I've never played Guildwars. The main reason being that race is limited to humans.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Gotta say that is the first time I've ever heard anyone say the graphics were "too realistic"  I don't know whether that is a good thing or a knock against the game?  Most people demand better graphics.  If I wanted a really comic-book look I'd go play the N64, Sega, or something like that.....

That's the beauty of GW.... it allows you to have control of you PvP.  You don't have to hunt down the latest piece of uber 1337 armor, and run around bragging about how cool you are because you have it.  This game requires skill and strategy more than anything.  That's part of what makes it un-MMORPGish.  You don't just run around grinding for the best armor/weapons and then pwn everyone with it.  Everyone in GW is on the same level... every warrior has the same armor, every ranger.  The strategy is trying to find the right skills to complement the group and plan out the battle.  With only 8 skills you can pick out of over 100-some-odd, it takes good pre-planning to even stand a good chance at PvP.

I could play the game for 2 weeks and beat people that have been playing it for months or since release.  You'll almost never find that in a WoW/EQ/AC/SWG-esque game.

Just saying that gfx wise it takes me out of the fantasy moreso than wow did with it's 'inferior' gfx... sometimes less is more but it is of personnel taste and maybe the 'atmosphere' is more of the point I am making than a pure gfx commentary.

GW to WOW is like PORSHE to a SPACESHIP, both can transport you but are too different to be considered in the same class. WOW is a MMORPG, GW is not (I forgot the official classification).

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

well, tbh, i dont think anyone is going to read this post since there is so many opinions in this question. anyways, here is my opinion:

at the beginning i played GW because it was free, i rly liked it. i played  with 3 of my friends. but, atm i hit lvl 20, it sucked. i didnt bother finish any more missions, i didnt bother starting a new characther. then i started playing WoW again ( i played and stoped). and i still play it

i dont have any in lvl 60, for two reasons

    1. ive heard wow is boring at lvl 60

2.my first char where a druid, and when i started playing again, i created a warrior and im extremly active but im currently only at lvl 41

so, i cant rly tell you anything about the end-game. but i think the game is alot of fun, and im pretty sure you would get some rly nice moments in the wonderful world of Azeroth.

btw, here is something i hate about GW: unlike WoW, you dont got ANYTHING to look foroward too. no cool spells, no cool armor, no cool weps! you even have to buy armor! and one of my friend got one of the best armor in a rly low lvl! pvp is nice enough, BUT whats the freaking meaning of the pvp if you dont win a freaking thing on it!?!

so when all come toghether, here is my opinion on the whole case: buy GW, if you rly like it, buy the expension. if your like me, you will hate it at lvl 20. if you do hate it, buy WoW and /whisper Domize in the server Boulderfist

(im sorry if i have offended any GW players, and all that i have said, is my opinion. not how the game is for everyone)

Don't tell me the stupid and waaaaaay over-posted "is GW a MMORPG?" is coming up again.... it's been addressed MANY times in this forum.  It IS a MMORPG..... before posting something either read the GW site (they do NOT say it isn't a MMORG) and it meets every acronym in MMORPG.

To END this discussion on the forum....

Massively - It is massive.... huge area, has a storyline, and lots to do
Multiplayer - It is multiplayer game, over 2 million people own the game and can play at the same time in the same "galaxy" or "shard" or whatever you want to call it.
Online - It is an online game (anyone questioning this is not worthy to use a computer)
Role Playing Game - It is a RPG (you get a character and build them up doing quests).

That's all there is to it.  It's not negotiable, or up for interpretation.  The GW devs calli it a CORPG with MMORPG characteristics.  Therefore it is a MMORPG, just designed to be more competitive (hence the "C").

I would have thought someone with 1000 posts would at least know that good forum etiquette is to read previous threads in a forum before posting.  Apparently I'm giving that post count too much credit....

Do people even know what the point of GW is?  Just because you hit level 20, doesn't mean anything.  You should hit level 20 1-3 weeks after starting to play a character if you play daily.

It is designed to hit max level as fast as possible.  The game only begins at level 20.  The game is designed around PvP.  It's the big part of the "C" in the CORPG category that the devs say.  The biggest reason you wouldn't like GW at level 20 is if you don't like PvP.

From your comments you haven't really played PvP at all.... You get a lot of things for PvP. In prophecies you get fame and Balthazaar points.  In Factions you get cities to control, factional points you can trade for items.  You can also win the yearly one hundred thousand dollar US championship for PvP.

GW isn't about the grind, it's not about killing and killing until you find the next piece of uber 1337 armor.  It's a game of skill.  I have been playing since beta.  A person that has been playing for 2 months could come along and hand my corpse to me several times over.  It's not about uber armor, that super weapon that will make you pwn everyone around you.  You are on equal footing as everyone else, and that is why it's a skill game.  That's one of the key difference between it and most MMORPG games.  You get everything relatively quick, and you have to learn how to use your skills and equipment better than everyone around you to stand a chance.  That's where the strategy kicks in.  You also have over 100 skills to pick from, but can only choose 8 of them.  You have to plan ahead of time what you are going to do, and if in a PvP group (that is serious) you need to plan out what skills each will take and what each players function is.  Strategy and skill.  That's what's GW is all about.

If you lilke games where you have to grind and farm to get ahead or stand a chance, you'll hate GW.  If you want a game of strategy and skill you'll love GW.

Ok heres a quote from GW website "Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game)"
You can find that from their FAQ section: http://guildwars.com/support/faq/

RPG is NOT when you get a charactter and build them up doing quests. That profile fits pretty much every single game where you play a cahracter. Even Halo would fit this profile - you get a character and you do quests/missions. Roleplaying is when the main gameplay IS around playing your character as if you were it. With GW, its not realy playing your character but rather competing with other people. Thats why Halo is less RPG but more FPS, thats why GW is less RPG and more CORP. But hey, your opinion is the only true opinion, and everyone else (even devs) are wrong, right? End of discussion.

End of discussion?  Pretty cocky for someone that doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.  Especially from someone that has only officially played the game for under an hour.

Where does your quote say it is NOT a MMORPG?  Maybe if you read a little further you'll see that they say it also has MMORPG characteristics.  What about the line where they say "Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences."  They never said it isn't a MMORPG.... they said it has many similarities, but they prefer to call it a CORPG.

Of which the second point is this.... Do you even understand the acronym of CORPG?  Competitive Online ROLE PLAYING GAME.  They call it a RPG in their own label.  Or are they wrong too?  What does the RPG really stand for?  Obviously I have no clue what I'm talking about, so please enlighten me and everyone else in the GW section of the forums.

Look up the definition of RPG before you try to tell me what it is.  Try this link for starters....  http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=role-playing game.  What does it say there?

            role-playing game

            n.
    A game in which
players assume the roles of characters and act out fantastical
adventures, the outcomes of which are partially determined by chance,
    as by the roll of
    dice.
    or maybe try http://isp.webopedia.com/TERM/R/RPG.html

            (2) Short for role-playing game, it is a game
genre where one or more players adopt a role and act it out         in a virtual reality.
Usually in an RPG game, you will set out on an adventure or quest, and multiplayer RPG         games allows
    gamers to complete these quests
with other gamers as allies over the Internet or as a
    LAN         game.

Tell me where it says that GW isn't a RPG.  You assume a role, build a character, and do quests....all in virtual reality.  Show me how GW doesn't satisfy that.  Even the devs call it a RPG (CORPG).  Or are they wrong?

And no, my opinion isn't final word.... except when it's the right word.  As in this time.

I don't think the game was intended to be funnier.  Just funner.  Removing the grind from a game doesn't make it funner?  Unless you enjoy doing the same thing over and over and over and over it wouldn't be funner.  Or you don't have to farm like mad to find the latest power weapon or armor piece.  That's what makes the game funner.  All you need to do is just play it.  And with the skill vs time-in difference, it means I can start in and in a couple weeks be strong enough to take on people that have been playing since release.  Skill makes the game fun and challenging, not about having the better armor/weapon and running around killing all the newbies, or those that don't have that all-new more powerful piece of equipment.

No one said not to try both.... but if someone is going to give an opinion on it (whether good or bad) at least have played the game long enough to know the game.  Just saying you hit level 20 and got bored doesn't mean anything.  A pretty regular gamer should hit level 20 within a few weeks.

If I went onto the Eve forum and tried to post my opinion as fact, and I only played the game for a couple hours, I'd be laughed off the forum.

I was actually being sarcastic to YOUR comment in your previous post where u said TO END THIS DISCUSSION.
talking about.  Especially from someone that has only officially played the game for under an hour.
Ok im lost... are you the voice in my head? Are you me? How do you know how much I play? oh, you mean from Xfire? Cmon, dont be silly, you should know better then trust Xfire (I once ran Civ4 and Xfire for 14-18 hours daily for a week to make a point to a friend)

Where does your quote say it is NOT a MMORPG?
Uhm, like, in the quote I supplied??? DUH. Here, I quote it again... Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game)". What I think this means is "We dont want to call it MMORPG becuase its a new type of game, so we would rather call it CORPG".  I dunno, thats not too hard to comprehend.

Maybe if you read a little further you'll see that they say it also has MMORPG characteristics.
So does pretty much ANY game with multiplayer support.

Ok, so JUST becuase it has RPG in its name, does it mean its an MMORPG? So if FPS game like Halo DOESNT have RPG in its name, its not a roleplaying game? But wait, few lines below you actually give a reference to RPG definition (good, so I dont have to quote it myself).

What does it say there?

    gamers to complete these quests
with other gamers as allies over the Internet or as a
    LAN         game.
All rite, here we go. Well, this definition fits ALL games where you play a character. All games including most FPS's, a lot of RTS's, ALL RPGs (single and online)... that definition covers what, 98% of games? So the point is, you cant just give a generic definition of RPG - it applies to pretty much every game.
Tell me where it says that GW isn't a RPG.  You assume a role, build a character, and do quests....all in virtual reality.  Show me how GW doesn't satisfy that.  Even the devs call it a RPG (CORPG).  Or are they wrong?
No, Originally I said "WOW is a MMORPG, GW is not (I forgot the official classification)." and then you jumped in and said "Don't tell me the stupid and waaaaaay over-posted "is GW a MMORPG?"
is coming up again.... it's been addressed MANY times in this forum.
    It IS a MMORPG."
This is where I disagree with you, since GW is NOT a MMORPG, as it was stated by devs.
And no, my opinion isn't final word.... except when it's the right word.  As in this time.

In conclusion, dont your words into my mouth. There is a difference in opinions about definishions. Since I simply quoted GW devs, you really have to take this argument to them, not me

I lately started with WoW and all I keep thinking is that I want to play GW... WoW is too slow and stereotype to me... it has all the basics of how a MMORPG should look like and nothing special. GW on the other hand is not a MMORPG in my eyes but a fast and furious game with alot of action.

I might just install GW again... was some time since last time now. And I've tried millions of MMORPG's now but cannot find one that satisfies me after old SWG.

Anyway just try the games before deciding.

End of discussion?  Pretty cocky for someone that doesn't have a clue what they are
I was actually being sarcastic to YOUR comment in your previous post where u said TO END THIS DISCUSSION.
talking about.

Usually in an RPG game, you will set out on an adventure or quest, and multiplayer RPG         games allows
    gamers to complete these quests
with other gamers as allies over the Internet or as a

Let's also not forget the statement cooldevo placed in his "explanation" of mmorpg. GW can hold 2 million people at the same time on one shard? Now this I wanna see. Please show any sort of proof they or you have for this statement, cooldevo. The "potential" to hold 2 million on one server is nothing more than conjecture because if it hasn't been done with succesful tests, including playable framrates and no server crashing, then you cannot hold the statement to be true.

all i have to say is: try both

If I went onto the Eve forum and tried to post my opinion as fact, and I only played the game for a couple hours, I'd be laughed off the forum.

well. what i meant was that why continue playing a game if your bored? i played to lvl 20, did a little pvp and got bored. but i got to say, it was rly fun at some points, especially when i crushed my friend in a pvp battle:) and thats something WoW dont got.
because if you create a allaince and horde they wont keep same lvl.
