Yup, that´s how it is. DDO, while beeing by far not the worst game I have played, just doesn´t honour it´s own franchise, and people who grew up with the pen&paper tend to be VERY touchy about it. When compared to the richness of the D&D universe, the game is just restrictive and..well, empty. The rules are watered down, all the traditional freedoms of Roleplay are beeing quenched in a shortsighted, out-of-the-box concept that lacks the grandeur such a title deserves.

See, it´s not that people HATE the game (if you want to see HATE, check the Dark&Light forum ), it´s that the game let us down. We came to expect more. Old Neverwinter players will agree with me that there is no reason whatsoever to pay a monthly fee for DDO when we can play far better NWN scenarios for free.

What's worst of all is, they have the exclusive rights to the MMO version of D&D. Bad enough they kicked out this  content starved hunk of mediocrity, but by doing so they deny anyone else the opportunity to do it right.

NWN2 will support upwards of 100 people online at a time.  :)  I'm REALLY looking forward to it.  Both as a DM and as a player.  I love NWN and NWN2 has me salivating.  Hopefully it comes out before the 14th so I can ask my wife to get it for my birthday.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

I just created my forum account so I could warn people not to waste their money on this game. The lag is horrendous and the graphics are extremely poor. I can play real time shooters such as Battlefield 2 at 1280 by 1024 with very little lag on my system. Not Dungeons and Dragons, couldn't get the screen resolution past 1024 by 768 without the game being unplayable. Plus the graphics and text are so poor they obviously aren't being rendered at that resolution they look little better than VGA graphics.

I have a fast system and a good DSL connection and yet I couldn't run through an almost empty city without my path constantly being reset due to lag. Zoning into dungeons is a joke with the lag involved.  The crucial puzzle test I thought I had to pass to get city access was bugged, and only reloaded with all the pieces in place when I exited and re-entered the instance.

The coding for this game must suck because Everquest, Wow, Everquest II and CoH have far better graphics and run like a 100 times faster.

My advice if you want to play a buggy game, with unbelievable lag and with graphics which look like they are 10 years old then this is the game for you. Otherwise don't waste your money.
