Trying out games more than a few times

BrianshoBriansho Member UncommonPosts: 3,586
Is it just me or does anyone else ever go back to a game to give it another try?
It seems like the more I read here the more I want to go back to games I've tried. I'm starting to get an itch for EVE and Ryzom again and I have a feeling I will be downloading and trying them out again.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Yeah it happens all the time. Mostly not with mmos for my sake. I just look at my grand collection of games recently, and it had the urge to play them all again... well most of them

I always try to give the games a good try through before deciding if I like it or not.  Even SWG, I went back to it to give the free NGE a whirl.  But I will not pay to play a game a second time if I hated it the first and nothing had been done to change it.

Anyone who doesn't go back to try games again, especially if they liked them "except" for something, is foolish :)  I always go back and re-try games periodically.  Generally only on free trials... but occasionally I'll re-sub as well.  If I hadn't done that I'd never have known how much EQ2 has improved.  I'm still not willing to fork over money to SOE to play it but it is definitely one of the best MMO's on the market since all the changes they've done to it.  Not exactly what I'm looking for because I prefer sandbox MMO's but it's very well done.   And if I hadn't tried DAOC again I wouldn't have known that the graphics had been improved so much over the years... I even resubbed for several months recently....

Bottom line:  It's worth going back for another look later in the life of an MMORPG... they generally improve over time (with the notable exception of SWG which just kept going downhill except for a few brief shining moments when SOE & LEC stumbled across a clue now and then).

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

I have gone back to two games after cancelling. The reason why I cancelled was not that that suddenly became bad, but quite simply I played them alot so they became boring. After I took a break, when I went back to them I had a renewed interest.

I always wonder how long games would last if players like myself didn't plow through them. :)

I've left and come back with a few games, especially SWG, MxO, EQ2, WoW. I think I did 4 or 5 quits with SWG... had separation anxiety with that one I think???

Anyways, I think it's a good thing. MMO's tend to change quite a bit over short and long periods of time, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Giving any game a second chance, or third/fourth, can often provide a positive experience if the game changed in the direction you would have liked it to go in the first place.

I too have gone back to several games and did the free trials or have re-subbed but all in all they just become boring again. I may the only one here but I find EVE just completely boring. I'm probably the only one that feels this.

SWG was really a gem when it shined before the NGE and I loved it. It's really a shame what happened to it. I recently went back to SWG to try the NGE once again and I played for about 3 days and gave it up again. Pity. I played EQ2 on the PVP servers and that was extremely fun for a while, but yet again it got boring with the grinding to keep up the levels with the rest of the guild I was in. Eventually I got bored of the grind. The PVP action was pretty good though.

There really isn't a MMO that's released that really stands out. In fact the only upcoming MMO's that really have my interest is Vanguard, Age of Conan, and Star Trek Online (if they do it right).

Roma Victor = do not pass go, do not collect $200.
WAR = keep going, nothing to see here
Gods and Heroes = don't know too much about this one, but I'm kinda sick of the Roman Empire.
Chronicles of Spellborn = yet another clone that doesn't really have any juice
Hero Online = gimme a break
Lord of the Rings Online = could be ok but I've heard some bad things about it

Korean MMO's = no offense to Asians but some of these guys really need to stick to just making console games

I mean seriously. Give us an MMO that really stands out and has some variety. I miss the old UO and EQ1 days.

Yea, happens to me with some games, like MapleStory. I tried it, I didn't like it, now i tried it again, and I like it better!

man I constantly do this.  If its one thing I have learned, its never become loyal to a game.  Not because I've been burned by games I've played, but because right now there are choices.  I dont have to stick with a game and beat it to death until Im sick of it.

I always cancel subs, resub, buy new subs.  I change my subscriptions about every 2 months.  Granted, it makes it hard to get into a solid clan/guild.. but I always manage to get into one for a bit.  Ive made a lot of friends this way also when logging back in.

so, for consumer sake, dont just stick to one game. Dont have the mindset that a game company owes you something, because they designed their world and you're just playing in it. Dont think just because you cancelled means you have to give away your stuff.  Above all, if you ever do cancel a game.. dont give anything away no matter how jaded you are against ever returning.

play games to enjoy them and try them all!  I really feel for these loyal fans of games that get so stressed out when things dont go their way and boycott companies.  lifes too big to get into video game drama, have fun with it.. but dont expect them to be loyal to you.  this is why you should really cancel subs, try something else.. return if you want.  I feel it removes you from a lot of fanboism's that we see every day when we dont dedicate ourselves so much to one thing
