A question on stats

First of all, I'm playing a necro on the Gareth server.  I have a general question about stats and a question specifically about necros.

1)  Is there any point in getting stats past the cap?  Right now i have something like 170 intelligence with 52 points OVER the cap in my stats window... would I be better off getting non-int gear at this point so I'm not wasting my armor?

2)  Which stats correlate to positive effects for my necro pet?  I've heard that int increases damage and dex increases casting speed, but do any other stats (con/dex?) affect my pet in any way?

3)  As a followup to #2, does the armor value (Factor) of the armor I wear have any effect on the armor of my necro pet?  Will he take less damage in melee if I'm wearing all orange, nice gear vs. very bad gear (assuming stats remained the same)?

    I do not know much about Necro's so I will stick with #1.  Going over your cap does not help.  The only reason to have something over your cap is if you will level into it.  For example, you are level 35 and above the cap.  When you are at level 40 you will just be at the cap.  So you are better off switching items out for bonuses to something else.

    2) None of your stats affect necro pet

    3) Your armor does not affect necro pet

    In other words, you don't need better armor rating or even con as necro as they have no effect on the pet. You only need int,dex and +points to the spell line you are speccing and focus bonuses.

    This seems kinda silly to me =/ because my gear at level 35 was already good enough to keep me above the cap on both int and dex through level 50... which doesn't really give me any incentive to get new stuff =P

    New armor will reduce damage when it is higher level.  As for Dex/INT that is only part of what you need.

    You will want to max out your CON so you have max hits.  You will also want to max out your resists to reduce damage.  Then there are items that raise your stat limit to get.  While you are leveling it is not that important, but if you plan on spending a lot of time in the BG's from level 40-49 you will want to improve those.

    But the thing is,YOUR armor doesn't affect the necro pet. YOUR con doesn't affect the hp of necro pet. Necro cannot be hit as long as the pet is up. When the pet dies the necro is left with 10% hp and when one is under 20% they move at reduced speed so the necro is as good as dead
