Okay here's just one of several links I found suggesting that perhaps the PS3 could see World of Warcraft sometime in the near future.

Lets pretend for a moment that a week or two before the November release of the Playstation 3 that Blizzard announces that World of Warcraft will indeed be released on the Playstation 3 sometime in 2007. Let's also assume that they further say that no Xbox 360 version is in their plans at that time.
How would a news report like this from Blizzard affect the sales of the Playstation 3 units??
I honestly expect something like this to happen right around the PS3 launch. I think Sony desperately wants this and has the power, money, and negotiating abilities to persuade Blizzard into devoting a WoW release specifically for the PS3.
Other big games for the PS3 are in the works, especially monster games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, and SOCOM 4 just to name a few.
But if this kindof announcement, as I have been predicting now for many months, does indeed happen.. What would this do for the PS3 sales? And what also would it do for possible future mmorpg releases on the PS3?

It would be such a lost cause that you'd find it used as an example for the definition of that phrase in a dictionary. Think about it, a game that is almost two years old, can be run on your typical $500 PC today, is designed to be played with a keyboard and mouse, not a control pad, ment to be viewed with a PC monitor, not on a non-HD TV.
That said I doubt they would do this as it would mean a lot of extra work for a small increase in paying subscribers. ( I could be SOOOOOOO wrong on that last statement )
Whatever - it certainly wont have the slightest impact on my little world.
Might make for intesting Forum Trolling though
"There's no star system Slave I can't reach, and there's no planet I can't find. There's nowhere in the Galaxy for you to run. Might as well give up now."

Whether WoW appears on the PS3 or not I'm not really bothered, but the above isn't true. Blizzard would not have to sell the rights for WOW to SOE to have it on the PS3, just like no one has to sell the rights to their game to Microsoft to use Xbox Live - and all games HAVE to use Xbox Live now.

As I understand it Sony have always stated their on-line service will be free which has put pressure on Xbox Live - though Sony are playing catch-up in the online console space. This does not mean they won't change this stance, of course.
Still, even if they do, the fact you pay for the Sony Online service for the PS3 does not necessarily effect any MMORPG that goes to the online service. Xbox Live has silver and gold service and the theory is you can play any MMORPG on Xbox Live via the silver service without requiring gold - in this case the MMORPG fee would replace the Xbox Live fee.
Since this is an established strategy from their major competitor they'd be stupid to charge double.
I think the game will function well on console Hardware.
They may well want to convert it when the playerbase shows signs of wanning.
It is a pain to play with a keyboard and mouse when you are on the couch as opposed to playing it on the computer desk. It gets uncomfortable eventually.
Because NTSC TVs have a resolution of 720 x 486 (or 640x480, or 320x240, depends on who you talk to) and the minimum resolution for WoW is 800x600. Not to mention all the other funkiness that you have to deal with NTSC television sets like interlacing and overscanning, which is a pain for any game that is UI intensive as WoW.
