    The E-sign or Esignature bill was passed on Oct. 1, 2000. It elevated entirely digital contracts to the same status as traditional paper ones. There have been many lawsuits where digital signatures were introduced into eveidence. Years before the bill was passed the courts were still very likely to hold people to the agreements they made online. The bill was really the re-enforcement of case-law with statute.
