Given the general discontent over this game,my question put simply is thus.

If Farlan decided tomorrow that for perhaps a limited time and/or forever that DnL was to become a F2P game (maybe add a Cash-shop for profit),would you play/return to DnL at all?

I for one, would be curious in playing DnL under those circumstances. Because DnL is getting negative (and seemingly rightfully so) attention here,so it must have had a good reason once to crave POSITIVE attention.

Pretty much the only way this game will survive and have any customers is to make it free to play, with no purchase for the client and charging for items, goth, etc.  Even doing that the game is most likely dead.  Making it free will not fix the horrible design, horrible combat system or make the game fun.  If SoG proved one thing it showed that out of the 30,000 people given access only a bout a 100 would play the game for free.  Probably even a smaller percentage would play it for free now at release.

You guys really think that after actually trying the game, anybody will pay for items... the only way DnL is gonna make money is doing what they are doing right now

1º selling it online only so the big stores dont complain and send all of it back

2º selling without a trial and charging the 15$ for the month upfront so anybody who try it already paid

3º making publicity on forums with fake/incomplete reviews to try to get more ppl to buy it without trying

I would login, get a bugged weapon, gank ZtyX, then quit again.

Would I play again if it were free?  No thanks, couldn't take the torture again.

(Except I might be tempted to log in just to see tetsul gank Ztyx)

You could always buy it and then request a refund or do a CC chargeback.  Its a rare oppurtunity to play the worst game ever made.

I'd nail Kiera Knightly for the 27 seconds I'd last (that includes kissing) if I could.

I'd fly to Mars and have tea with aliens if I could.

Problem is I can't..  It seems everone has a restraining order these days..

It may be fun to talk about a free DnL, but it can't happen.  The game was released because they were broke.  They have to make money now..

Even if it was free i would not touch it again.
Then i rather download Anarchy Online again and play that for free.

Hmm maybe i should just do that again for old times sake.

NO...never.  Incompetance is DnL's driving force.  Why would I want to beat my head up against the wall for free when i can pay $15/month to beat some Orcs head up against the wall..??

This isn't a game. This is experiment in human torture. I would be afraid to even install this thing. Who knows what sypware or crap it will install.

There is already a cash shop for those that dont want to pay a monthly fee (but you still pay for the client program).
BUT you need to pay 14$-20$ (depends if you pay in euro) to switch to the "freedom"-option. Also you get limitations & you MUST pay (to buy points) to use some items so why its called "freedom" I have no idea..

Spyware definition (From Wikipedia) "While the term taken literally suggests software that surreptitiously monitors the user, it has come to refer more broadly to software that subverts the computer's operation for the benefit of a third party.

Spyware differs from viruses and worms in that it does not usually self-replicate. Like many recent viruses, however, spyware – by design – exploits infected computers for commercial gain.Typical tactics furthering this goal include delivery of unsolicited pop-up advertisements; theft of personal information (including financial information such as credit card numbers); monitoring of Web-browsing activity for marketing purposes; or routing of HTTP requests to advertising sites."

    Let's consider the facts:
    1. Software that subverts the computer's operation - Check
    2. Benefit of a Third Party - Check
    3. Doesn't Self Replicate (I'd like to see them try and program that one) - Check
    4. Exploits the 'infected' computer for commerial gain - Check

IMHO, DnL, with a few more patches, could actually turn into spyware itself. Think about it, all Farlan has to do is figure out that with a few Viagara pop ups here and there they may turn a profit and viola: DnL is Spyware!

Yes I would play. I'm not sure it would help though. Shadowbane did it. I'm not sure if it's helping that game though.

See the problem with D&L is that it's a bad game, not an unpopular game.

Make a good game that's not well know free to play and generate that publicity and word-of-mouth needed to gain players. Make a bad game free to play and you show the whole world how bad it is, and your game dies.

Let's face facts. Shadowbane has it's problems and it's gameplay isn't for everyone, but it is in no way as bad as D&L. So their gamble with making it free to play may pay off. If Farlan makes D&L free to play it will be the nail in the coffin.

What they need to do is hire competent developers. After Pix and crew jumped ship it seems all that was left was a bunch of amateur devs who are slower than molasses and don't even bother with the game on weekends. Maybe the weekend fiascos were just a SOG thing. But you get my point.
