Yes there will be / are better games but no mmorpg in the future/now will have as nearly as much success as WoW.

    *looks around for a point*

    maybe I need glasses.

Wow attracts a specific type of customer that I dont identify with. The pseudo-gamer. Embarrassed to talk about games or play non-carebear games but the second you mention wow - they pounce and start throwing all these uber items at you. I was in the pub watching the england game (a while ago obviously :P) and I accidentally mentioned an mmorpg - this guy comes out of nowhere almost shouting "DO YOU PLAY WOW" - I spent 10 minutes dumbing down the complexity of the mmorpg I was playing at the time and then he proceeded to go on and on about how he is addicted to wow. This has happened to me several times and disturbs me greatly.

World of Warcraft was made to have broad appeal.  Guys, girls, young, old, casual, hardcore all were drawn to certain aspects of the game.  However, they have clearly failed to uphold the appeal to many players.  I believe many people still play WoW only because there isn't really a whole lot of competition right now.  As new MMOs come out and the overhyped WoW expansion doesn't solve the core problems of the game I believe they will lose many subscribers.  However, will one new MMO ever appeal to as many people as WoW has?  It's hard to say right now, but since the number of people playing MMOs in general seems to be growing it could be possible.

I disagree for the future.  WoW is fun for about 6 months for people who dont like to raid or reroll more then 2 or 3 charactors.  My guess is the next balance PvP mmorpg game with little or no PvE content well be bigger then WoW.

At one time the entire world demand for computers was never going to exceed 200 unites. 640k was all the memory they would ever need.

There may never be a game that holds as much of the market share as wow does now but, one day 6 million subs will be considered a small mmo.

WoW really spread the news about MMO's for all those who never before touched one.

I hate to say, but its very dumbed - down. Simple. Quicky fun. You dont need to work for fun. Its always there.

WoW really did find a new way to do quests. Its all there in your journal, in plain English, no riddle, quest rewards in place so that u can see how you will look in them.
    People like that.

What people dont like is EQ2-style where the quest tells you to find someones wife in X village, but not only do you not know where that is, you also dont know that the wife is dead and was not buried in village X. People say WTF and walk off or spam the general chat.

Almost all other MMOS are niche games like EVE. They are targeted at MMO'ers, not the casuals.

Period - you are precisely the kind of weak minded bigot that makes me wish there was a /ignore function in forums such as these.

I'm sorry I called you a special kind of loser in your anti Korean games thread.
    I was wrong.
You obviously aren't special at all.

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed,
And on the pedestal these words appear:

"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

He's right actually, a single game will probably not match their numbers because so many better games are coming out it will be spread around.

You're right. 6 million chinese farmers can't be wrong.

true. I don't think a single game will have that many subscribers, since the wow-audience is widespread. but they'll become bored (or already are) and look for something different. with the new mmorpgs coming out theres plenty of competition for wow...

so, a single game won't outmatch wow - but the sum of the players switching to new mmorpgs will be significant.

With all the new games coming out soon, I think WoW is going to get demolished. Sorry WoW fanboi's but it's just going to be you and the chinese farmers. I hope you live happily ever after with your foreign friends.

I agree, and I hope it stays that way.

WoW has had the wonderous effect of attracting the immature gamers out there and keeping the majority of them from ruining the games that are actually worth playing for more than an hour. Bear in mind that maturity has surprisingly little to do with actuall age.

so you are saying there will NEVER be any game with a higher income, and a larger playerbase than WoW?
i can guarantee you 99% that this will not be true. the 1% left is for if the world ends tomorrow, or if games get banned from the world ::::12::

    BioWare will!

It won't start up as fast as WoW did however, but it will break the records, I am pretty sure!

And other will beat these records later...unless MMOs get replace by something else online...which would be awesome, yet I just can't see what!

While I tried WOW for a week and found the community to be severly lacking you have to agree with OP sort of.  The game is very successful.  While you may love it or hate it, you can't say it hasn't been a financial success.
