A New View of the NGE

Hey all,

As some know, I have a "friend" in LA. Recently, they overheard at a party that it was LA that pushed forward the concept of the NGE.

*Disclaimer- This is interpreted by me. /equipMinersGear

What I was told was that LA basiclly told SOE that SWG was not Star Warsy game play and "suggested" (with the License in hand) it needed to be changed sooner than later. SOE came up with several options (including the updated CU that we got, this is why the original CU was scrapped). They launched the CU & RotW, but LA wasn't satisfied and had them push the NGE concept forward. SOE agreed that it was a good "concept", but told LA that it was going to be extreamly difficult to do well with the existing SWG & would create HUGE player issues.

As the CU developed LA & SOE agreed it was getting better, but LA insisted the NGE be implimented. SOE actually resisted a bit. LA also approved the gameplay and path for the NGE. LA basiclly wants the game to be more like thier hit RP/FPS games (I know, we all know that).

The funny thing is that LA has been truely supprised at the higher levels that the NGE was met with such a "reaction". They actually thought this is what the current, former & potential players wanted.

*Bonus- There is something in the works and I'm waiting for more details & confirmation.

This was a response I got from my inquiry if Smed had been fired. They said "I don't know, but I've been waiting to tell you about this conversation I had..." I've been debating sharing this. Flame if you see fit, but I have known my source personally now for a while and trust them.

I don't know what to make of it. I still think SOE has handled the whole thing horribly, but I thought that this was their doing not LA's... This really destroys all hope I had for SWG... /ponder

I've never blamed SOE for the mess.

The owner of the licence ALWAYS pulls the strings.

Supposedly they have a horrible deal (being that they were new to MMO's). I think they were using the next SW MMO as leverage...

Well most of knew that Julio Torres was the masterfart behind rushing the NGE. And we all know Torres is an idiot.

LA or SOE, SWG has been f***ed up. Both company have done wrong. First of all, the licence contract is just bs. SOE makes everything, but LA can force them to do anything.

And never forget, Smedly is the big BOSS of SOE. Noone can fire him for a MMO. They still earn millions from EverQuest...

Well, not totally contrary. LA did want the game to improve, but the nge was the brainchild of $OE and was pushed by $OE, and LA said okey-dokey.

Yes, it is fact that LA thought SWG underperformed and wanted improvement under threat of franchise rights... but the execution differs. LA didn't telll them what specifically to do, or how to do it, they just demanded improvement.

Yes, you are also right that LA didn't expect the backlash.

I wouldn't go that far as board of directors can find Smedly responsible over the mass fallout of subscriptions from SW:G; however, as you pointed out SOE does also have EQ1/2, MxO, and Planetside under their umbrella. Smed can run with the "WoW took all of these people" though it's hard for him to say that about SW:G due to the massive amounts of bad press SOE/LA received over the introduction of the NGE. Also keep in mind that Sony as a whole is suffering decent losses on all avenues not just PS3 and the Online segments so changes are in the wind.

Both SOE and LA look like world class Morons in this mess they BOTH created.

In my opinion, They are in this mess together.

Either way you look at it....

wether it was SOE destoying the classic game or LA wanting them to or just sitting back and not doing anything about it. It dosent matter how it happened. It intentionally happened so they are both to blame.

NGE isn't that bad, if you can handle the l337 and zor crap in Eisley. Once you get out to the Major Questing areas, Musti, Kashyyyk, etc...you run into the Mature players (mostly).

Getting used to the spastic targetting and the new NPC strengths and specials took some time. But my Spy reigns supreme on Intrepid as the JP Base Loot King (6 in one day).

What I wonder is, what do they intend to do about it?

Clearly, if the goal was to grow SWG or "make it better" NGE has been a miserable failure, with fewer players than ever and more anger at LEC and SOE than ever...

Drastic changes like this should have been done on the sequel, and anyone in game design should have known it.

It's not about NGE, NGE is fine.

It's about the fact that realization of NGE is crap.

Simply and bluntly put. It's a B-grade game, and even those tend to at least play better, if they don't have the polish to go with it.

There's a difference between CS:S point-and-click action combat and whack-a-mole point-and-click action combat.

And at this point, most people would prefer to play whack-a-mole.

First off in BUSINESS the person that is responsible is the Leader -- overall , plain and simple.

So, we need to find out who that is exactly.

NOW THEN, this does not let the Devs off the hook, as they direct him as to what they thing and or DO.

FYI In business, if I fuck up and launch a error in our website or make a mistake that 1000 people see, sure I catch Hell from my boss and sure I fry---

BUT as the the old saying goes "SHIT rolls downhill"... this holds true to this day. (At least in most normal businesses)...lol

At SOE the sky could be pink the sun could be a marshmellow and the ground could be made of jello for them.

Crap to this day I think smugglers really don't smuggle and its all a lie.

HEY listen WACKAMOLE IS FUN do not ever use this game and SWG together --

Heck, my 7 and 8 year old LOVE Wackamole, my son now thinks SWG pretty much is boring. He still loves BF2 though.

He really liked watching the pets and animals in the game prior with old SWG -- now its pointless.
