Why so many people leaveing?

I have never played DDO, but ever sence i have been interested in mmorpgs i wanted to get it. now i finished working things out and it seems this game is going down the drains...

Whats the reason people are leaveing?

should i buy?  why?  why not?

I think the primary reason people have left (myself included) is lack of content. You can get to the level cap pretty quickly, and it gets rather repititious doing the same quests over and over again.

The core game mechanics are actually quite good, and there are some really neat touches (D&D founding father Gary Gygax actually narrates one of the longer modules). In addition, there are some neat concepts (like traps) that are cool the first time or two you do a particular quest.

    In short...good game...for a little while :).

First DDO not realy MMO . You can download it and have 7 days trails should be eough to know the game well eough . I am myself found the game super boring. i would say save your money for something better. many new games comming at end of this year or start of next year.

good game to try would be yeah everquest 1 or 2 atm wow is nice for few first months.

Everquest 1 is good, but dated.  I never tried EQ2, but heard really bad things about it.  Wow is good, but rather easy.

I agree, there isn't a lot out right now.  You may be better off waiting a few months until the "3rd Gereation" games start coming out before getting a new one.

DL the free trial to see what the game is like... I wouldn't exactly call it repetitive... but it can be.  Basically it suffers from lack of content... be th at more quests or more variety... the bottom line is the game lacks content... the expansion hits tomorrow, however, so hopefully at least some of that will change.

And yet they are charging for it like an MMO.  I agree with you about this.  Did the trial, and it was very boring, same quests over and over again.  Go guild wars, it is esentially the same thing, only with PvP, and you can't jump.

I quit for a number of reasons, the primary reasons being the lack of original content, and my annoyance at buying a game that clearly wasn't polished enough to support a pay-to-play system.

    Unoriginal Content
DDO is really a one-trick pony. The success or failure of DDO depended upon how good their areas were - and sadly, most of the areas were boring and unoriginal.

    Pay-to-Play Beta
As a previous poster mentioned, there were some good touches, but a beta version of the game was rushed into production and after a couple of months their core audience (the older casual player) said "you want me to PAY to beta test your game? Up yours!" and quit.

Having played EQ, EQ2, WoW, DDO, GW and Saga of Ryzom i'd have to say EQ2 is the better game for the long term. It's similar in polish to WoW but its not quite so mind numbing. The bad things you heard about it were probably near launch where i played for a month and quit. I just picked it up again and its changed alot for the better. I'd actually rank it above WoW but then i think WoW is for simpletons.

I have played about 30 different mmorpgs and the simple fact is - if you see a big white light and start walking toward it and everyone else is running the other way, what do you do? and why is this different?

The games ok for 14 days for hard core players and 3 months for the average to infrequent gamers then its dead - unless you use the internet to make friends and feel a need to stay on it to keep those friends, youre out.

That feeling inside that says 'Im missing out by not playing this' can be a killer - jus make sure you give in to the free trial and not the paid box set.

I was a DDO tester and I had fun testing the game for about a month and then I was putting broken glass in my mouth and chewing it like bubble gum. I recently had debated coming back a few days ago and trying to final release of the game but there is so much negativity about it that it just turned me off.

It's pretty sad that a great idea like DDO can turn into such a flop because it just wasn't done right. :(

I still enjoy it, but it is mainly becasue I belong to a guild with ton of people who play.

Lack of grouping for the unguilded is one of the biggest complaints I hear of.

Instanced games suck big time. This just sucked even worse, they took no notice of what we said in the beta, etc, so they now have the chance to seee how wrong they were. I wanted lvl increase ala WoW, not as many instanced stuff, but they ignored me went wholy instanced and made it more group than solo as well, now they are backtracking with the solo stuff because they figured out that not everyone wants to hang around town trying to get a group for a low lvl instance. At least we still got the pen and paper game to go back to.

Always take advantage of the numerous Free Trial periods a lot of MMO's offer, it's a great way to see if it's something you actually feel like parting with money for.

DDO however...well..yeah, in my opinion, pay somebody $15 a month to play with their McDonald's Happy Meal toy, odds are it will be of better quality and higher entertainment value.
That and hte empty meal box will actually have more content than DDO

There are good reasons a lot of people are dropping DDO like a bad habit, and it's more than just mob mentality

People leave this game much more then they do other MMORPGs.

The difference between DDO and other mmorpgs is that you can reach a point in DDO where you feel like you've won the game. That's never a good thing for any MMO

You got to remember leveling is not the true content of any mmo.  if you rush to the cap in one week and say, "well there is no content" you are missing out the real stuff avaliable on any mmo.

i think for me for ddo is turbine lack the ability to give lots and lots of quests for players who are lvl 10 or 11.  just because i am lvl 10 doesnt mean they shouldnt stop providing quests for us to do.  when i mean alot i mean, they should have like 100 quests just for people who are lvl 10.

i played ddo for about a month and a half and felt like ive done everything.  this mmo with a great brand name behind it should not my end game at one month, they should have targetted at least three months of content.  comparing eq2 when four months after it was released, ddo is just does not compare.  there was so many quests in eq2 that you cant do them all, SOE will add more faster you finish them.  this is where turbine fell short.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

i think ppl is leaving becouse of many reasons, but one of them have to be that they dont like to read the text "miss miss miss miss miss dodge block dodge miss block" while they r swinging their sword

Well said... non-combat content, PVP, Guild Wars, getting rid of instancing for the most part, housing & Explorable Zones would make this game great... the combat is actually a BLAST, but there's only so much hack & slash I can take...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Sorry, but people FLOODED out of SWG, and still do, they just have less people leaving because there are less people playing...

Was that suposed to be trickle/drop/slight wet patch?? I highly doubt that if every single last person left SWG on the same day that I would get any wetter than stamping in a puddle lol

    And back on topic

I tried the 7 days free trial, and gave up after 2 days, i was lvl 3 and could see that it was goig no where.

To sum it up as a MMO for a start is just wrong, the only reason I teamed up with anyone was because myself and a friend tried it out together, and then because the chat is so bad to control we used Team Speak to chat!

The game bored me silly, I cannot see it lasting very long in a world where we have EQ1 and 2 WoW and the promise of the "3rd gen" games cmming out soon.

You would be better off saving the money and not bothering to play bugger all until there is something worth playing out there, unless you like WoW, which I had a break from but comming back for world PvP to see if it can save it for me.

Completely different situation.  SWG completely altered a POPULAR game and made it unpopular.  Thus people flooded out the doors when the change was made (without any forewarning either).

DDO just started out bad and hasn't gotten any better.  It's only saving grace is that the quests are quite fun and the combat system is unique and enjoyable.  But with the ONLY thing to do being 'quest quest quest fight fight fight' people are leaving because they no longer have faith that Turbine will make the needed changes to improve the game to where it's worth paying to play.  Sorry but a 'cool quest engine where I do the same quests over and over' just isn't worth paying for.  And if all there really is to do is Quest... no matter how GOOD they are... the quests get old.
