The hype was even higher before EA got involved ;)

As for why? Well, you're kinda wrong on the point that 'it doesnt have a high reputation predecessor', The Warhammer universe has almost 25 years of games, novels, RPG's, miniatures, all of which where the universe, or 'storyline' if you will, have always been superb and always left huge impressions.

Basicly what i'm saying is that the Warhammer universe is funny as hell and would make even what's otherwise a mediocre game kinda fun to play. Now if they manage to make a GOOD game..

*drool* yep, hence the hype ;)

It's based on a very popular Intellectual Property, one that fits itself into the medium well enough to justify the transition to the MMO medium. It also is being made by Mythic that already has a well rated game in Dark Age of Camelot.

Ye, it really is a case where the IP lends itself very well to the genre. Moreover the background story is war unending - no adaption of the main story in the warhammer universe is needed. What the game launch does hinge on, is if the rabid fanboys will accept the Developers view of the classes and progression. Also there is the inherent "unbalanced" point cost in the tabletop game, this have to bridged somehow for the mmorpg to be viable. I mean with the background lore a chaos warrior is vastly more powerfull than any other warrior. I do follow this game with interest, being a warhammer nutcase myself.

It's release isn't that far away if the Devs meet their deadline. Warhamer is well known and liked. Games Workshop is highly respected and I don't what you expect from screen shots but that game look pretty awsome and Warhammery to me without you needing cards that aren't even out yet to play it. I think it deserves to be the most hyped game(excluding TCoS) because it has alot of promise. I just don't get into Conan's motion capture animation and 'feel yourself swinging your sword'. WAR is alot more like Final Fantasy, my favorite offline RPG.

Much of the anticipation for WAR began with Mythic's surprisingly strong showing at E3.  WAR was on the floor and playable, apparently running smoothly and on multiple platforms.  The game has not been in development too long, so for WAR to appear at E3 in such an advanced stage was amazing in itself.  For WAR to be playable on the PC and the Xbox 360 (apparently the PC players had no idea they were grouped with a 360 player) is also impressive.  But most impressive is that all accounts of gameplay were extremely positive and that WAR is shaping up nicely.  All this translates to WAR is FUN!

Now playing Vanguard, but drooling for WAR

I don't understand why you'd ask this question.  There are posts in the forums all around you and information explaining what makes this game so great and it's history so solid.

Video touched on my only reason for anticipating this game- it's made by Mythic. Their last MMO is my favorite to date and I can't wait to see what they can do this time. I've never once played a Warhammer game of any kind, the world Mythic sets the RvR in is irrelevant. They could call their new MMO Snorehammer- I'll still be playing it.

War Hammer being so old and popular and Dark Age of Camelot should tell it all.  Not too mention Mythic has been making games for some time now and are extrememly reliable in the quality of their games.

Im playing DAoC since the first Day. It#s the best PvP/RvR Game for me. Now Mythic is comming up with a new Game. They learned from the mistakes and Im shure Warhammer is going to the Top. I can't wait to play this Game.

Greets from a german Player to the MMORPG World.

Sorry but thats just so ignorant that it's blowing my fuses. Warhammer is has been huge for the last twenty years and they pretty much reinvented fantasy as we know it today. Mythic is one of the most revered MMO developers there is. That pretty much sums up the hype.
