Gay Adoption

I started coming to this site when one of my friends at school told me about it.  We play Guild Wars together and he recommended it.

I never really wanted to post anything until now, I mostly just read the news and watched the reviews.  But I noticed some people posting stuff about gay parents and saying they are bad.

The reason I wanted to say something is because my dad is gay.  My dad also lives with his partner.  And you guys who say gay people can't be good parents are wrong.  And you who say that it is unfair to the kids are wrong too.

I have learned so much from my dad and his partner.  (I call them Dad and Pop).  I feel very lucky to be in the family that I am in.  I wouldn't wish for another.

My dad told me the story of when I was born.  He said that he and my mom were good friends when they were younger and that they thought they were in love at once.  But they weren't.  He said he was just denieing he was gay to fit in.  And I was born.  My mom took care of me until she was killed in a car wreck when I was 1.  That's when my dad started taking care of me.  He says he had to fight my grandparents to get custody of me.  They didn't want me living with him at first.  But trust me, they are more than cool now.  my Gram and Paw (my moms parents) love my dad and come visit us all the time.

I have always known my dad and his partner to be together.  Ever since I can remember.  They are totally in love.  And I love both of them just the same.  It's like having two parents.  I love my mom in heaven too, but I feel like I have 3 equal parents.  Which is cool.   And I know my mom loves my Pop.  I can just feel it all the time.  I feel like she's watching us.

Also, my friends and teachers at school know too.  There are a few kids at school who pick on me sometimes, but I don't have to take up for myself.  I don't have time to.  Someone around me jumps on them first.  And my teachers know that they can call either one of my parents when I'm bad.  And I am in just as much trouble with one as with the other.

Also, my parents asked me if I wanted to go to a support group once with kids who have gay parents.  I went just to see what it was like.  I made some friends there.  But we didn't need it.  Everyone there was perfectly happy.

I think people are making a big deal out of this.  And the people who have a problem with it are the only ones making a problem out of it.  I heard a saying once that if you don't like how reality is that you will try to shape it into what you think reality should be.  I think that's what people who hate gays are doing.  They see that gay people don't fit into their stereotype, or that gay families are fine, so they try to go hurt us.  It's sad really.  Because we're doing great if you'd leave us alone.

I know some people are going to cut me down and that's fine.  I'm sure that you don't understand my family.  But I can promise you we're just a loving caring family who gets through stuff just like yours.  And we'll get through whatever life gives us.  I'm not sure I'll respond to someone who says anything hateful, but if anyone has any questions, I don't mind answering them.

Thanks u guys...

I live down the street from a white couple who have adopted a black child and they are having some trouble with kids at school picking on her.  Black kids at school at that.  It doesn't make any sense to me.  They beat her up the other day.  For having white parents?!?!?!?!  So people saying that gay parents are bad are just jumping on a bandwagon against gays.  I've always thought that.  Anyone could end up getting picked on at school or bullied.  This is a straight couple, so I guess if someone thinks that no kid should be put through stress then they would be against inter-racial adoption too.

While it's not good that your mom passed away at least you recognize that you ended up in a loving family.  And it's good that your grandparents have come around too.  You've got your head where it matters.  And I've always thought that sometimes seeing things from another perspective is what it takes to gain the wisdom in life to be a better person.  I'm sure you're going to be an awesome adult with your experiences.  The good and the bad ones.

I hear my kids say some of the things that you said and I feel so proud of them.  I bet your parents are just as proud of you.

    It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid

I agree on this subject.  Gay parents can raise a child.  And are just as good as any straight parent if not better.  Sexual origin doesn't play a role in finding a fit parent for an orphaned child.

But, gay marriage is an issue seperate from this.

So why change the subject?  Start a new topic if you'd like to discuss that.

A women, I knew had a straight father and she claimed to be gay.  Her father hated her for most of her teenage life because she thought of her self as a homosexual.  He exiled her from the rest of the family and, they would get into many fights.  She finally moved out and, lived with a gay couple and, continued to live out her life in peace.

All I have to say is....homosexuality is natural and a child with a loving family is better off than one without.

oh..and that was one inspiring story OP.

I read a thing the other day where there are reports starting to come out where long term studies were done on gay adoption.  And they are all saying the same thing.  That the kids are doing fine.

I heard a guy on the radio the other day calling gay adoption a case of "trophy kids".  I didn't know what he was talking about until I listened to him for a little bit.  I guess it shows how naive I am to not get what he meant at first.  I couldn't imagine someone adopting a child for any reason other than wanting to love and care for another human being.  But apparently in his heart he could see another reason.  He felt that gays were adopting to try to prove a point.  I think that for someone to come up with that idea shows the kind of person they are inside.  He took this as an opportunity to demonize gays again.

I am glad you shared your story with us.  It shows how wrong everyone is to assume that kids raised by gay parents are all living this horrible life.  You sound like you're a lot smarter and lot more stable than a lot of kids I've met raised in straight homes.  That's for sure.

Wow...a post by someone with one post count to their name, and registered within the last 24 hours telling a story about how right gay adoption is.

This is without a doubt factually authentic.

CALL THE WHITEHOUSE! THE PENTAGON! We got ourselves hard-core proof that gay adoption is if anything, good for the mental growth of a child!

I mean afterall, this is the internet. A place where 50 year old truckers are sexy 18 year old girls, and 15 year old guys are 25 year old pimps that bench 350 lb's and are best friends with Bill Gates...

No. But the fact that the account was created a day ago and this was the first post by the guy, added with the fact that there have been like 5 homosexually oriented topics within the past couple of weeks does.

I'm not spoiled.  I have been reading them.  I don't know what to say to them is all.  I admit I expected more people to say mean stuff to me.  I was scared to look for a few hours.  So thanks for so many people saying nice stuff.  I'm kind of embarrasssed really.  I've never posted before so I guess this was  big step for a first time posting.

So? Account creation doesn't mean anything either. Except that, well you created an account. All that matter's is the quality of the poster and willingness to participate. The mods here welcome all, even though the mods aren't allowed to post as much as before.

People end up making a big deal about this often because some kids have their parents raise them in a conservative manner and teach them stupid values like homosexuals are evil, which works since kids are easily brainwashed. Personally, I think our generation, teenagers and young adults are more used to homosexuality so all this bad mojo about homosexuals most likely will go away.

Oh yes, and I applaud you for giving a well written post with good grammer

Kids usually don't have problems like that, but what kids do is feed off of the hate that other adults have (maybe their parents) and they pick on her. That is why. There is still (hidden) racism in the US. The city governer (and the last one) who took charge of Myrtle Beach was racist. I still don't understand most white people.

Uhm, what? He said it was black kids that were doing it. Where did that come from?
