In the last few days they fixed a known proble with the corrupt download. So if he'd jsut had a look at the forums he woulda seen this wasn't jsut him andhe would've seen it wasn't jsut him.
Determined and smart people will have a look to try to fix the problem or see if others are having the problem. Impatient people won't. You can guess who I'd much rather be playing with.

Yes, that sort of mentality [in the first post] is shared by a vast majority of the WOW gamers unfortunately. After some time you will really want to spoon out your own eyeballs.
The funny thing is that when one or two of those types trickle into this game, they stick out like a fat sore thumb.
I downloaded and installed the game on the first try on June 30'th, 3 days after your post. For a company to fix an issue like this in a timely manner is a big plus in my book. (Hell I still think SWG-NGE's free trial is still messed up.)
I know by playing MMORPG's you get cynical, hell I know I am from it, but you atleast got to give them an honest chance before ripping into them.

I downloaded the client a week ago and Im loving the game Bought the full game online for only £1.99 so definately value for money.
I do regretably keep crashing out every 10-30 minutes but thats because of my graphics card which is knackered, and that will be fixed in a day or so when my new motherboard and cpu turn up which I will be able to use my brand new pci-express graphics card with

Ryzom, we dare to be different. Do you dare to adapt?
Well I think I have the game set to medium graphics atm and everything runs perfectly on my ATI Radeon 9200SE 128mb AGP Card, (apart from the card itself crashing.)
I have high hopes for my new Nvidia 6600 256mb Pci-Express Card Max settings a-go-go
pkh77 - Thanks for a great response on this thread. I was waiting for a few other MMO's to come out but now am enthused to check out this great game. Everything you said is right on the money.
Was just lurking and came across your response. It actually made me 1) sign up w/ mmorgh.com and 2) downloading the client now.
Thanks for the compliments. It was a really rushed rant over the genre as a whole, but it does reflect a bit of my personal viewpoints.
The hardest thing about this game is adapting to the differences between the newer games like WOW (if you are used to them.) It is not as fast-paced and things aren't spoonfed to you. It has a somewhat larger learning curve, but once things start to open up it can become less complex/difficult as you have more options readily available. This is particularly evident with collecting materials, but I wouldn't be so concerned about that. A very low skilled forager can team up with a higher player and assist them in collection of materials and get up to speed quickly.
On the flip side of the open-endedness coin, games like WOW start you off and become narrower as you play; to the point at which the gameplay is strictly one-dimensional. SOR may seem start off one-dimensional (not really, just making an analogy here) but opens up into four dimensions a bit later.
Don't be afraid to shout on the /u universal chat, as it is a worldwide help channel where you can talk to us mainland folks from the newbie starting area.
It took me a couple hours of playing stretched over a couple evenings to really grasp stuff, but I'm glad I stuck with it as the game really has no equal; and that is a good thing.
While you download the client check out these couple videos, the first one is really popular, second one has a low framerate on capture, but still has some interesting things. It is all actual gameplay stuff, just with interface switched off (shift+f5 I believe.):

I've downloaded the client. On the few occasions it has made it all the way through its file check, it then quits for no explicable reason.
There is probably a way to fix this.
Before you share it with me, please note: I don't care what it is.
If more of us would refuse to dump monthly fees into half-baked, barely-beta-tested MMORPGs, guess what? The quality will improve.
I'll get back to Ryzom in a year or so.
In the mean time, I've downloaded DDO's trial. There is a sound .dat file that won't unzip correctly. From forums I've found, this has happened to hundreds of players since DDO's beta -- and I've yet to find a post from the devs explaining how to fix or work around it.
Sorry DDO, no money for you this year either.
I've also downloaded the WoW client. Guess what: works fine. Thanks WoW, I'll be activating my account tomorrow -- as should a lot of people -- to show the developers who give a damn whether or not their games are up and running that they will be more fortunate in the market than those who do not.
hihihi
Well, I'll agree with you on a few things
Thanks WoW! -But not really for the same reasons you state. I think I'm not gonna say why I'm thanking them as that will be quite rude.
Don't waste your money on silly and bugged things! -I'll never ever spend money on WoW
Also I'd like to say that I will with great pleasure delete my WoW folder, now that my free trial has ended, it's not a game I wish to play, I can live with the bugs it has, I can live with the sucky comunity, but I'm not gonna bother sitting around paying for being bored, I should think that they could improve the game a whole lot more, so much they must earn for all those paying players.... I'm not saying there isn't things to be liked, but it's a bit too.. well yeah, not my style, I'll go play FPS instead, it's the same thing to me
Then If you go have a look at Ryzom (or not it seems) you will see dedicated lil Nevrax working their arses of (I hope) to improve the game, and with a Customer support that'll actually help you untill the problem is fixed, the times something has been wrong, it has been on my side of the stuff, not Ryzoms side
The one ticket I submited in WoW was just a known bug and I had to live with it from what I heard I was lucky to even get a reply ^_^
But go ahead, join the masses in WoW and see ya again in a year then, hope you've grown older and wiser by then *kindly bows in your general direction*
*hugs from lil me*
*Brain down for upgrade, don't try to understand my logic, I don't...*
