Auto Assault is merging ALL servers onto one server cluster in North America. This includes all the Euro servers. This is slated to happen on July 13.
From what I heard from some Lithuanians I talked to when I couldn't sleep the Euro servers were pretty empty, so adding the Euro ones doesn't surprise me.
Most players seem to wish it wasn't necessary but believe it is.
An interesting thing with Auto Assault is that probably one of the biggest draws was the world pvp center area designed for inter-faction fighting (called Ground Zero), but due to the spread out population Ground Zero on most servers was not seeing the kind of action that people wanted. It will be interesting to see what happens with the merge for pvp. Also the pvp tournament system suffered due to the low population. Single man torunaments often filled up but 4v4 tournaments often did not.
It is interesting that it seems that one of the problems AA had for its launch was too many servers. I have seen a number of people say they did not go on with the game becasue there were not enough people. Its a strange Catch-22. You get complaints if you don't have enough servers, but you actually fail to obtain as many subscribers if you have too many. Even for a very solo friendly game like AA you seem to need a certain critical mass of players per server. I suppose for any aspiring MMO prfessionals out there this shows just how important anticipating your influx is especailly if you are not a big name. In some ways MMO's remind me of bars and clubs, the place everyone goes is popular because everyone goes there. If a club or bar isn't populated then it sucks, no matter what the price of drinks is. Sorta the same thing with your servers, if you spread people too thin. You can see the same thing in WoW on low pop servers, of course there are way more high pop servers so it doesn't matter.
So now AA will have one large server with, I guess, about 11,000 subscribers on it. It will be interesting to see what kinda difference that makes for things like PvP and gameplay(boss camps, trading, farming, lag etc).

Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL
I'm afraid there might be quite a lot of lag after the merge.
But yeah, this game doesn't deserve death. I like it, I like the different setting, the different kind of fighting and the explosions.
And there is such a lack in decent scifi mmorpgs already.. AA is dying soon after release, AO is steadily going towards it's demise and Tabula Rasa has had more than one or two bumps in it's long road towards completion..
And please, do not mention the horrid RF Online. And after all that game also is soon merging its servers..
It is the exactly the same thing that has happened another MMO called Jumpgate last year.
They merged EU with the US server, while the EU accounts were still intact and got transferred to the US server, then all the EU players sucked up all the resources because they wanted to "fly ships" and the US players used to produce and oh man was it a bad move on netdevil's behalf.
I think Auto Assault's merge was NCsoft's call, not NetDevil's. I think it will work just fine with AA.
