Need game control help (sorry I lost my manual)

in Final Fantasy XI

Need game control help (sorry I lost my manual).  I use the PC version.

I cannot interact with NPCs properly.  I have the one Degenhard NPC to get the
bone quest for the D.W. map and I cannot get him to acknowledge me...

Also, I have flint stones for another quest I cannot sell because I don't understand
how.

If there is an online copy of the manual someone knows about, that would be very helpful.

    With Degenhard, use the tab key to target him (just keep hitting it until he's you're target) and then hit enter. He should give the quest. Note that he *doesn't* tell you what he wants, only that it's his "secret" for staying youthful. You can try to figure it out on your own (hint, use the "Quest" button on your main menu and see what the quest is called) or I can message you with what he wants if you like (or you can look it up on any number of FFXI sites). Once you have what he wants, Trade it to him with the same process you use to trade the housewife the flint stones.

    With the woman who does the flint stones quest, target her, hit "-" on your keypad to open up your menu, and select "Trade". Place the flint stones into the trade window that opens up and then hit OK to trade the stones to her.

    Thanks!  The problem is /quest doesn't list the command after I talked with him and hit
    enter (which is what I thought)....  TUrns out that I cannot accept Quests from any
    NPCs right now...

    What I have found out is that the concept of "fame" is different from "city rank".  I likely do not have enough fame for these early quests.

    Yup, you're probably right, Rabia.  Fame is a cool concept, but it can be frustrating sometimes.  You can play for years and not have much fame at all if you spend all your time leveling instead of doing quests.  Accomplish other lower fame quests you're able to in that city and eventually you'll have enough fame so that the NPC learns about you and will give you a quest.

    I thought that might be it, but I looked up Degenhard's quest on ffxi.somepage.com and it said you didn't need any fame for it. I don't think you need fame for the flint stones one either.

    I would have thought these early quests were like that too... but I did level 6 by grinding and I only finished Clededs / Cid's rank quest.  Anyway, I found some other NPCs that will give me quests.  It is good to know that it isn't my keyboard set/etc.
