FFXI In my opinion is the worst game ever and here is why.
First off some of the cool jobs you can play in this game become a lost cause at around 50+. Monk for example was a cool job to me they have cool artifact they are really strong but when I was level 36 I had to wait 8 hours and I still did not get a party.
You can not PVP until level 30 and you get rank3 and then you still have to pay for it and wait until there is a freaking 30 cap ballista.
Everything in the game is exactly the same until 30 there is no new armor or weapons that people use until 30. The warriors use scale the mages dress in robes and the noobs dress in level one rse and you wont see everyone in the group useing different armor then the person beside them until lvl30 basically. I sit in the dunes wait for a group in brown metal armor with the most plain area I have ever seen a game have sand with walls a couple of beaches and goblins scatterd throughout the place.
The game is challenging I can get on for an hour and wont accomplish anything. especially at 60+ you have to dedicate around 8hours of your day to get some exp and you aren't guranteed to level.
When you do get a group it's almost like your either sitting there waiting for more members or your sitting in a group where someone always says brb which halts the exp for 5mins and then maybe someone will say "guys find me a replacement im leaveing in 10mins". When someone does leave there is about a 50% chance of another person getting fed up and log off or whatever. When 2 people leave a group forget it no one is going to dedicate there time to rebuild the group because they are a whm or a rank10 paladin and can get a group with the snap of their fingers and are so conceded they can't help out the dragoons and monks of the party who find those jobs fun but have to wait longer than them to have a group.
No soloing 10+ such a stupid system you should at least have the option to solo but no.
Low level partys. They are the worst you either have a party leader who wants to build it asap and has 3 warriors a whm and a couple of monks or what have you then a warrior has to pull with voke makeing the main tank have to work to get hate with no magical damage or dd the fight takes awile and when the whm mp is gone you must sit and watch everyone die unless your 2HOUR ability is ready then maybe that will save them. When someone dies in a low level party you have to wait for them to get a raise since they are to fucking retarded and want to save them selves time later to just blood port to there hp they wont set their hp 2 feet away. I can go on forever here but I wont.
FFXI is hacked to hell you have people who have created hacks for this game so no legit player can get a notorious monster they have hacks that automatically teleport you to the nm and auto provoke it and even if you see a hacker do this you call a GM and what do they say? "We will look into the matter" but the hacker still roams free. You have programs that auto fish for you but a legit player has to catch fake fish and sit there for hours just to make your gil. You have hacks that allow your 2hour to be a 1minute. You have hacks that allow you to run at hyper speed and a legit player has to run at normal speed and die when a goblin aggros them.
Crafting is horrible first off you must have enough money to start crafting and if you finally get enough gil to craft you fail you crafts loseing some of the items your useing imagine crafting something and useing millions of gil in items and you lose that in 10 seconds. Sometimes half the items you need are not in the auction house so you must stop crafting until those items are in. It just takes longer and longer as the system goes on.
It seems like you can't do anything in this game until your 60 and even then you have to find the linkshell for everything if you wanna do dynamis you gotta have a dynamis linkshell if you wanna fight hnms your probably gonna want a hnm linkshell it seems like everything is seperate.
The economy is screwed up because everyone buys gil and even though I have never bought gil I would now recomend it. The only reason im saying this is because you can spend about 40 hours at lets say level50 to get maybe 4mil in gil unless your really good at competeing against programs that can claim a monster 5 seconds before it even spawns. Instead you could take that 40 hours invest it in a job and buy like 20mil in gil.I always thought tradeing real money for fake is stupid but now I think spending 40 hours in a game to make some cash is stupid and just buying 4times that with real cash that took the same amount of time is alot smarter.
When I played in the summer this game was the most fun I ever had but when it came around August and I had school getting on was a lost cause because I could get nothing done.
A game should be something you can go to releive your stress and have fun ffxi turns it into a job where you can go to obtain stress it's just not worth it.
The list goes on I have played ffxi since 2003 and I just got pissed off with it I do not recomend this game if anyone wants to debate me by saying "well they do have this and this and they are takeing care of hackers daily" go right ahead im here.

At the end of the day no one is going to agree with each other. There will always be poeple that do like a game you dont and visa versa.
One thing you have to think about...could you really do any better?
Well square enix has been makeing games for about 16 years correct me if im wrong and if they have been they should be able to do better. I know I could not but I sure as hell could give them some ideas to make it alot better.
If you basically have the time i'm sure this would be perfect for you but if you have to go to school come fall or have a job you want to concentrate on I wouldn't recomend it.
Don't let what I say stop you from starting it but come back in a few months when your level 40 or so and tell me what you think tell me if you have found what I said right or wrong.
The fact that Sqauresoft has been making games for so long doesnt matter - as far as i am aware this is there first MMO, so they are bound to make some features that players dont like.
Go play WoW.
If you want to work hard for your rewards, play FFXI, nuff said.
All I can say is you must have played a different FFXI than I do. Of the things you have complained about that I have personal knowledge of, they are either not true, not relevant or not nearly as bad as have painted it.

As a fan of the game I would like to disagree with you on all of your points, but i cannot. I play drk, which I love but because of the flood of dd calsses it is sometimes difficult to find a party. I tried solo able classes like BST and it did nothing for me. I do enjoy the party aspect of the game, but getting stuck in an area where you cannot possibley solo play anything while you have your flag up can be a huge pain.
I have played alot of "time friendly" mmo's and to me they are just like regular video games. I think this mmo is amazing, I take the good with the bad, but I can see where it can get frustrating, I quit and came back twice. Saying it is the worst game ever, yet having hit level 60/30 seems like an interesting statement to me, that;s like at least 3 weeks of playing time as in 504 hrs in game. that is a long time to play the "worst game ever"
to the op uve been playing since 2003 n ure complaining about pre30? lol havent gotten very far have you rofl. The part about hacking i have yet to see someone hacking and i specifically camp nm's every other week. so stop ure whining
I do have to say that you do need to have a bunch of free time to play it and the other things.. hacking never saw it... waiting to get in a party? Make your own and it's way faster and besides if your to annoyed waiting get a life and get off the computer and read a book or make a sandwich and when you get invited start playing the world was ment to multi task i soloed to 17 or 18 with my white mage while chatting with my linkshell... yiou just have to go to the right spot that's all... another thing if your so angry about having to work to get better stuff get a job that only really needs one good thing like for instance a mage where really the only nessicary thing is a decent wand... i played during school while having about 3 or 4 EC stuff afterwards and you only really need to spend about 2 hours a day on it to get something done...
final thing if you quit the game in 2003 why are you ranting about it 3 YEARS LATER!?!? makes no sense to me.
FF XI is one of the games that can be very depressive.
Well that's because you're DRK. That job sucks.
I'm a 75MNK and I never had to wait more than 2 hours for a party, except probably levels 50-60, where it would go up to like.. 4 hours.
If it took too long I'd make my own party. A perfectly viable choice. If you dont want to work for getting a party, why should you have one?
Maybe you diddnt get invites because you were bad and people remembered that and said "Nah dont invite that guy, he's gimp."
Ever think of that one?
You feel as if you actually did something in the game.
Sure the game is one of those games that makes you wait for things to happen, but when they do you feel proud of what you have achieved.
The people who make these threads, you for example.
You just don't see what YOU want to see in the game.
It's a good game, hell WoW is a good game, and I'm a Final Fantasy XI player.
I'm not going to go to their forums just because something didn't go right in the game for me, so I get pissed off and go right a thread "This game sucks".
If the game isn't following your exact taste now days, just leave, don't come to our forums complaining.

Im pretty sure I wasn't gimp on my monk with my o kotes +1 gear and snipers rings in my bazaar for when i reach the lvl to use them. Still 8 hour invites.
I'm pretty sure the forum has rooms for opinions so don't say it doesn't I didn't say don't play it I just said why I don't play. I know if we found a couple of veterans that actually played the game before the release of the xbox360 beta who quit they would tell you the same thing.
I do agree I loved the game when I first played but if they would just add a little fun content for the begging of the game instead of putting 500 fun things that only level 75's can do XD thats one reason I liked wow I think the game can be improved but thats just my opinion. I think everyone here can admit this game can do something that could improve it greatly over other games.
