I've been posting this as my review, but I'd like to get some feedback on it too, perhaps to lighten up on some of the people who REALLY dont seem to like the game for some reason. Well I do! I love it! It has more challenge, more intellect than any other game I've tried, once you understand it!

I'll give it two thumbs up! It
has many bad sides, and many good sides. I'll cover both in this
review:
Excellent game. The first game in my history of gaming I would classify
as "fascinating". Its not the usual factors setting in here. Its a
strange hybrid of game genres in a very interesting vision of a grand
game. FOM sets out to achieve soemthing never really seen before, and
to a degree, it achieves it. It nears the best gaming experience I have
ever had, at any point in time. I'll present you with all I think is
bad with FOM, and why it is good. And also of course why I stick to it,
Its a strangely ambivalent feeling, since the game in its own right is
stripped of interaction if you happen to log on at the wrong time, or
you live in a wrong time zone. Currently FOM lives and breathes from
mid european afternoon and until the amercians go to bed. This is a
community issue, and will be better and wider (hopefully) with the
designers starting a larger extent of marketing and advertisement.
Granted, Face
of Mankind is probably, game mechanics-wise, the most boring game
you've ever seen. There are no levels, you cant go up in power, hit
points, skills, feats or anything! The combat system is horrible, to
say the least. Its slow, confusing and generally unrealistic. The AI of
the VERY few aliens you may meet is horrible (although the devs have
been bettering this a lot) There is no continual drive from the game
mechanics to tell you what to do next when you start up. Its hard to
get an overview, and its hard to "get under the skin of the game". What
happens however, if you do manage to get into the game is a whole
ground breaking experience in the gaming world.
Get over the combat system, and the lack of overview, and you got
yourself a whole new toy set of grandeur gaming and possibility of
roleplaying!
We have 8 factions, and each their goal in the game sort
of varies, but with the same bottom line result: power! Raw power! They
are classed as 1) mega corporations who in their inventiveness control
(or at least tries to control) the economy of the game. We have the 2)
Government Forces, aka police and military whom both have their very
own interests and agendas, trying to force their rule on the citizens,
and we have 3) the Clans, a multitude of mafia syndicate ,
revolutionaire and mercenary groups who all strive for either
political, fiscal or phsysical recognition and change. Both the famous
and the infamous plays their role in this huge world of constant
political, evovling and very player-run atmosphere. Whether you want to
be a senator playing your own agendas in the marble senator halls, as a
commander in the military, leading large amounts of people into battle,
as a trader, making huge amounts of money off the wars of the galaxy,
or a grunt, taking orders and shooting who you are told (or paid?) to
shoot, the choice is yours. A mix of these is seen, and you can spice
it up with the touch of roleplay to make a memerable character. All you
need is the ability, wits and skills to best those who would be your
rivals, rely on your friends and work your way up through a society of
players throughout the entirety of the Global Dominion, for good or
bad.
Who is it for? Hard to say, I can tell you who its NOT for! Its
not an Action game. By any means! Its a "socio-political wargame" where
winning is a matter of perspective and teams are a matter of ideology.
If youre looking for a science fiction fast paced wargame, you will be
largely disappointed.
If you are a roleplayer, or you like the
interaction parts or the trader-life often neglected in other MMO's,
FoM is your deal!
I love it, even though I played it for more than a year, and despite
the flaws in it. Try it out...
I love it!
What do you say?
Great fan of Face of Mankind.

in my personal opinion its the first online game where a player gets "really" mighty, and have a real influence on the game itself in a controlled way.
aliens? there are no aliens(tm)
who needs aliens when theres the famous xenomorphes
and the game has alot of work, but its looking nice by what i hear... i hope no ones taken my Tep Tam name....
Well there arent aliens... right now... But we've all seen them. I cant wait till they re-implement them again! Plus all the new types!

The dominion wishes best for mankind. And rather not create panic ( Hence they keep on saying, there are no aliens )
But about Combat, yea its kind of CS style as u don't click but aim. Maybe thats why lots of you say its bad ( And hitboxes aren't that great, but they will be improved ( Check todo list: http://www.fomportal.com/index.php?page=text&text=development_todo)
I find the combat way more interesting then a point and click your skills game, as this keeps you busy. Its not like you have one hand in your pands and the other hand you use to fight.
I got to admit, its very difficult to get started in the game, and because of this you might not like the game at first.
But just join a faction who has good lesson plans for new players (example FDC or LED) this will help you alot. After that you can always choose to join another faction. And by the way, dont be afraid to ask other players, if they see/heared you are new or if you tell them, they MOSTLY are willing to help you.
So plz, if you join the game, dont immediatly hate the game, first try to get used to it and ask players about stuff!
-Snake Eye
(P.S. what absolutely improves the fun is Ventrillo (FREE voice chat program), download it and ask a player of your faction for the information so you can log into it. This way you will fast hear where the cool stuff is happening!)
Just a matter of time, they are on the to do list, although it is on the long term list...
Well untill then, we will have fun too!!!
I'm trying my best to like it, I really am...
But...
Coming from a grinding background, it's really dull. I'm used to logging ingame and going on hunts for hours then logging off. The whole idea of players create the content is just wrong imo. It's like the dev's got lazy and said "Balls to making quests the players can do that hehehehe :O". In 5 hours of playing... I did one mission lol. And the mission itself was boring, just defending Kami against VI.
I really hate the fact that when high ranked players aren't online to create "content" for me I have nothing to do lol. Doesnt make sense imo.
I see it as an expensive chat room... But, I will continue to play untill my month is up then make up my mind. On a plus side, the organisation I'm in "BoS", have been really nice and helpful.
About your hunting, well if you read the todo list. They WILL implent automatic missions, so you don't have to wait. And also c ounter missions on other campaigns, its just matter of time.
It would be nice to have like npcs that do stuff, and that you can fight them in proper ways too, but its all matter of time I think. DPS isn't the biggest team out there you know
if you like rediculously bad games.
Will be fun when the aliens gets implemented or "found".

Actualy it depends what you want to do in the game... theres no point in joining LED if you have no intent on upholding the law, same as theres no point in joining BoS if your going to respect the GD.
Each faction has its own style you have to think which one would be for you. and then enjoy that faction.

well when i tried out the game for about 2 weeks i joined LED (i guess that was what people joined who were just starting out and didnt know anybody) but i had absolutely no idea what to do the entire time i played..... mostly i just ran around exploring different areas and getting killed practically everywhere i went =/
needless to say i walked pretty much everywhere without anything in my inventory but after about 2 weeks and 500 PK ganks later i was pretty much tired of it (this was during open beta i have NO IDEA what the game is like now)

Ill tell you one thing for cirtain.. the term Gank is used with any shot fired... People dont gank so much anymore. Most people kill because its part of thier RP, or faction stances. I very rarly get attacked by a random corp member anymore. Only by criminals such as the mercs and BoS.
To be honest. I love the game, i have been in it for 1 and a half years and enjoyed about 90% of the time i have been playing. I dont even care if i die anymore... seriously, if you are concidering trying this game out, check out my post... http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/85223) It has alot of helpfull tips for new players to make the game more enjoyable.
Depends on what type of activites you enjoy in FoM, regarding which faction you were in. There are an amount of limitless activities to do, you just have to strive and hunt them out, not just stand there....
As the patches for FoM comes out by the weekly, things tend to be improved by a vast majority....just wait and see for yourself.
