I would come back in a heartbeat if.......

I was talking with some people at work the other day and realized that I would come back and play FFXI in a New York minute if they added via a patch that showed NPCs that provide quests and you can turn quests into like in WoW. I tire quickly of trying to talk to everyone in the game to find out what to do next.

and completely redid the UI, removed lvl down from death, increased regen rate, localized servers( not a deal breaker).

they should make it more care-bear like wow, so all the people who enjoy the game quit and all the people who jump mmo's will play for a week or two before they complain about it being too care-bear and run back crying to wow.

I agree totaly! FF XI could be one of the top MMOs if they'd just do as I say.

Gee, if they made it just like WoW, all the people who play WoW would play it!

SW:G tried that. Don't work so good.

isant the best thing about all these MMOs are that they are different?  hehe if they where all the same then people would buy them, sure squaresoft have made some mistakes and could have improved certain aspects of the game but at the same time WOW could have done alot to improve WOW as well

i suppose it boils down to each others own tastes

FFXI is not noob friendly in anyway and that is not always a bad thing. I like the world, i liked the jobs but everything else i found lacking.

Yeah, but there are macros, so i can customize the hell out of my ui, regardless of what it starts as, I have a frikken macro for everything.  Everyone complains about the ui and I don't see it, I think including the mouse makes for a bulky, uncalonrated ui.

I can see where it is difficult for beginers to get the hang of but after actually spending some time on it it is streamline and efficient.  So, I think everyone who complains about the ffxi ui is a beginner

I did attempt to come back to the game after 8 months of WoW.  It didn't work out too well.  I was hoping the expantion would have breathed new life into the game, it almost worked.  The new areas offer really fast exp, but you still have to have the perfect party set up.  This means if you are a DD class of any kind you can try to start your own party or throw you flag and start playing another game until you get an invite, it's gonna be awhile.  After having my account on for about 2 weeks I turned it back off.  Sad, it was such a good game in the begining.

Actually I think FFXI has one of the best UI's I've seen.
Go play all the old final fantasys. It's the same thing.

Wow, I'm glad I could light a fire with the post.

The leveling down and what not isn't really an issue for me although the regen was a suprise after just standing around and not "resting" the first couple of times.

As for the UI, I liked it, it worked and used a lot of macros back in the day.

It's just the damn quest/missions system that need a MINOR tweak.

I remember gaining 4 levels (28-32) in one day, but I died 6 times....

Care Bears may cry about it, I didn't mind.... be agressive with leveling is key... I damn it I had fun, and death was part of the game.

I left the game because of little kid drama, too many people whining for help... I took a simple step... turned the game off.

Now if they delivered an MMO that allowed you to deliver non-emote slaps.

So, basically you are saying if the game turns into World of Warcraft it will be a lot better?
Yeah right...

Ok, I'll admit, I enjoyed your guy's graphics made in microsoft paint.

IF they added soloing, it wouldn't be a Final Fantasy. Why? Well, name one Final Fantasy that you walked around with only one character for the entire game.
I enjoy the party system, I hate soloing it's so freakin' boring to walk around and not talk to anybody at all for hours on hours.

Oh, so we need a better PvP system in Final Fantasy? Ok, but we'll have to make a rogue class so we have that one class that dominates every other class. Oh their buffed down now eh? Shhhuureeee.

Well, since we're changing this game into the awesome WoW we have to take out all the quests that make you feel like you've actually done something. Oh, don't forget about the endgame, the awesome WoW endgame would fit perfectly. The only thing level 60's are used for endgame are farming and PvP, You can only win the match if you're Rogue, I might add.

Now to make it noob friendly just like WoW, well, let's just make all the 13 year olds who play WoW jump into FFXI, they will make the game a lot easier for those damn newbies! ARG! death to the newbies who don't know how to play!

I have got to be forgetting something, oh yeah!
If you die you lose exp!
....
...
.
B-O-O-H-O-O
::::16:: If you died in Final fantasy you had to restart from your last saved point, no freakin' exp loss.
It gave you a reason to actually stay alive.

Look, I'm tired of typing out crap you wont read, you will just say with all this quoted that I'm crazy and that you're right.

EVERY GAME SHOULD BE LIKE WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!
JUST SAY IT!
Don't go, well, maybe if it had this awesome soloing action that WoW offers, ppl jusssssssssss might play it.
I died cause I taught this game was newbie friendlie.

Alright, you win. Every MMO should be like World of Warcraft.
and with it's awesome soloing action, and the rogue only PvP.

Neptus - FFXI - Pandemonium
Neptus - WoW - Detheroc

Ughhh ffxi has a class that rules it oh so limited pvp and it is called redmage it so fun being slept and bound and nuked the hell out of with spells that take 1min to cast I would rather work with a team in pvp in wow rogues aren't exactly that hard if you know what your doing but you can be the most uber whatever in ffxi and still get pwned by a redmage/ninja at any time or a blackmage.

They could at least add soloing but make it so it is slower than grouping so you still have a reason to group but can still work at leveling while you wait 8hours.

Maybe if they tried and work at that instead of trying to kill all gil sellers/mpkers every month they might have more subscribers dontcya think?

Yea but I guess since square soft is so creative with everything in their game I mean two of the hardest dragons in the game are called ying and yang omg how creative it blows my mind o and a giant dragon called behemoth O.O double the creativity and crabs that look exactly the same that I get to level off of at level 15 and 60 o and crawlers i get to kill at 1 and 35-42 not to mention the mandys I get to kill at lvl1-10 and 25-32 and once again but this time they are black O.O omg what a great game with the most creative content.

What exactly do you think ffxi is end game? I beleive its going through dynamis to get your epics and doing a bunch of missions to get into places so you can kill gods to get drops to sell for gil and split 18 ways also fighting one hnm for hours on end to get a item which you craft to get money. Seems alot like WoW but less pvp hmm I vote wow at least they add a little more creativity to their game and allow you to pvp without waiting and paying to get in one match.

FFXI wasn't built for PVP.

WoW was.

FFXI's jobs are balanced to work well WITH other classes, not against them.

You do know the repeat graphics are because this game was a console game before it came out for PC right? Or did you not do your homework and look that up?

What do you think WoW endgame is? PVP. And doing stupid little raids to get items to make you better in PVP.

If you like WoW so much, go post in their forums, stay out of here.
• Tater122Tater122 Member Posts: 63

Hmm why is it that when a ffxi player sees the stupidity of their game poked at they offer the solution go play wow go to the wow forums last time I checked I was entitled to post on any forum I want.

40 Man raids for a item with new monsters is something I find alot better than 18 man alliances for a item in dynamis with a 50% chance of loseing 2hours worth of exp and I beleive you have to pay 1million gil to get in to dynamis also.

How are the classes balanced and work well with other classes. If you party even has a slightly wrong set up then the exp takes forever or you die. Last time I checked certain there are certain jobs that rule everything end game. The only reason classes are balanced in this game is it has been out for 5 years and they offer a nerf whenever players complain. Everything in the game you have to have money to enjoy includeing pvp if you dont have money your gonna get your ass whooped in ballista with a kraken club weilding redmage/ninja or a ranger or whats always fun is blm sleepga 2 and everyone in your group getting wiped by a aoe doesn't seem to balanced to me.

To add on to all this I got a new computer with a 20 inch monitor and I called customer service for a solution since the graphics were expanded and they don't even offer one. The only way to correct this was to buy a 10$ version of windower which by the way is a third party program which is against the terms of service that I have to use to get the same graphics that everyone else can experience just because square soft isn't up to date on these problems.

I have played on pc and ps2 and I still don't see why they have a lack of names and variety in their monsters do you?

Unfortuneately 40 Mans raid are the only real way to advance your character.   You pay $15 a month to run the same 2 instances, once a week for months and months.   The encounters in that game are a joke.   New instances come out, the first 2 weeks everyone figures out each of the bosses 52 giimicks.

Stand in the corner running counter clockwise while singing the national anthem and jumping through the buring hoop.   Seriously its a fuckin circus or a glorified game of simon says.  Once you know every bosses gimmicks they enocunters are trivialized, placed on farm status, and you are running the same exact thing every week praying their "Random" loot tables grace you.  I am the leader of a guild that was the best guild on the alliance side of my server before we left the game.   We cleared entire black wing lair in 4 weeks from the first day we walked in, to the day Nefarion died, and none of us had ever been in there before past Razorgore.

I don't even know how people can say the game has PvP, its laughable at best.   Anyone who has played a real PvP game knows that its comparable to sesame street.   The PvP gear is hardly even viable and requires a major real life sacrifice to get it.  Raider gear always trumps PvP gear, and that requires having 40 people willing to pay attention for 3-5 hours at a time, to jump through hoops, every week, until the next content patch comes out.

I used to hate this game because of forced grouping, the grind, and difficulty.   After a year and a half of WoW, I came back with an entirely new perspective.  I'd rather only need 5 other people to advance myself then 39.   It's good that people dont have to be pidgeon holed into large power guilds like mine in order to experience content.  Death finally has a sting, like it should.   "Oh NO!  I have to run 20 secs back to the INSTANCE and lose 2 gold in repairs!"   Seriously wtf is that garbage.   Theres no fear of death in WoW. As a result, no thrill of risk, and no satisfaction with victory which is attained easily.  Its the Kindergarten of MMOs.  And the grind?   Hell grinding out thousands of rep, turning in 40,000 scarab shells for AQ, for items that can be trumped by 10 mins of raiding is a joke.  WoW has brought a lot of new people to the genre, and its a polished game for what it is, but I'd wager its a lot of peoples first MMO, and once you graduate kindergarten you'll be looking for something that offers a real challenge, years of real content and quests, and a community that has hit puberty.

End game you are forced into linkshells that have sucess.... If you are not in one of these linkshells and you say hey im gonna go try and fight a hnm with some friends you are going to fail.

There are Hnms that can take 40 man + but the other 22 people just sit on the side and watch until the group fighting dies then they are in while the whitemages are raiseing the people who just died so they can fight when the current group dies. I just see no fun in it especially when it can be the same thing for up to 4hours.

Wow I find fun because I haven't played it long but I have quit it to play ffxi and I am going to cancel my ffxi account because even with the newest expansion everything still requires a high level and chances are im gonna only be playing games once a week here in 6 months because then ill be able to drive. FFXI is a game for adults I will admit because they can put in the time it requires. Wow and ffxi are not perfect and I don't think they will ever make a game that everyone likes.

i came back to FF XI from wow and i doubt i'd ever go back to WoW.

i love the fact that its not an "easy mode" MMO, plus group make-up doesn't matter early on (pre-40). As for endgame differences, I dont know by on-hand experiance. But what keeps me in FF XI is the story progression of the missions. Currently I play a MNK/WAR and i still solo in certain areas with little to no problem (I'm level 30).
End game you are forced into linkshells that have sucess.... If you are not in one of these linkshells and you say hey im gonna go try and fight a hnm with some friends you are going to fail.
ummmm you can be in as many linkshells as you wish,.. you aren't obligated to stick to one shell the entire time you play. Most people I've grouped with carry 2 linkshells with them. One for casual and one for endgame just in case.

Well yeah lots of high levels carry a Hnm a dynamis and whatever linkshell but you can't just go out with a few friends and expect to suceed in it you really need a good linkshell for what your doing
