paid professionals who are supposed to know about what is funny and what is not.  Using your own logic in other threads, I would say that this must mean, despite your opinion, that Dave Chappelle is VERY funny.

If 6 million is a reliable number to prove to you that a game is #1, surely you can't argue with 83 million with a straight face.

im sorry to say this by a million dollar contract doesent make a person funny :-p

Comedy central im happy i dont live in the states where a place decides what is fun fo you and what is not

  • ArtemizArtemiz Member Posts: 58
They don't decide what is funny for you or me. The people decide by watching the show and it shows by its ratings. I use to not like Dave Chappelle, but that was because I didn't watch his show. I think he can be hilarious at times. You don't get paid a multi-million dollar contract to be funny, you get paid a multi-million dollar contract for "being" outrageously funny.

No, but it makes it clear that a lot of people, AND a lot of the professionals who count, DO think the person is funny.
