More Tears Flowing at SWG :)

Latest comlink describes the expertise system for Jedi.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=DevDiscussion&message.id=51796#M51796

The devs have, surprise surprise, lied once again by taking away Jedi gifts and regifting them back in the WOW-knock-off expertise system despite their prior protestations to the contrary. Oh, and the expertise system lacks imagination too.

Ahhh... the current SWG subscribers, those poor dumb SOBs, their tears taste so sweet :)

It worked this way because Jedi had a revamp which added more abilities
to their profession.  In order to keep everything equal the abilities
that were added are now part of the expertise system, when the other
professions that didn't have a revamp get their expertise systems all
of the professions should end up having the same number of abilities.
Jedi got their expertise skills before the system was probably
    percieved.

Jedi will always complain though, I think they were expecting some uber
saberblock or forcerun and when they didn't get it everything went to
hell like everything always does when jedi don't feel godly enough. At
least they have Luke's iconic whining down.

Problem is everyone else pretty much knows if they do this their existing abilities will be treated the same.

If they go live with this as it is, SWG is cancelled before winter.

    Almost everyone is outraged.

What makes it worse is helios stated 3 days ago at Stratics that expertise would NOT be about making you buy back what you have now, it'd be new stuff.  And they proved that a lie today.

I hope they do this.  We can only win. There are only two outcomes possible:

    1. SOE does classic servers rather than shut the game down.
    2. SOE/LEC close the game thus making emu servers perfectly legal as it won't be competing with them.

    We can't lose.

All it takes is one positive post out of hundreds of negative posts to make the developers think everyone loves it.

Pshh Jedi are the golden children of this friggin game.  Ever since the profession was released the devs have spent extra resources on that profession while pushing back much more needed fixes for the rest of the community.  They have continually been the first profession worked on and this time it bit SOE in the ass because Jedi got their Expertise skills before the system was ready which made them liars.  If those pricks wouldn't put so much emphasis on friggin jedi then they could have built up a little credibility for themselves and then explained why Jedi was working the way it was.  I've said it before and I'll say it again. JEDI KILLED SWG.

I'm a 1092 day vet I've been around the block a few times. I've seen my profession (bh) nerfed into oblivion and then resurrected to an insane degree only to see it whored off to all the l33t fr3ak kiddies who dont have the attention span to play Jedi but still want to be "uber". So yeah... I'm pre-NGE by a little bit.

    Nope.

Jedi got the minimal required attention. The ammount of attention one expects for all game aspects. But with SWG people have gotten so used to being fed breadcrumbs in place of cakes, they gobble them down, and say Thank you, may I have another.

No effort of any kind was ever put into any aspect of SWG. Everything served was a poor excuse of a hack. Restuss was hyped as make or break event. It contains 3 kill quests and 1 crafting quest. Not some new storyline either, just generic mission:destroy_mission:faction_mission template, with (Dark Trooper, 5, 3000, 50, rebel) parameters.

Everyone loves to praise the devs for their hard work. Nobody cares. This is indeed like Stockhold syndrome. Devs aren't here to do you favors. You're paying premium price.

The ammount of attention that went into Jedi (Village, FRS, balancing, quests) should be the absolute minimum available to each and every profession from the start.

From what I see now, SWG simply cannot be maintained:
    - No authoring tools of any kind (base walls inside terrain, static rehashed buildings, no dynamic mission content of any kind, just existing static spawns)
    - No development abilities (adding a new mission type would be trivial in just about any online system, why not here? The flaws with restuss mission were known, why not fix them by design, it would save a lot of trouble and time)
    - No polish (None. Of any kind)
    - Complete and utter incompetence (Restuss took weeks of testing, another week on TC, and went out as completely broken, even worse, with bugs known since this mission type was added)
    - Complete discord between players and their desires (everything you see published now, has been developed 3-6 months ago, and has been in testing for at least a month. The expertise is already fully implemented and is being tested internally. It doesn't matter if players shoot it down. Jedi expertise is done, so is the BH. They are working on next tasks. The only thing left, is to discover server crashing, integrity breaking issues, the rest is done deal).

I just wish that the players would use this on SOE:

"Screw you guys, I'm going home."

I agree this is the worst thing the DEVS could have done. All along we heard about new abilities and to not make any decisions on the game until Restuss and the Expertise system come out. Well Restuss sucks, quests are broken, and were not tested fully (this was stated by SWG-Swede on the forums) and now this expertise system which well isn't close to what they told us, and is a blatant rip off of WoW. Don't these devs have any creativity of their own? I guess not, and that is why they fail!

Well if the 4th of july exodus was a rumor before, well then this might make it reality.

Why do people even bother reading info on this game.

Its dead, gone, SoE will never bring it back.

Even EQ2 is in the shithouse, sure their patch list was long, but its mostly fixes from the last 6 months bad programmed patches.

I will say one thing, SoE need to stop saying they "lead the way in MMORPG innovation" it makes me want to kill kittens.

I only read replies from the first 5 pages but it kinda looks like $OE promised not to do something and then turned around and did it anyways. Basically screwing thier playerbase ..... AGAIN.

I have NO sympathy for these people that continue to give $OE their money. $OE will never change until changes are made from the TOP down. Starting with Smedley.

We're still thinking about it.  The more points that are available the more similar everyone's build becomes.  Less points equals more template diversity.

lmao they have no idea what they are doing.  They have next to NO plan and are basicly making it up as they go.

I should start taking bets on how long it will be before the 'Expertise' system gets a complete revamp.  I say 6 months at the most.

Oh I dont know about that.. Have you checked out the SWG forums lately since the announcement of the Expertise system? I think they have us beat now.

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

Somebody explain how less points = more diversity.

and btw, it will take them more than 6 months to finish the expertise systems.
