why play as humans

World Of Warcraft has humans
Ever Quest-Ever Quest 2 has humans
auto assault has humans
Guild Wars has only humans

Your even playing as humans in Real Life (the game that goes on after you turn of your computer) what makes people choose the human race when playing MMORPG's???

Why choose to act and role play something that you have played your whole life?

so the questions is. what makes people choose to play humans.

please help me here and discuss

    I dont play as humans to much, maybe if the other races have nothing better to offer.
    If you ask me, humans shouldnt even be in fantasy or sci-fi games unless it is based off earth or somewhere in earth's future.

    People roleplay all the time in real life at medieval/star trek fairs/conventions for the same reason they roleplay humans in mmorpgs. It's fun. You can roleplay a knight or a theif like you see in the movies or books. Some people find that attractive. Some people want to roleplay the good guys (I did).

    So it's not like a human in real life.

    I think this has been discussed before, but for shits and giggles...

    People play humans because #1 it's all they know. #2 Humans usually get awesome stat buffs. #3 Someone has to do it.

    why not?

    Play the game to have fun, play whatever race strikes your fancy - maybe you like how ugly or pretty they are, maybe you like innate stat or ability bonuses of a given race in conjunction with your playstyle, maybe you don't like the artwork of non-human races,  whatever race it is. Who cares if people play using a human avatar. People who put that much thought into it and actually try to RP races are pretty creepy anyhow..keep roleplaying where it belongs....in the bedroom.

    Im not saying im a maniac role player. i to can say "lol" in a game :)
    i always try to go from anything other then humans. mostly green skinned if possible

    a more important question is, "Why play as elves"

    everybody is fixated on elves, i hate em :P

    I like the big bruiser type characters or any sort of animal bipedal type personally

    Humans in most MMORPGs are not the same human in modern real life. We can not buy a sword and go slaying monsters and become a knight. We can not go out and buy a spell book and start casting huge fireballs. We can not go up to someone and assassinate them from behind like a ninja and be admired for it.

    I personally like to play as a warrior or a mage from the dark ages, and that is a fantasy to me.

    I would be interesting if some mmos, you don't have to be human or a human lookalike.

    I used to do that all the time, but then they uped my medication.

    Why play humans? Because they aren't elves.

    I play as whateva race has the biggest racial advantage toward my
    profession. I will concede that guild wars is linear but there business
    model also orient towads saving money. In EQ2 human is just another
    race, I played a dark elf necro - same situation with wow. I know you may feel jaded towards humans but auto assault & guild wars are low budget games, propper games follow variations of the dnd scenario where humans have medium int and medium con and make them ok for classes like commando.

    When I play a game with different races, usually I pick the one with best looking.

    First RPG I played was NeverWinter Nights. All the other races looked like crap, so I played as human all the way.

    In Lineage 2, elf has the best looking. So I picked elf.

    Yet I played elf for too long. Every other game I tried I always start with elf now lol. Unless they have extremely ugly elf.

    "oooh! i want to see more characters types than human like animal related characters with some animal related characteristics(not human plz) avian, canine, reptilian,amphibious, feline in a fantasy rpg game!! but i will be human and i will be able to slay animals myself!!!"




    actually... it would be nice if there was game like that however... chances of that happening is one in a million.

    I play as a human every once in a while to have a normal me* char.

       I generally play the shortest race, as long as it's not a Halfling. I'd choose Gnomes over Halflings anyday... Anyway, I might check out a "Lizardman" race, but only if it had proper legs. None of that "Human legs" bullshit!  ...Humans are boring.

    More important, at least to me, is why all the humans in MMORPGs white? I thought the draw was adventures in exotic fantasy settings. Yet all the humans seem to be of western European descent. Korean MMOs are a bit different, everyone in those games are asian.

    America is a pretty diverse society, so why are all the humans white and western European in the games we make? How many MMOs have the option of giving a character brown skin with african features? When's the last time you saw a character dressed a middle eastern fashion in an MMO?

    Just an obsevation...

    Guildwars, they have the availability to make your characters black or asian style or whatever. Also, in their newest expansion it is actually based in south africa... So, I hate to say it but you are wrong, you do see that kind of thing

    I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about what race I am, whatever is most benificial for my playstyle / class-choice is the race I choose.
