PvP servers?

GreyfaceGreyface Member Posts: 390

Can someone tell me what the PvP servers are like in EQ2?  Is it faction vs. faction or free-for-all?  Are there safe zones?  Does the PvP affect anything external to the characters engaging in it?  And is there any PvP on the regular servers, or is it an all-or-nothing kind of situation?

Thanks for your help.

Both to be honest, it starts out faction vs faction but i think you can become an exile of sorts from both sides (dont quote me on that though i dont play PvP, just what i read)

Only the newbie zones i believe.  Once your out in either Antonica or Commonlands and beyond your fair game.

PvP is on the regular servers but it is not open, its either a consensuel Duel or you can combat in the arenas one on one or in groups using either youself or an arena pet fighing for you.
    Thanks for your help.

PvP on EQ2 has penaltys as well, so develop a thick skin cause your going to get ganked.

    When you die on EQ2.

    1. Your toon takes a xp debt from either NPC or PKer

    2. Your toons gear takes damage when you die also, so you gotta fix it with the city menders.

    3. Your toon loses an item in your inventory and some coin when killed by a PKer.

    4. Most popular classes in EQ2 PvP are the Hunter Class with STEALTH (Rangers, Swashbucklers etc) Other players intend on playing Monks which also rock in PvP as well. Casters have a hell of a time on this type of server unless your grouped and still the PKers kill you 1st. Even level 10 - 20 expect some serious PvP action. This game is best when you got a group/guild to level with, otherwise if you like to solo, its gonna take you some time to level in this game.

    5. The PvP got certain levels and will just give you a quick example. If you are Level 15 and in a area where your in a 4 Level Killing range (you may stand a chance). This means a level 20 cant kill you but his level 19 buddy will. If you enter a Zone with a 8 Level difference, get ready to be pwned. Alot of people intend to Trink out there alts and no where to go to do some PKing. So if your a new guy on the block with the EQ2 game, I suggest trying the PVE servers first, so at least you can get the hang of the game and know where the quest may be. If not, get ready to develop a thick skin, cause your going to get ganked cause the person killing you has incentive to kill you and not just /wave (Ahem WoW) and he walks on his merry way to do his quest. (YOU ARE LOOT)

    6. The game is fun if your doing the Giving and not the Receiving in PvP. LOL

    7. If your grouped up with a level 25 and your level 15, more an likely your lvl 25 bud wont help you if there is a Level restriction in that PvP zone, so all he can do is watch you die.

I might have missed a few other things, but if anything else comes to mind, I will let you know.

Its brutual on EQ2 and WoW PvP is kiddish compared to it.

    Oops forgot..

PS. The PVE servers do have PvP in them, but just in the Arenas/Duels as the previous poster said as well.

Hrm... okay.  I'm having UO flashbacks now.  PvE it is then.  I usually prefer Faction vs. Faction.  FFA gets annoying fast.

So the PvP server is Faction vs Faction? not Free for all?

Also how does Faction vs Faction work on normal servers, are there FvF
areas or open pvp areas? or is it just basicly two factions who are
    friendly to eachother.

    Thanks

On PvE servers queynos/freeport can group together.

on pvp they are fighting against each other, and can't group cross faction.

ps: the pvp realy isn't much of pvp, it's just gank. And also, the best pvp is in the 20's. When you get up higher there aren't as many players.

Hmm, sounds like a PVE server would be more enjoyable then.  And if I ever wanted to see how my character can do against others, just pvp in the arena or whatever.

This is incorrect, you don't take equipment damage from pvp combat UNLESS, you are on a mobs agro list.

    3. Your toon loses an item in your inventory and some coin when killed by a PKer.

Generally you lose money, occasionally items, you cannot lose any attuned items, nor can you lose 'special' items that you may have looted.

Agreed, 20-25 is a big hump to get over in the PVP stakes, especially if you plan on soloing your way through.  I play on Darathar and there are a number of players who have level capped their characters at L28 so that they can PVP in the Commonlands basically griefing all and sundry in and around the newbie areas.

You'll find that a lot rove in groups of 2 or 3, they tend to hang out at bird stations, zone lines and follow you around (further than 20m, until you engage a mob, they then tend to wait until you are just above 50% health and then attack.

I'd agree with the light blue quote, you are loot, never take cash out into the field, bank as often as you can, losing 30sp is better than losing 30gp

    6. The game is fun if your doing the Giving and not the Receiving in PvP. LOL

It can be frustrating, early level 20's is a nightmare, expect to die 2 or 3 times a night unless you can find an instanced zone to exp in.  If you play an evil player (Freeport) you can disappear into Nektulous Forest around L27-28 and get some decent solo experience, I assume Thundering Steppes is a little more difficult as it's a little more linear.  Rarely do PvPers roam Nektulous as they're generally around the level to get a lot of agro (25-29).

    7. If your grouped up with a level 25 and your level 15, more an likely your lvl 25 bud wont help you if there is a Level restriction in that PvP zone, so all he can do is watch you die.

Good point, we had a L21 in our group roaming Stormhold, most of us where 25+ and he would drop out of the group to attack players in his level range but above ours.

I'm relatively new to the EQ2 PVP server, it's my first PVP game in an RPG format and although the L20-25 hump was annoying, I got through and have had some good fun exping and pvping at the same time.  Grinding in EQ2 can be a bore but it gets spiced up when you have to keep an eye on your back incase you get attacked by someone else.

    Life can be tapped

my thoughts exactly, there seems to be little, if any, point to the pvp. seems like the feature was added just to cash in on the growing popularity of the pvp buzzword.
I tend to enjoy pvp on dark age of camelot, as it is given purpose there, take keeps to gain entry to areas, take relics to weaken enemies or strengthen your realm and so on. just killing for the sake of killing is only fun for so long

I play on Vox, and the population is starting to mature with lots of ganking now going on in the 50's as well as lower levels. On Vox, Freeporters greatly outnumber us Qeynosians, primarily I think because assassins are pretty tough (hello Assasinate -2400 pts of insta dmg), SK's get harm touch, and Bruisers generally pvp better than monks (not by much, but it is perceptable).

Makes things interesting for a Qeynosian. Can't really solo much, except in instances. Never seems to be just one freep. On the other hand, if you get together with some of your pvp buds, there is rarely a shortage of pvp targets, due to the massive proliferation of Lucan's minions. I would be willing to bet that oftentimes Freeporters are unable to find suitable Qeynosians to gank.

The thing I think is unique about EQ2's PvP system is that taunts actually work. Pretty cool. A well balanced group with a solid tank and some healage can usually take down a group comprised of those freeport favorites, assassins and bruisers, pretty easily. Taunt will lock em on to hitting the tank and the group picks them off, them not being able to damage quickly enough to keep up with the healing on the tank. As far as I know, no other game has offered taunting as a pvp tool. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd half expected to see a "pve game that allowed you to attack other players," but they actually did a nice job on it.
