Lineage 2 has a lot more depth in it. Everything you do is for a reason. in City of Heroes/Villans, everything you do is pointless and repetive. the mission you do at level 1 (95% of the missions forces you to go inside the same instance maps over and over again) is the exact same you will do at level 50. its always the same 5 maps. the combat in CoH is pretty nice, but the game is VERY repetive. City of Heroes/Villains IS fun for a month or so, but its also the most repetive MMO around. Lineage 2 is more aimed for people who want to play the same mmo over a long period of time.

Well if you have alot of Money to ebay money with go ahead.. if not you cant compete at all.. everything is so overpriced because of botters and macros.  the game has degraded into a 24-7 gank fest on some servers where high lvls camp the newbie areas. It had alot of promise but died. If you really want to play L2 tho there are private servers you can find and play for free. Those are alot more fun

Please always speak for yourself when discussing things like this. because you can't handle the hardcore nature of this game, and therfor can't compete, does not mean someone else can't. the game has a close 2 million subscribers, so go figure. high levels camp the newbie areas? yeah, maybe on your private server, that definitly doesn't happen on the official servers anymore. private servers more fun? yeah right. the average private server life is 6 months to a year, so you WILL lose are your work. you will also miss all the REAL raids, the real clan politcs. you sir, give the wrong advice.

I've recently finished rolling 4 different characters into their 20's. I have been ganked a grand total of 1 time. Newbie areas are hardly camped.

If you need cash, just roll a dwarf alt. Keep him low level and have his spoil materials and sell them for outrageous profits to higher level players. Its not that hard.

Hardly any 'gankig' no one fights people for no reason, if there is PvP it starts around level 60ish.

Money, ebaying helps but it would only cost about 15$ to get what you need.

If you have free time, L2 is the most hardcore mmmorpg, with the most hardcore players all playing 'hardcore' aka tons of hours a day.

If you feel to hardcore mmorpg L2 is the place, and you will enjoy every moment of it.

Probably never played L2 have ya? " degraded into a 24-7 gank fest on some servers where high lvls camp the newbie areas" lol, nice try, that was the dead givaway.

You should try the game sometime and see how badly you put your foot in your mouth. Who knows, you might like it.

Just a few words about private servers. Everybody who can pay...strongly recomend to play on official servers. I have a "pleasure" to try several free servers and can say....they are very, very POOR :) Have a lots of bugs and bad system administration.

Sorry for my bad english :)

    Good Luck!!

For your information i have played the game. I had a 62 Gladiator and a 55 Abyss Walker and several alts.. the scamming and bots are horrendous the Customer support is non existant.. unless the game has done a complete 180 in the last couple of months which i doubt, save your money.. but thats my opinion. You can also check out the Re-review of L2 on this site.  As for Private servers, most of the ppl i grouped with all quit around the same time and moved to a private server which is very stable and we are having a blast.  And if you want a game with real poilitics try eve online - it has a steep learning curve but once you get past the tutorial and find a corp you like nothing else out there now will match the rush you get in the Real PvP you can find in eve..  As for giving the wrong advice as Gameloading stated - If you are really interested in L2 Check several sites for a broader base of Opinions before you make a choice.

Again, I have a strong feeling you never played the game, despite you saying you did. I dare you to find any customer support that does a better job then NCsoft. trust me, there is no other person in Lineage 2 who request as much technical and character help as I do, and all support came within minutes. and ALWAYS fixed my problem. also, EVE's politics can't even compete with Lineage 2's if clicking your opponent, clicking your weapon and then sit back and wait gives you a rush, then have fun in EVE. looking for opinions on several sites is just as pointless as asking for aid about a game in the general discussion section of this website. its full of people who can't get trough the hardcore nature of this game and miss all the good parts.

Lineage 2 private servers completely miss the things that make Lineage 2 so much fun. perdiod, fact, end of discussion.

Private servers are horrible. Most will give you insane gear for making monetary donations, which is a lot worse than ebaying in the real game. +25 s grade weapons... All private servers are multiple chronicles behind and typically have horrble movement control. I don't know of one private server that has C4 content in it. Most barely have completely functional C2 content. I don't even know how you can get a rush from pvp in a private server. Usually the xp rates are so high and money is so easy to make there is no actual loss when you die, just like WoW. At least on the real server you risk something so your excitement comes from that. On a private server you risk nothing.

whoa thx lots guys. i truly see both sides of the medal (exept for those who just like to complain)
    thx for the constructive critisism
and haruko in all MMOs there are times when they are full of events and there are other times when its status-quo
im an old Ultima online ragnarok and SWG hard core (well i was long time ago)
for example in SWG there was a time when imperials (me :P) managed to get all imperial guilds toguether (or at least the important ones) and attack simultaneously all active rebel bases in the whole server
it just hapened that the rebels decided to put most of the bases at the same time in the same planet... lol... and we took em by surprise (no leaks perfectly executed) and then there where sometimes when there was no PvP nor events for months... so dont worry some action will come in soon

remember there is always calm and peace before war and action.

    Hey Squall,

I recently started the game 2 months ago. My main gripe with the game is that it could be so much better with a little bit of thought and a little bit of action. The botting is annoying, the botters are insidious and on Hindemith you can see them actively raise the price of materials. Ancient Adena in one hour went from 2a per AA to 3a per AA because one bold person tried it lol. EWB went from 1.1-1.4m to 2m in a week and now it varies from 2-4m.

You don't need EBAY to play the game, only mentally limited people need ebay ot play this game. If you are going the 100% legit way I suggest you make a dwarf as your first character and make a scavenger.

Keep all your mats and level it up, the higher level you are the better the drops. People will love you in parties as you get them more items. You receive more items by spoiling monsters.

The cons of a dwarf is that they are slow levelers but at higher levels (scavengers) will make you so much money you can't even imagine.

So level up your scavenger dwarf hit lvl 20 or so, then go to Giran and sell your mats to the highest buyer, once you are there, by soul ore from giran and look for cheap prices on D, C, B, or A crystals (preferably D as they sell very quickly but low margin).

Buy D crystals + necessary soul ore and then start selling DSS at market price, on Hindemith server cost is 10 adena to make and sale is 12adena. So you make 2adena per dss, do this for awhile if you can, or 2-box and have one char permanently selling while you lvl up. Before you know it you'll have money. Once you can support your scavenger with D gear or Top D (check www.l2wh.com for market prices for your server) you may want to lvl up your dwarf, once past 40 the money will start to roll in. Once you have a decent amount of money you may want to try working the market, for example, some people will sell a material for 400a and the person next to him will buy it for 500a, so you can get money that way.

The one thing in L2 is that if you're legit you always always have to worry about money, due to that, i often times avoid teleporting, i'd just teleport from PoD and then SoE to next town (you'll know what i mean when you play).

To give you an example of a scavvy, i partied with a lvl 52 scavvy in Apostate and in about 3-4 hours of time he spoiled over 1000 animal bones (animal bones sell for 800adena a piece on Hindemith AND RISING) Not only did he get the adena from the drops, the seal stones, but he got 1000 extra animal bones. In that 3-4 hours, he probably got in net profit about 1.5-2m profit from animal bones + seal stones.

Of course dwarves are kind of boring if you arent' going the dwarf route, nukers seem to rule L2, so you can't go wrong with one of them. Another route you could go is healer, they don't really need much to level but then again you cannot level alone.

I hope my ramblings have helped, i'mat work and i'm tired lol.

Also if you're wondering my history. I started the game and i leveled from 1-21 a Human warrior. At lvl 21 I took all my savings, a paltry 170k and bought a short spear (24 p.atk). Then i joined a clan that helped me with some D gear and 2 pieces of top D gear. That helped a lot. But a person i met on www.lineage2.com forums helped me out and lent me a +12 els (134 p.atk) when I hit lvl 40 I joined his clan (You could say I was invested in). With 1m in cash from this person i managed to be worth 6m by the time I hit lvl 40. Then I sold the weapon for 23.5m (i know i'm impatient) and at lvl 58 now, i'm worth over 100m from playing the market. So you can be legit, now i just have to see how I can afford A grade. If you want an idea of cost of this game here ti is.

Hindemith server prices and for melee classes using heavy armor (sorry i don't know non-heavy prices)

    Top D armor = 3 - 3.5m (excluding brig boots/gauntlets)
    Top D jewels = .5m
    Top D weapon = 3m

    Top C armor = 7-10m
    Top C jewels = 2m
    Top C weapon = 10-12m

    Top B armor = 16-20m
    Top B jewels = 6.5m
    Top B weapon = 24-28m

    Top A armor = 170-250m
    Top A jewels = perhaps 50m i haven't really checked this one
    Top A weapon = 40-80m
    Top A weapon +4 = 150m

As you can see, ebay makes millions off the commission from L2 players. If I made a scavenger instead of a Gladiator I'd probably be worth 150m, there were so many good deals from lvl 1-58 that i missed becaues I didn't have the money.

mmm you make it seem that its very money oriented...
i am more of a guy who will make a stealthy/critical/chose your target carefully after studing it for a while and hit it where it really hurts

this type of build (that ive done in every single MMO ive played) will let me get into very dangerous areas and hit the exact mob i want that will have a specific loot. hence i like to find/craft my own items for personnal use not sale.

an example that comes to mind. i played swg 2 years ago (before it went bad) and i wanted some 3k buffs that only master docs could get
so i took my master BH turned into a scout ranger, harvested 999 quality ingreditents at specific places at specific times and made my perfect buffs and stim packs. then i remade my char into a BH and i had stims that costs 100k for 1 heal :P

P.S. i realized only then that only a master doctor could use those stims so i had to give them to a doctor giuld mate to heal me only with those.  a buff back comes with 30 charges and for a full set of buffs from a random doctor for buffs that quality would go for 1 mil credits so you can make 30 mil with those packs (in those days 10 mil credits you where a filthy rich bastard that could own a whole city. (give you an estimate of the value, the largest house (guild hall) was worth 700k)

so just to say i like to get/craft my own armour wep wtv.... i dont like to buy them

but thx for the long thread man really helps my choice in the matter

You can play your style as you like but this is the problem. If you make a scavenger.

lvl 1-20 you just spoil basic materials
lvl 20-40 you spoil basic materials + non-grade and D grade items (not top)
lvl 40-52 you spoil basic materials + D, top D, and C grade items (not top)
lvl 52-61 you spoil basic materials + C, Top C, and B grade items (not top)

I'm not sure what's after that.

The scavenger/bounty hutner class is great for crafting what you wnat, but you spoil materials not for the gear that is at your lvl, so if you make thsi char first to support all your other characters then you can play your style perfectly. In my opinion dwarves ar

Essentially, you're going to be buying things for your first character more often than not as you dont' spoil items for your current grade. I have a lvl 58 glad and i made a top B grade Necklace, if you wanted to find the ingredients you'd have to be in a lvl 65 catacomb spoiling it. So don't expect to craft much yourself for your first char. Perhaps for your second char. Also with market prices fluctuating it may be better to sell the materials for a full item individually rather than making it.

    I just saw this comment.

Sure, in Prelude, maybe C1 there were a lot of high lvls camping areas such as TI. However, with the new player populatioin very low, this is just a rare occurrence now.
