I haven't read anything about this so i'll just ask. Will it at all be possible to walk out into the countryside exploring or is the game centered around ship travel and play inside cities and towns?
Originally posted by zymurgeist Nope. They would have to model the entire Caribbean for that. You can't wander around outside cites when off your ship.
Well that's very dissapointing to hear. One of the things that i found attractive in a MMO (WoW, SWG, Auto Assault and so on) is that you can move around and see the world. When the economics system was announces i thought we might have a really good game here, much like SWG, but now i don't know? Since i'm not much into PvP i am wondering what the game would offer to me? What kind of NPCs/mob are there? Are there any PvE at all?
There is no avatar combat for the momment but they are thinking of implementing it very soon (maybe before the release). There are some land mission but I don't think you can really go where you want on land.
"Mobs" in this game are pretty much NPC ships that you will encounter while sailing on the navigation map. So yes, there will be PVE combat.
The initial release will be ships basically as avatars, so you can roam in your ship.
One of the reasons the game was delayed is because they enlarged the playing world to include the entire Caribbean, so there will be plenty of roaming space.
Character movement and land exploration is a future add on after people can get into the game and sail their ships. There will be limited port/land interaction at first.

They allready changed their minds, you will have an avater(look at the various scrrenshots) that can walk around in the ports and cities. Wether avater combat will be in at release is still unknown.
the free roaming happens when you are at sea, you can sail around wherever you want and go into the port towns and take care of business..the focus here is on naval combat, and fun...not sure why people feel that a game isn't fun unless you can run around for hours on end in open fields with nothing to do but "explore"

It would be very wise of the devs to implement melee combat before release. Being so one dimensional as it is now is going to hurt them long-term.

Originally posted by bugzonlsd sounds like Eve except your on a ship at sea heh, dunno, is this game even being released anymore?
It is going to be way better than EVE, EVE has good concepts, the game its self is just flat out boreing, and the game is for surely going to be released, they are annoucing the release date Aug. 25th at PAX. Reasons why they dont have Avatar combat and 100% game map exploration is they dont want to delay the game anymore then it already has. I wont be surprised 1 bit if they do release these features a year or 2 after release, the game looks promising because they didnt rush to release it asap, they took there time in development and interacted with the players concepts and ideas on the forums during it. Im looking forward very much so to its release.
