What the heck should I play?

BigfootBigfoot Member Posts: 364
I've been playing MMORPG's since middle school (I'm almost 21), so a pretty good while.

My first MMO was The Realm Online, haha :P

besides the Realm, the longest I've played an MMO was DAoC for about 2 years, but I can't stand paying $30 anymore(since you have to have a buffbot to compete).

I've tried CoH/CoV but I never last past a month.

I've tried WoW, quit in a month too.  Tried it again, made it to lvl 57 and got tired of the game.  Sure, WoW is great for a newbie to MMO's, but not for me I guess.

What's out there that's pretty good for me to try out?  I don't mind grinding really.  PVP is always a plus, and never care for group dependent MMOs(FFXI), but not counting end game raids because you obviously need groups for those.

I thought about EQII...maybe even..EQ?  I dunno.  Maybe I should just wait for WAR.

If you made lvl 57 in a month then EVE definitally isn't for you.

You could always give the free games a shot, like AO and Shadowbane (if it's still up).

You seem like you grind pretty fast if you made lvl 57 in a month of WoW... I grind slow and made lvl 32 in the month and a half that I played. I just liked exploring the world mostly to find stuff to make money with. (I had about 1,000g and my eng skill was maxed for my lvl... 275/300 I think?)

ANYWAY.... Why don't you give L2 a shot? The grind is probably something you would enjoy and the endgame PVP is supposed to be one of the best out there. I personally haven't played it though.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you.... Long time MMO player, burned out on DAoC, angry at WoW and bored senseless with CoH/CoV.   At the moment, I'm playing the free trial for EQ2 which hasn't been bad (to my surprise).  I think it's worth a look.

Been lurking a long time, but decided to register for this.

Saga of Ryzom! having played everything from meridian 59 to Star Wars
Galaxies (pre cu, pre nge) to Everquest 2, I can honestly say Saga of
Ryzom is the best of the lot, if you only play a mmo for the pvp aspect
though then Eve Online should be your choice, I however can't roleplay
a disembodied head in a spaceship, and i'm not that big on pvp.

Try Ryzom if you want to be part of a friendly community and like to
feel your actually part of a world and not just a static charecter
among thousand of other static charecters. Also it has an open skill
system, so you can be whatever you want.

Well, I don't play MMO's just FOR pvp, but it's a nice bonus to have when you don't feel like PVEing.

If I were to pick EQII or EQ, which should I go with?  They both seem like they are strong going games atm, but what's the big difference besides graphics?  They look to have the same classes.

What about the Station Access Pass. You can play Everquest, Everqest 2,
Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, and Planetside for $25/mo and you
get all the games for like $30 I think. Might be worth a try. Comes
with free month too. Heres a link.

Yeah, I saw that at work tonight and I thought about getting it lol.  But I doubt I'd play SWG or TMO.

Also, question about that 5 pack in one set.  If I want to play just one of the games do I have to pay for all of them?  Or do I pick which one I want to subscribe to?

EverQuest is the king of static content and raiding. It is also not a casual-friendly game. To experience most of the game's content you must group, and to experience any of the raiding content you'll need a quality guild. The raiding is top-notch...best in the business. Some seriously difficult content out there...puts any other raiding game to shame. But expect to spend a lot of time leveling up.

EQ2 is a lot like WoW, in that it tries to be a jack-of-all-trades game wtih smooth sailing for solo, group, and raiding content. It's a decent game, very well polished. It has a lot of really nice touches to it, and plenty to do.

If you're ready to be truly hardcore, EQ is the game to pick. If you want another strong game with quality content then EQ2 is a good bet. At least, if these are the choices you're mulling over...there are other games on the market worth looking at too. I'd also suggest AO or EVE as two extremely good games.

You are "subscribed" to all of them, but you need to buy the actual retail box to play. In other words, you need an activation key to play any of the games. Fortunately, most of them are dirt cheap. You can probably get PlanetSide and MXO both for less than $5 (I did). You can buy EQ Platinum and it's latest 2 expansions, and EQ2 I've seen in bargain bins from time to time.

EQ2 without a doubt.More usefull content than any other game, and bots are not so noticeable as to be a joke. Most bots are in crafting.

I quit this game twice but am thinking of rejoining. It used to be kinda empty when i last played 9 months ago,but i heard they got ridda a few servers, making it a little better.Wow has a better AURA in that there is alot more noticeable players active, but just too many kiddies for my liking.Even after leaving WOW for several months i come back to see still such a childish community.

Lineage will never change,BOTS bots bots everywhere, and VERY noticeable. They have to be selling to someone?you can see 30 bots in just a handful of farming areas, thats alot of farming and alot of cheaters buying.FFXI has the botting on its bosses[expensive drops].WOW varies but not too noticeable.Eq2 the bots are mainly in crafting stalls, wich other than food cost doesn;t do too much to ruin the economy. You can get better gear from epic quests, you don't need to buy from the over priced crafting bots.

EQ2 monitors its community and game far more than any other,so they deffinately deserve a look see over any other game.I also liked the weekly survey SOE gave to keep them informed of what the community enjoyed or wanted to change.Allowing high level players the ability to mentor is a great idea to make partying ALOT better[less of a time sink]

EQ2 or pick a free game till something new comes out.Silkroad has no content but at least its a little fun to mess around on for free.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

All right, thanks guys.  I'll just pick up the EQII with the Kingdom Sky expansion included.  It's like $29.99 and I can get it for like $25 lol.

I just need something to pass time until fall semester.
