Okay every time they made an add on for this i tried it....and everytime...am just like...no, i cant do this YES am a person who enjoyed (past) wow, but am not a wow baby, soft mmo lover either. i play a number of free korean mmos, infact i have played almost EVERY mmo out (that you can sighn up for with out a Korean SS#)
ANYWAY with that said......
i just dont see the fun in this game...i mean it takes FOREVER to get anywhere.....alot of it looks the same soyouget confused. the npc layout is annoying...you dont know just where to go next....not always and my god its the slowest game i have ever played (online) i mean sloooooooooooow a town should not have 5 loading zones, come on, do they know that people with lifes also enjoy mmos? i mean who has the time? i live in the US (texas) and i cant see anyone here with somewhat of a life being able to play this game. so am trying to understand WHY people like it so much? its not fun running across a town for 20mins, and god knows how much time to find what you need to find.....you can make things a bit more simple with out changing the feel of the game. so what is it? i just want to know what keeps people playing this. cause i cant find one reason (and i dont want to hear cause its FF cause ff has sucked hard after the enix merge) so .....anyone care to tell me what they play it?

I guess it's the same reason why people play any game...mainly because they enjoy it.  Just because you don't enjoy a game at all, doesn't mean the next person doesn't.  I have never really gotten the chance to play FFXI, I've been dieing to try it out...but my rule is to try a game out before buying it...and FFXI has never had a free trial at all.  I'm sorry you don't like the game man, wish I could help you find a good game to play.

To be honest i think alot of people thought wow FF its bound to have top notch grapghics, excellent game player etc and well to be honest they didnt come.

the graphics are ok but not brillient, but you have to remember the game is getting old now i mean its been out like 3+ years. Even the WOW graphics engine is 3 years old.

I think alot fo FF fans have been disapointed with this game due to the fact that most of them are used to single player games and have never really experianced a MMO. Leveling up in a single player game has to be easy to a certain degree because the game has a end. With a MMO they need to make it longer and harder to level as the game is alot longer

I was a little disapointed with the game as it didnt meet my expectations, however i understand the amount of work that goes with the game and i do like it.

I think that when a player starts the game they can be a little lost, i have just joined the game and i must admit im lost lol imsiimply just fighting lol but its fun :)

good point, i do agree that it should take longer to lev ect.. i mean i have played every mmo i could, and i never felt as lost as i did with ffonline. i dont really want them to make it easy or simple (like wow) am just wanting it to be....i dont know more FF'ish i mean you where always thrown into a great story and thats what keept you playing 40+ hrs and being happy the whole time. now most mmos storys blow and if they dont blow well who stops and reads each quest? i dont so am not exspecting ff size story (althought i would be nice) am just wanting to feel something. even if its not a pretty like new mmos, i dont care. i mean yes i care about grafix, but not as much as i care about a feeling and well when you think final fantasy you rember how you felt when you played it, with 7, 8 X, X2 i have alot of good memorys. but this one....it just dident hit me, the three times i tried.. well i guess to each their own, but someone here who has stuck to it, why? what made you? and how are you doing now ? is it worth it? why?

well i dident go as far back to mention i was a huge fan of FF on the gameboy when i was alot younger, man good stuff (damn you with no back lighting) i played till night time as long as i could, but if you rember the old school gameboys.....well you had to have light. point is FF has always been there and i want it to stay a part of my life. fight with gf? F it play ff......ect ect.....and am not liking the new FF on ps2 at all....so i want to try this one again but i gotta hear some great feed back

A lot of people get overwhelmed by ffxi. The game is HUGE, and the story (Lore and all) Is enormous. But it takes a lot of time to get to it. I'll have to look for the website (Used to have a bookmark...) But it had the entire lore & storyline for ffxi, at least up to that point, was a pretty big ass website.. I'll have to look, I'll post it if I can find it.

Edit: Found the Link, Here read through this, everything here is the ffxi Storyline http://www.shadow-ffxi.com/HistoryofVanadiel/

I had the exact same Initial experience of FFXI when i first tried it, Im a big fan of FF games and RPG's in general, and had played loads of MMORPG's before.

I hated the interface, found it too overwhelming with no direction - i played for about 45 minutes got lost wandering around town and had to ask how to leave town! I killed a few bees, logged off, uninstalled and cancelled my account - thought it was not the game for me.

Several months later i re-discovered the box and decided to try it again - perhaps i didnt give it enough time before - ive never looked back since - ive been playing about 14 months now.

The interface is 'different' to other mmorpgs, which makes the game feel fresh and different to the others, it does take some time to get used to but is more efficient and faster to use when your used to it than any other - a gamepad with 2 analogue sticks is highly reccomended - i play on the xbox 360 now.

There is a real sense of achievement when you accomplish something, which i have not experienced in the other games.

Theres soo much to do, the story is great and involving, the people are mostly good people.

The game is a long game, designed to be played for a very long time, there is no quick ways to the end.

Its a great game and the longest i have subscribed to a game and i dont think ill be quitting anytime soon as im still enjoying it, theres still sooo much i havnt seen, done or accomplished.

Heres a great video, that may spark you to give it another try :- Link

I think what you want is a thotbott were you can punch in cords and it just shows you exactly were to go.

FFXI is about being in a lush detailed world, a world were you as the player have to explore and just seek stuff out. Its not meant to be easy, this game Apes EQLive so there you go. FFXI imo is the best mmo because it has all the things i liked from EQ, except its more in depth then EQ. If you were a rank 10, 70+ player you just wouldnt ask these questions, you would know about outpost warps, enchanted warp/tele/flee items, instead to me it just seems like you logged in got lost and insta quit, as a vet i cant help you nor would i even want to. You played some asian mmos? Unless its L2 that means nothing to me.

IMHO this game is really the end of an ERA. The last great hub zone PVE MMORPG but lucky for us, FFXI will be great for years to come if ToU is any indication.

What do I see great about this game?
Me and my friends in the Linkshell were talking about this two nights ago.

    I said...
The community..., everybody who plays this game is very mature, everybody is polite, we all get along together because why should we be hateful against each other?
I love the people you meet in the game. In all these popular mmos we play now days, when was the last time you actually had a decent conversation with somebody?
It happens all the time in FFXI...

Some in my linkshell agreed, some others said they loved the crafting system, and the job system.
