EVE going from 8.3 to 6.5...just a little curious

EVE is a game both my wife and I both play and we were please to see it go to the 8.3 range as well as many magazines starting to rcognize this mmorpg as a decent game and gamestop giving it graphics of the year awrd.
However, I was just wondering if there was a better way to handle this "ranking issue" rather than knocking it back down to 6.5.
True enough, it is wrong for EVE fans to rate all other mmorpgs at 1.0. However, couldn't you just erase the ones who voted eve and then voted another mmorpg at 1?
It just doesnt seem fair for mmorpg to knock it down so low. I mean, if people voted that high why knock it back so far? Just take out the "1" scores they gave the other mmorpgs.
The reason why I saw this is because when I rated the game, EVE was 7.3 before the Ranking systems knocked it to #1. Now its lower than it was before the fiasco.
Just doesnt seem right to kock it down so far after people rated it. You guys say you are taking out those who rated the game who only came in once.....but, to be honest guys, how many people rate all the other mmorpgs in here as brand new people? I know I did 4 months ago.
Like I said, I do agree that it is a problem for EVE fans rating all other mmorpgs at "1"....but, at the same time, its a little unfair to whipe out all the ratings the EVE fans gave it. If so many people came in to give it such high ratings (even if someone did say "help" support EVE in mmorpg.com) why take it out? Just take out all the "1"s that those EVE fans gave the other mmorpgs.

The main reason for this i belive is eve fans inflated there own game aswell, 10 in every damn section.
This may be there dream but it certianly is not a reality the game deserved many of it's bad reviews which we canceled out by reviews like this "eve rocks 10 10 10 10 10".

However, I wonder how many of the other games were done like that? I'm just curious to see how SWG fairs if the MODs here elimnated all the 1's and all the 10's scores. Kinda curious about that (since probably about 75% of everyone who rated SWG probably either gave it straight 1's or straight 10's)
I just think if the MOD's did eliminate all the straight 10's, then do it with all the other games as well. I don't think EVE is the first mmorpg that had that problem.

I gave EVE a 10 in every category as it is the best game I have ever played. If I found a better game I would change EVE's rating and then make my new favorite game 10 in every category.
You guys are really biased and unfair by doing this to only one MMORPG especially since a lot of people gave EVE a bad rating in retaliation. I really think you guys need to adopt a policy that is across the board and not single out one game. It reeks of bias and favoritism.
You're absolutely right. I guess voting 10 for one game and 1 for all other games doesn't reek of bias and favoritism, right?
The way you've rated eve is a perfect example of my point. I dislike the reasoning for the 10 as just being "it's my favourite game", my favourite game is Dransik and I would not give it a 4.
You have to think about it logically, did it really deserve a 10 in all of the categories, are the graphics that good is the gameplay that spectacular. As I said my favourite game wouldn't deserve a 4 but it's still my favourite.
One of the reasons why I never trust player polls. I've seen way too many of "Lets go to MMORPG.com and vote *insert game name here* to be #1." or "Let's go to MPOGD.com and vote *insert game name here* to be #1."
You can never get an honest review from a fan.
Let me clear some things up here
We did not focus our cleanup on "EVE". We purged the database of ALL reviews that were placed by users that met the following conditions:
1) The user had logged into this site 2 or less days
2) The user placed an "extreme" vote, like all 10s or all 1's
This not only changed the rating for EVE, but MANY games. WWII Online fell from a high rank down to a 6.5 or something...lots of things changed.
EVE saw a massive drop because over 50% of its ratings fit the above requirements...and we all know why. I just wanted to make it clear that this was not a "witch hunt" against EVE...or any specific title. You people should really read our news release before attacking us for something we did not do

But this is not helped by the fact those game websites often ask users to go to mpogd and mmorpg to vote for there game and generally they mean by vote get it on top.
I have the same problem with public reviews, but that is why I believe certain players should be picked to do private reviews of more substance.
The main reason that EVE's rating has dropped considerably is because a small group of people constantly created new IDs and such for the sole purpose of inflating EVE's score. Below is the Admin's post, which further clarifies this issue with not just EVE, but several other MMORPG titles.
We hope that these new rules will meet a balance of not being too restrictive while enabling us to have accurate ratings. As always, we encourage and welcome your comments.
The main purpose of these changes was to prevent several abuses of the rating system. We should all see a much fairer rating system. Does this mean you cannot give your favorite game all 10's because you feel it deserves that ranking? No, you can give your favorite game all 10's if you think it deserves it as long as you are an active member (your rank is 5 or higher, which is insanely easy to get) and you've logged on more then 3 times (this really isn't hard either, if you have enough time to rate something, you likely have enough time to log on at least three times!).
I for one, am in total favor of this new system and am glad to see the change happen

Good call on implementing some changes to the ranking system. I was led here from Eve board, and since registered since I thought it looked like a pretty cool site. Was like "WTF? How childish is this?" with the people clamouring to get Eve on top. Hope these few people didn't leave a (too) bad impression on the, on the whole, great Eve community, and the game. The ranking IS insanely low as it stands now.
I will definitely do a review some day in the future, and it will not just be a "Eve r0x!" or "Eve suxxxx" kind of thing. It will give pretty good scores though, since I haven't yet encountered a MMORPG of the same scope, fun, beauty and playability that Eve currently supplies.
Yeah this 6.5 that has been given to eve is not really realistic.
Ofcourse i love eve and that is why i defend it. But when i compare DAOC and EVE well those 2 will defeatnely get very close. They are both good games.
Somehow i think you guys messed up with the ranking system cause this simply aint realistic.
The castor patch really made eve into a no.1 game and if you wanna clean up eve why don't you just remove ALL votes and restart the ranking?. Eve isn't what is was 3 months ago. Eve is better

havent you noticed before when 1 game raises sky-high, and all the others drop.
it happen many times before so i think ratings because of these ppls cant be taken seriously. But if you read real players NORMAL comments then you can get a good picture about the games you are interested in.

Well, I think EVE is a great game too. However, I can be realistic and see that the average MMORPG player will choose DAOC or FFXI over EVE...just because they are more "mainstream". There is little I can do about this...these games are just more liked.
Perhaps in time the ratings will change. But I think most people would find the fact that EVE had 50% of it's votes at perfect 10 was not really "realistic" - and I don't think there is any MMORPG out there right now that has even earned a 9, let alone a 10
We are still going to work on ratings some more. I really want to add features to make is easy to report offensive ratings and allow people to rate the quality of anothers review. Then we can add more "weight" to reviews from reviewers that the community feels are "respectable".

So, basically, its doesn't count when people log onto mmorpg.com for the first time and then rate their favorite mmorpg?
That's what it sounds like to me.
I have no porblems with you guys erasing all the people who voted 1s and 10s (as I would do that too), however, it's just not right to take away new visitor (2 days or less) post.
How many people who log onto mmorpg.com to vote on their favorite game actually stay here and chat a awhile?
Plus, I do see your point about those logging in with fake alternitive names to vote again. But there's got to be a fairer way

A new visitor to MMORPG.COM can't place a rating straight away. They are given a message telling them they need a rank of at least 5 and a link to our FAQ to explain our rating system.
This is the ONLY way to stop the fan sites from linking thousands of people to us to mass-vote a game. Requiring these people to hang around a few days will likely week out the "fanboys".
Note that the purging of 10 and 1 votes will only be a one-time event (I hope). Users that meet the new requirements can rate games any score they wish...but I am hoping that the new rules will bring a more honest group of reviewers.

that is so true the pvp part is soo bugged wen i played....and more over npc killing was soo shit u didnt get anything from there only way u cud get anything was to do agent missions which were boring so if u wanted success in this game get 2 accounts mine wit one and carry cargo wit otehr one and do missions

(you may wanna look up what beta testing is....its to test drive the game to find the bugs, exploits, and what is lame and what is good)
Play the game first and then say it sucks. I have nothing against people saying a game sucks, but when they come in saying "yeah, man, I played Beta, and it sucks" thats sorta like saying, "I wont travel in a plane because the Wright Brother's plane flew worth crap."
Dont boast or bash a game just because you were in Beta; it really doesnt give you any creadibility
