Beta 3 On Hold?

Vanguad gave beta keys to people in that Computer Gamer magazine a month or two back. But now they have put those people on hold because of "transition" issues due to the SOE partneship. I thought they chose SOE because they're so awesome at hosting and marketing. What's the hold up on allowing these people to get into beta? It's like they don't want any new people to see the beta. What are they afraid of? This kind of delay seems ominous to me....

I agree that it best that you not reply to the OP.

It isn't just that they switching the servers. The CGM passes are for Beta 3, which they are also making the transition to...which means they are also turning on another continent, possibly haveing to re-rig their patching system to match SOE's, create new clients that will connect to the new servers. It isn't just installing a program and flipping the "on" switch.

Reasons? I'm just guessing as to why it is taking so long...it's not like they are posting "omg, sorry it's taking so long we have to do stuff". They aren't making excuses for it....it just is.

The conspiracy theorist dismisses an excellent reply to his questions. How cliche.

Ya, what is taking them so long anyway? I mean, shouldn't moving the software from MS servers to SOE servers and creating a new log in system for SOE and away from MS passport be an instant process? They should be able to just wiggle their noses and have it all done instantly and stuff....

YEA Thats right!!! They should do that..... Aye give it time and IF you actually read the Vanguard forums there is no guarantee that you are getting into Beta 3 either. The CGM might be the first people in Beta 4 or 5: get used to waiting.

Well if u read correctly and if u take time to look at the registration webpage you will notice that is the same for every1 that being invited or through CGM and that ur put in a queue... so my guess is they will let ppl in as they register, ppl will just have to wait for their turn, so being in beta 3, 4 or 5 is just a matter of numbers...so if u registered ur key yesterday u might only get to test VG in beta 5.

Anyway, waiting or not hope its worth it.

    cheers.

i wouldn't worry, it generally takes $oe a few days to understand the right way to ruin a game.

Here's what the FAQ was recently updated to say, so it should be coming soon...

    CICKY4U

    - 2.2 When will you start Beta Testing?

We began Beta 0 “Friends and Family” testing with a very small group of people in August 2005.

In August 2005 we began Phase 1 of Beta, and as of October 2005 we have been in Phase 2 of beta. Phase 3 will start in July, 2006. We plan on having a total of 6 phases. Our general goals for our beta phases have been and are as follows:

Phase 0: Work out technical issues -- how do we get the code up there, testing issues, patching, etc. Basic infrastructure stuff. Then stability -- get the code at least stable enough that beta testers will not be overly frustrated. Start with a small portion of the world and slowly turn additional regions on over time.

Phase 1: Start testing gameplay. Begin with the basics, then move on to the systems that make Vanguard more unique. Also study how both world size and the world being seamless affects the game.

Phase 2: Continue testing, but with a lot more people. Focus on the mid to higher level game, as well as continue on with crafting, diplomacy, and the other more Vanguard-specific systems. End the phase by filling up the continent Thestra with testers such that critical mass in terms of population has been achieved.

Phase 3: Fill up both Thestra and Qalia. Continue to monitor how fast people are advancing, plus everything else that was in phase 1 and 2. Test even more high level areas, but probably not the highest level areas, unless with specific, hand chosen focus groups. The primary focus, however, will be on finalizing levels 1-35.

Phase 4: Determine the target number of people in a single shard, preferably arriving with a number in between over populated and too sparsely populated. Add Kojan, completing the world. Finalize itemization, character advancemet rates, tweaks to Crafting, Harvesting & Diplomacy.

Phase 5: The shortest phase. Bring in a LOT of people (I think EQ had 25,000+). Have multiple shards online and make sure there are no issues there. Test billing, login, etc. Do everything we can to make sure nothing catastrophic happens when we turn on the game for real. Perhaps open some of the high end content briefly, but still being careful to keep mystery in the game.

    Launch

And then, of course, the Live Team begins work, if they haven't already. We plan expansions. We make sure Customer Service is where we want it to be. We make sure Operations is working right and we have good stability and uptime.

It is too early to announce dates or requirements for participation in future betas, or when future beta phases will start. We have internal goals we want to meet, and meeting them will determine and drive when we begin the next phase.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

LOL!  Didn't you guys know that the 12th means a month is almost over?  I mean jeez everyone knows that 12/31 = almost over!

WHAT!!?   Where did you go to school?  Hello!  McFly!

If it's the 28th and still no Beta 3 - then repost this thread.  O.K.?  I guess at least it's not another dug up post from 4 months ago.
