Well, if you join a pvp server like me, (on Venekor) you can level from pvp. This game is actually fast paced and has a really nice crafting system that you cant just go afk and craft a ton of stuff at once while youre gone. Grouping helps and adds to the fun. Some people encourage roleplaying, while others bash it.

Yeah. It is definately NOT world of warcraft. If you are looking for a WOW type game - EQ2 will not satisfy.

    Cool. :)
I hated wow as well.  Everquest II is good.  I played it from release but didn't get too far as I got ill... But it is a good game if you have patience - which you obviously do if you play FFXI :P

Give it a try - try out the trial and if thats OK make sure you find a high population server, and subscribe. But be warned the newbie isle is nothing like the main bulk of the game, it just gives you a good intro.

Basically in everquest - you have your good / evil and there were 4 main classes, bard mage cleric rogue
And good and evil have their own 'mirrors'  - for example the good aligned ppl have a ranger, and the bad have an assasin.  Classes are a little more complex but thats essentially it :) check out eq2players.com

Levelling - EQ2 used to be really sore on solo players, however sony have gone no end in fixing it so you can I believe? have a good time levelling up on your own.  There are lots of quests which are fun to do.  After all it is ever"quest" :)

It is probably a similar pace to wow, but you will feel a sense of achievment with each level.  No more rinse and repeat quest farms.

The good news - if you are a part time gamer, EQ2 have an apprenticeship system, great rested XP system...

I can't say much more I've been away from EQ2 in ages, and won't be resubscribing at the minute,  but that isn't because I hate the game, its just because I only really enjoy playing mmos with ppl I know.  It sucks to log on and have no one to play with.

    Good luck Destro. :)

This statement is pretty bad. WoW is a bad eq1 clone, played it, and my brain retaliated and nearly made me scoop my eyeballs out with a melon baller to keep from having to see it again.

    umm...

    lvling
    crafting
    classes
    other stuff...

    Basic info about the game...

You level up to 70.  You must own the Kingdon of Sky expansion to do so however, but you can get 1-60 with just the normal game.

Their are alternate Advancements Points which begin at level 20 and are pretty much just background entertainment until you start earning enough where they become valuable.  You also need KoS to beable to earn and use these.  They are actualy pretty nice addition to the game.

PvP is not on ever server, only a select few.  PvP areana's however are on all servers (except the PvP servers) and can be alot of fun.

Combat is pretty fun and quick paced and the use of all your abilties is often needed on fights unless you are fighting stuff lower level then you.  Heroic Oppertunities are a brilliant application in the game, but is unfortunatly not given enough attention.  It could be such a wonderful feature in the game, but in it's current status does not detract from any part of the game.

I dont' craft, I dont' care how easy or how much of a hinderance it is...I just find crafting in any game, boring.

The game is fun, I have a blast.  I've played Wow for a while, and just dont' find it as involving or as entertaining.

Death is actually quite meaningless nowadays.

Currently all that you suffer is a small xp debt and your equipment degrades 10% each death but can be mended.

Yeah! EQ 2 is great game, just try the trial first and if in case you like it then you can devote much time on it to level up. My friend quitted WOW also coz he got bored and he's playing EQ 2 now, he bought his EQ II cd key/cards from an online store gamersloot. Maybe you can check it there too if in case you can't find it at the local store. =)

I double EQ2 being a great game. More content then you could ever explore. There are over 3000 quests. I am taking a break from it all right now...

    Still cant get over LU16...

wow and eq2 are not even wait a minute dont you mean "identical"  anyway, wow is a game just for little kids while eq2 along with eq1 are for more mature adults and kids who actually have a brain and know what they are doing.

The original game only goes to 50, you need the Desert of Flames expansion to get to 60 and Kingdom of the Sky expansion to get to 70.  For new subscribers in North America all you need to do is pick up a retail KoS box.  This comes bundled with the full game, allows you to go all the way to 70, gives you access to the achievement system (alternate advancement) and supplies content from level 55 – 70.

If you don't get DoF you can still level all the way to 70 as long as you have KoS, but there will be a content gap from 50-55.  This gap is particularly noticable in the solo content.

i think ill just buy all the expantions anyway if i like it :-p

    PLAY ON VENEKOR

  • DarkikonDarkikon Member UncommonPosts: 42

Yeah - I think you'll like EQ2. My advice would be to play two or more of the archetypes (healer/rogue/fighter/mage) on the newbie isle to figure out which you like. Decide, too, if you want to pvp before you start, as there are only 4 pvps servers, I believe.

Spend some time on newbie isle messing with your UI once you get around lvl 8 or so. It's a little complex at first, but the UI on EQ2 is pretty good once you get it set up the way you want it.

Plenty of content to explore, tons of quests to do, and usually pretty easy to find a group unless you are on a faction based pvp server.

    ::::01::

and why do you want me to play on that server???

I must've played 95% of the pay mmorpg's out atm and for me EQ2 is my favourite, WoW was ok short term but no lasting appeal, FFXI was nice but no good for solo'ers or casual gamers needs lots of patience, over all though EQ2 is easily my favourite, only issue is performace i've got a dogs b***x PC and it struggles running anything over high, but even on high its one of if not the best looking mmorpg out there, give it a try definately worth, if you buy Kots or DOF you get the original EQ2 anyways so no need to buy them all!
