I had fun playing WoW until I got to the higher levels...

In GW the fun really just starts when you hit max level. (Though the 20 levels are heaps of fun too, they don't take that long)

Well what bored you at the higher levels?

    Edit: of WoW

Yes! Finally a GW vs WoW topic!

  • hadzhadz Member Posts: 712

It's not that I got bored with WoW...it just stopped being fun. The feeling of doing the same thing over and over again (some may call it grind, though I wasn't "grinding" for xp as such) with the exact same tools (ie. spells and skills never changed, just got upgraded) eventually made me quit for new experiences. I went back once or twice, but very rapidly the same feeling set in.

With GW, if I tire of a certain playstyle I can just switch up a few skills (within a class) and get an almost totally different feel to the gameplay. (Well, on nearly all of the classes, Warrior may be the exception)

Well have you ever tried end-game?

~I survived Eon8 and all I got was this crappy sig...

From what I've heard end-game is nothing more than raiding instances. Which I'm even less a fan of than "grinding".

My main "hooks" for playing an MMO are storyline (ie quests and missions) and unique, fun and various, amounts of skills. I suppose that's why I like GW 'cause it has all that and more. Plus I don't feel like I'm chucking money down the drain if I don't play it for 2 weeks.

I'm at the point where I'm simply frustrated with the redundancy of this sort of post... Stop making posts like this and give us something we can actually talk about.

    Hey, VG!

Here's another one of these type of posts that we were discussing on the other thread.....

Not exactly the one that I mentioned, but another one that is asked probably at least once or twice a month.

Before posting to a forum it is generally accepted etiquette to read historic posts and become familiar with what is being discussed, and what is not generally accepted (meaning over-posted).

At one time, if you look back far enough, I actually had a mini-FAQ posted that discussed the general etiquette of a section/forum.

    This is for several reasons:
    1) Knowing what gets people flamed (especially posting the same topic over and over) will prevent it from happening to the global "you."
    2) You will see the kind of things that are already answered, such as the "GW a MMORPG?" and "WoW/EQ vs GW" posts that happen at least once a month, if not more.
    3) You will get the idea of the people who regularly post here, and the "accepted" way to post a question.
    4) READ all recent posts.  This includes the first couple of pages.  See if your questions/post had ALREADY been asked. If it has, read that thread.  If it still doesn't answer your question, reply in that thread, don't start a new one or it'll just look like they are being lazy and get them flamed.  At least if you reply to a pre-existing topic with a response that indicates you have read what is there, will get you a more polite and thorough answer.  If we have to answer the same question over and over and over, we'll feel like no one actually reads what we write, and will therefore start the flaming a lot quicker.

Guess I'm gonna have to try and dig up that post again, as it seems the topics that were being discussed in beta and early release (all the way up to now) are still be posted regularly.  At least it seemed to help the flamers (of which I was included now and then) because then the person would have no excuse short of being too lazy to read a thread.

In the end? Although World of Warcraft was more fun, It was limited post 60 on what I can do. Unlike Guild Wars the PvP aspect of the game is too overpowering. Players who do nothing but raids and give their lives to that game butcher anyone whom cannot in PVP.

World of Warcraft is a prettier and easier to max level version of EverQuest hands down.

Guild Wars is now an easier than before Diablo 3D wannabe with beutiful graphics (too realistic for my tastes) that you can enjoy even post 20. (still have tons of quests to do haven't finished story and I can hit Krytia anytime I want now for more fun not to mention a far more balanced PvP end game than WoW.)

WoW is for Raiders or first time casual WoW players.

Guild Wars is for casual players and/or PvPers.

    My 2 cents.

Realmreaver formally of EQ, SWG, FFXI and WoW.

Some named of Diablo 1 and 2 =)

I just like to thank you for putting this post on. I've played WoW for a long long time. It became just more than a game and in WoW, if you don't play a lot, you're nothing cuz you won't be able to have access to the the good gear. Theres a lot of competition too in WoW which I was tired of. I just didn't know what to do, I don't have the time I had before and I want to have a life too(WoW players knows what I mean...hehe). So I was tryin to find out which game could suit me best, and I find it thanks to this post. Thanks a lot and see you inside GW guys!

Gotta say that is the first time I've ever heard anyone say the graphics were "too realistic"  I don't know whether that is a good thing or a knock against the game?  Most people demand better graphics.  If I wanted a really comic-book look I'd go play the N64, Sega, or something like that.....

That's the beauty of GW.... it allows you to have control of you PvP.  You don't have to hunt down the latest piece of uber 1337 armor, and run around bragging about how cool you are because you have it.  This game requires skill and strategy more than anything.  That's part of what makes it un-MMORPGish.  You don't just run around grinding for the best armor/weapons and then pwn everyone with it.  Everyone in GW is on the same level... every warrior has the same armor, every ranger.  The strategy is trying to find the right skills to complement the group and plan out the battle.  With only 8 skills you can pick out of over 100-some-odd, it takes good pre-planning to even stand a good chance at PvP.

I could play the game for 2 weeks and beat people that have been playing it for months or since release.  You'll almost never find that in a WoW/EQ/AC/SWG-esque game.

    i played wow

it was fun til level 60 after level 60 you have to go in huge 40 man groups to get anything good

    i played gw

gw has better pvp is more balanced

pvp on wow sucked cause you have to wait for hours to get into battlegrounds

on gw you get a pvp battle in about 30 seconds
