Yes! Finally a WoW vs EQ2 topic!

I don't much care for WoW or EQ2, for different reasons for each game. That being said, overall, I enjoyed the time I spent playing WoW a lot more than the time I tried to force myself to like EQ2.

Both fail. My favorite MMO is MySpace. I'm a level 23 bulletin poll spam whore.

Guild Wars is still an MMO.

I played EQ2 when it first came out. And yes I understand an MMORPG is about grouping, yet I no longer found EQ2 fun when I could no longer solo.

WoW allowed me to solo, if I wanted, all the way to 60. That doesn't mean I always played alone, but it did mean when I couldn't find anyone to group with, that I could keep playing instead of logging off.

It's been a while since I first played EQ2, you may find soloing much easier now.

I like both Wow and EQ2.  I've played EQ2 for much longer.  I think it has lasting appeal, at least for me, because of the fantastic RP community on my server, and because of the constant updates and content additions.

EQ2 is much better for grouping and that is how I like to play.  When I want to play solo, I usually play a single player game.  I was able to solo in WoW, and often preferred to because of the less than terrific community of players on the servers I tried.

Both mmorps have good and bad qualities, it is up to you which ones you prefer.  My opinion is that Everquest II is the better game, but how can you argue with over 5 million players who think otherwise?

EQ2 has changed severely since the release, at release I much like you guys did not enjoy playing the game but i recently re-subscribed and boy I gotta tell you... I am loving it, here are some reasons why.

    Great graphics
    Good attacking animations
    Friendly Community
    Enjoyable quests
    Solo-ability
    Classes are relatively balanced

May not be 20 reasons but still I think if your computer can handle it you should give EQ2 another go, and if it doesn't work out you still only paid like 15 bucks, that's less than it costs to go to a movie and get popcorn/candy/beverage ONCE lol!

I really cant understand why ppls think that EQ2 has good graphics. Many Polygons, high particles effect and whatnot doesnt make it look great. I was very disapointed about the graphic in EQ2 it seems that like the air, ground etc. just doesnt fit together also the movement animations of charakters are just horrible. Only things i really liked from the graphic perspective were the animations of Magic Spells ....

I really cant describe it what I mean but yea graphics arent good in EQ2, reminds me a bit of the old Sierra Adventure games *sigh ....

I personally prefer EQ2's graphics (particulary the new SOGA models), lore, community, complex crafting, skillset, gear, fighting animations and players that actually roleplay.  And I love the player housing in EQ2.

In WOW I enjoy the simple interface, the funny racial dances/sounds/jokes they'd programmed in, the non-intimidating world, the simplicity of gameplay, the unique races and the bright colors of the world.

I personally enjoy the quests in both games.  I was not fond of the PvP in WOW, although I am considering trying EQ2 again now that it has some PvP.

If you can afford it, why not play both games?  They satisfy different game urges, if you ask me.

First let me say this made me LOL so hard my chest hurts thanks for posting that ::::01::

Second I wanted to say that I personally hate wow's and eq's end game raiding so both games are bad in my opinion.

There are few things WOW does better than EQ2 ,

and EQ2 also had a real bad start , but it changed so much from than it is not the same game anymore ( Now it is perfectly possible to solo , ruthless PvP servers added , class have been reworked...etc)

Community in EQ2 is also much much better , and since EQ2 still greatly encourages grouping it has more MMO feeling than WOW that actually feels more like solo game with other toons running around.

That being said , i feel EQ2 graphics is total mess - it is too heavy on your hardware - and artisticaly it is very bland although it is very realistic and not at all cartoonish style of WOW

Other than that - they are probably two most similar MMOs on  the market

They're both very good games, and honestly, they're so much alike that if you REALLY just can't stand one, you most likely won't like the other.  It all comes down to whichever world you like more and which graphics you like more.

Me personally, I play EQ2.  I started with EQ2, quick after a year, went to WoW, left that, came back to EQ2, left, came back, left, came back, and that's where I am now.  I think I'm back to stay this time.  I'm really having a lot of fun again, and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that many of the people who I used to play with are back. I just can't get enough of the game again.

Basically, the games are so similar at this point, it's just best to just pick the one you personally like best or the one you know the most people in and stick with it.  The EQ2 vs. WoW debate has been beaten to death by now, and it always just comes down to personal preference.

I recently re-subd to EQ2 after a 6 month break. I was bored with it again after only 3 weeks

So I re-subd to WoW, it was allmost a year since I had played it. Bored within 2 weeks

They are both very profesional, well polished, good looking games with vibrant comunities and lots of stuff to do.
They are also both as mediocre and bland as hell.

I would say go for EQ2.
At least the crafting is complex enough to need some thought and there are less total losers playing at the weekends.

    Good luck

good job you hit to dead on. I have played both and found that I am more of a EQ2 fan I feel that eq2 has more of an end game then wow does. and the trade skills are alot better.

  • ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077

EQ2 is better than WoW on so many levels it's not even worth trying to list them.  WOW is a good game.  EQ2 WAS a bad game.  But in the time since it's release EQ2 has done a 180 and improved 100000%.  WoW has done um... wait.... oh yeah ... nope not that either...well.... WoW has ummm oh yeah... they're releasing an expansion sometime in the "soon" category.  Meanwhile EQ2 has had 4, a complete overhaul of the combat system, new PVP servers, etc....

EQ2 is just a better game and SOE, much as I hate to give them props, has done a great job of re-working the game into something worth playing.  I don't subscribe but if I had to pick between EQ2 or WoW the decision would be an easy one.

(But there are better options than either game out there )

    Two different games:

    WoW- low system requirements
    -questcentric to 60
    -everyone can pvp via battlegrounds
    -instances for grouping
    -Blizzard gameplay
    -great for solo 1-60
    -lack of depth
    -Not as group-centric as EQ2.
    -cartoonish graphics.
    -simple and easy tradeskills
-game focused around game and fun more than 'rpg'.

    EQ2-
    -high system requirements
-much more and diverse classes and races than WoW
-gameplay is a bit more sophisticated.
    -group-centric but can also solo.
    -voice acting
    -more sophisticated tradeskills
    -also questcentric
-more realistic graphics but also maybe seen as lacking in style.
-You lose exp when you die.

Out of the two evils I would say I preferred WoW, but EQ2 seems to gain its fans.

EQ2 would be good but it lags A LOT. I have uber computer but it still lags in cities, even tho no one else is near me.

WoW... Full of n00bs, its the first MMO many play (after Runescape ) Hard to get rid of leeroys.

Neither are best and I wont touch them again.
