Should I get Everquest II? Is it Worth it?

XerqtionerXerqtioner Member Posts: 27

I know this question may have been asked a lot, but I don't have time to go forum surfing. Anyways, is Everquest II really worth it? Is it more than you'd expect from World of Warcraft? How is the first impression and is the End game content as good as WoW?

This is a lot of questions, but I just want to see if EQ2 is actually worth it. I've already quit WoW with 3 60's, and it's getting very boring. I want to start something new. Also, if you die in EQ2, do you lose your items or money? Or is there no effect?

If these questions can be answered, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you want a fantasy game with a PvE focus EQ2 is the best choice out there.  You can PvP as well, but this isn’t quite up to the sophistication of games like DAoC.  There is going to be some PvP enhancement in the next expansion though.

The noob island does  a decent job of  introducing you to how to play and the starter areas ok but a little closed in.  They do a good job of introducing you to how to play but not what gameplay is actually like.  This is a little better now that you start off in your subclass rather then working through Archetype, class and subclass, but you are still operating on a limited number of skills until about level 20.

The biggest mistake people make, however is getting bogged down with a huge number of early quests.  There are to many to do, so don’t try to do them all, pick one or two lines and follow them, that should introduce you to most of your home city.

After you get into the late teens and are out into Antonica or the Commonlands the number of quests isn’t quite so overwhelming.  The real key is to find a good guild and make some friends you can group with, you can solo in this game but it rewards grouping so not only are you going to advance more quickly in a group you are going to do more and see more.

The death penalty in EQ2 is very light these days, you gain a little xp debt but you can work this off with a couple solo kills.  You also take some damage to your equipment that must be repaired, but the cost don’t get to bad unless you are raiding by which point you will have more then enough.

I have played WoW, DAOC, EQ1, and currently EQ2.  And I have to say, I have alot more fun in EQ2.  Like stated above on my first toon, I got overwelmed by the amount of quest there are.  Before you do start though, a good read is the following:  Things I wish I'd known earlier    some very good information in here that helped me alot.

Every games worth trying, but will you like it? who knows...

It's a fun game IMO but it just lacks soooo much to make it an amazing game to play. I think Antonica,TS and Nek ruin the game from 10-30.

I also think the communuity isn't great because it's not a social one.

The cities were designed for meeting places but noone talks.

IT feels sooo small because it's zoned

I'd love for the game to be more social like how SWG used to be, it would do it sooo much good because it has bars and houses in the game. Has an amazing trade skill and it has the cities. THe game just doesn't have the mechanics

Also, I've been thinking about which Profession I should be... I've come down to these four: Templar, Guardian, Berserker, Swashbuckler. Which of these do you think would be a faster and more fun leveling experience, and which would be more needed in an EndGame raiding guild?

Anyways, is the Swashbuckler identical the the skills a Rogue has in WoW?

Any of them are good.  Guardian and Templar are both extremely useful in groups and can solo well, but soloing will be slow.  A Swashbuckler is also very good as it's both a DPS and a utility class.  Your soloing options will be a bit more limited, but the mobs you can solo will go down very quickly. Swashies should have no problems getting into raids.  A Berserker is not AS looked for in groups because it doesn't really specialize in anything, but you shouldnt have any problems getting groups at all.  They're very good soloers and do by far the most damage of the plate wearing classes.  When it comes to raiding with zerkers, you will really be a DPS class and that's it.  Zerkers can tank, but not as well as Guardians.

Swashbucklers are similar to rogues in WoW, but not identical.  There's no class in EQ2 that can be directly compared to a class in WoW.  In WoW rogues are basically straight DPS.  In EQ2, swashbucklers can do a lot of DPS, but they also have a lot of utility skills to help out in groups.  The most straightforward melee DPS class in EQ2 is the Assassin, and then the Ranger.

I would say berserker could solo well and pretty good sub-tank in groups.. just my small opnion ^^

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

Playing a zerker up through the first 40 levels coming back to the game recently, I can tell you we make a good enough tank to tank through experience or instance groups, But i can see how we wouldnt make so great of a raid tank. Berserkers aren't too bad at dps either if you can grab 2 good dw weapons. I have gone from 1-40 in about 3 weeks playing casually a few hours every night, I can solo fast, and getting groups is easy if that's more your style.

Alright, I think I settled down and I'm going to choose a Swashbuckler, but I might change since my friend is insisting that I make a Berserker. Anyways, can you change the size (height, how fat, etc) of the races? And do the racial abilities even make a difference?

You can change how tall the races are, within limits set for each race.  You can not change how fat they are sadly, and racial abilities really don't make much of a difference at all.  Just play what you like best.
